23.01.2022 NEW BOOK ALERT bit.ly/Healing_Lives We are thrilled to announce the publication of a remarkable new book HEALING LIVES by award-winning journalist Sue Williams. This is the untold tale of MAMITU GASHE, the protge of Dr Catherine Hamlin, and the inspiring decades-long friendship between these two formidable women. In 1962, 14 year-old Mamitu Gashe arrived in Addis Ababa seeking the aid of Drs Reg and Catherine Hamlin. Mamitu was horrifically injured during chil...dbirth in her mountain village in remote Ethiopia. Catherine and Reg saved her, and in return, Mamitu dedicated her life to their mission - helping women with fistula. Under the Hamlins guidance, Mamitu went from mopping floors and comforting fellow patients, to becoming one of the most acclaimed fistula surgeons in the world, despite never having had a days schooling. Feel moved and inspired by this story of two incredible women, an unlikely friendship, and a united mission to save the lives of over 60,000 of the poorest women on Earth. Healing Lives will be available on October 13 - but you can pre-order your copy of this unmissable story today! bit.ly/Healing_Lives Proceeds from the sale of this book support the life-changing work of Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia to treat and prevent childbirth injuries. #HealingLives #EradicatingFistulaForever

To... help ensure they dont, she decided to leave a gift to the foundation in her Will. 07.01.2022 Every woman deserves access to quality maternal healthcare - yet 70% of women in Ethiopia do not have access to a qualified medical professional during their pregnancy and labour. With access to appropriate medical care, the likelihood of a woman in labour suffering an obstetric fistula injury reduces, massively. Dr Catherine Hamlin believed that every woman should be able to safely give birth, which is why she established the Hamlin College of Midwives in 2007. High-perfo...rming students from rural areas are provided full scholarships as they gain the Bachelors of Science (Midwifery). To date, 170 Hamlin Midwives have graduated from the College. After graduating, the midwives return to their communities to provide trusted and high quality care for pregnant women. 07.01.2022 Today is World Humanitarian Day, a day to recognise those who go above and beyond to help others, often in the face of danger and adversity. The year that the Hamlins built the Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital, 1974, was the same year that an uprising in Ethiopia brought an end to imperial rule. What followed was a period known as the Red Terror that saw up to 500,000 people killed. It was a time of constant fear. Despite the danger, Drs Catherine and Reg Hamlin kept the hospita...l open. Today more than 60,000 Ethiopian women have had their obstetric fistula injuries treated at Hamlin. Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia continues to be the reference organisation and leader in the fight to eradicate fistula around the world. Catherine and Reg Hamlin dedicated their lives to helping the women of Ethiopia. And today, like every day, we would like to thank them.
