17.01.2022 I know I talk a lot about chronic stress and the vagus nerve... but there are other things we need to consider too. The bacterial balance in your gut has an important effect on your vagus nerve. Remember, the vagus has nerves that go from the brain to the gut, and also nerves that go from the gut to the brain. So part of the role of the vagus nerve is to kind of sense what is happening in the organs of the body, and let the brain know. One of the ways it does this is by sens...ing whether the gut is inflamed, and how the by-products of microbiome activity are affecting the body. It is common for people to report big changes in their stress resilience, mental health and general energy, when their gut has been assessed and worked through. The vagus is also involved in the internal cleansing mechanisms we all have in our gut, so the stronger your vagal tone, the less likely you are to get an imbalanced microbiome in the first place. So if you’ve got any kind of gut issues, don’t forget about your vagus nerve!

I demonstrated to him how playing games on his iPad reduces frontal lobe activity (which we... need to be human) and creates more imbalances in the brain. Notice in the second video his brain has increased slow wave activity in his frontal lobes - more right than left - after playing games on his iPad. Slow wave activity here = weaker brain function. Without following one particular black and white paradigm.. instead, you can read the research, and make your own mind up. I found there was so much judgement between mothers on how they introduced food to their babies! It honestly doesn't have to be that way. 03.01.2022 I don't love dietary labels to be honest, as I find the labels themselves pretty restrictive. However I see a lot of people following a paleo diet, but feeling worse on it! Paleo diets are generally low in inflammation and high in wholefoods, but you can still eat those foods in a way that isn't right for your body. Come take a read and see why!

02.01.2022 A little snapshot of my clinic space But what I really want to draw your eye to is the patch on my hand With all this talk about the vagus nerve, stress, and how to help your nervous system cope better, I thought I would introduce you to these babies ... I mostly use them in practice (and a lot on myself and my family), so I figure if it’s good enough for my practice community, I should share it with my instagram community! 02.01.2022 Prime example of why HRV testing can be so important. This person presented with an inability to truly slow down, no matter the amount of meditation, mindfulness or focus on slowing down. There were moments during the HRV where she was able to get into ‘green’, but every time she did, she did something within her body to push herself back to ‘red’. This is a person who is uncomfortable and unfamiliar being in a coherent, parasympathetic state. No wonder she can’t slow down We will be working together over the next few months and I will share her HRV results as we go along. #heartratevariability #heartmath
