15.01.2022 Eye surgery as an alternative to spectacles for people in Brisbane aged over 50. Modern eye surgery allows people aged 50 and over to dramatically reduce their need for glasses. "Refractive lens exchange" allows the natural lens of the eye to be replaced with an artificial lens implant with the ability to act as glasses do. This usually allows an individual to be free of glasses for the vast majority of daily activities. After refractive lens exchange, 80% of people no lon...ger require glasses at all while 20% of people require glasses only for reading very small print or while driving at night. Brisbane Eye Surgeon Dr Cameron McLintock specialises in refractive lens exchange. Learn more at https://drcameronmclintock.com.au/refractive-surgery/

12.01.2022 What is a cataract? A cataract occurs when the eye’s lens, which is normally clear, become opaque. This lens is located inside the eye behind the pupil. Cataract causes blurred vision by blocking light as it travels through the eye. How is cataract treated? ... The only proven treatment for cataract is surgery. Through micro incisions the lens is removed and a new clear lens implant is inserted into the eye, restoring clear vision. 11.01.2022 What is Refractive Eye Surgery? Refractive Eye Surgery refers to eye surgery performed to correct focusing errors of the eyes (refractive errors) such as myopia (short-sightedness), hyperopia (long sightedness) or astigmatism. There are 2 main categories of refractive surgery. The first type is laser refractive surgery such as LASIK or Photorefractive Keratectomy (also known as surface LASIK). In laser refractive surgery, a highly precise laser known as an excimer laser... is applied to the cornea (the clear focusing window at the front of the eye) to improve the way light is focused by the eye, resulting in improved vision without glasses or contact lenses. The second main type of refractive surgery is lens-based refractive surgery. In lens-based refractive surgery, the eyes’ natural lens can be removed and replaced with a new artificial lens which improves the focusing ability of the eye. Alternatively, the eye’s natural lens is left in place and a new artificial lens is planted on top of the natural lens to correct the eye’s refractive error.
