21.01.2022 Last week I had a virtual sit-down and chat with David Keir for his podcast. It was relatively off-the-cuff, but luckily David is a very experienced interviewer and it was very easy to talk to him. There were some moments where I got to reflect on what's been happening in my head space the past few months with the COVID pandemic, and of course moments where we discussed some of my favourite topics in dentistry!

20.01.2022 An informative post for my dentist friends, a little demonstration of how digital technology can help with the little clinical conundrums we sometimes face

13.01.2022 Conservative restorative management of a periodontal defect

12.01.2022 There was inadequate space for an implant due to angulation of the 21, so a conventional resin-bonded bridge was placed. A Class IV composite resin was used to correct the incisal edge of the 21

12.01.2022 Management of a Discoloured Single Central Incisor This tooth was originally damaged in an accident and subsequently root treated and restored with a resin restoration. This was managed by some internal bleaching followed by replacing the old restoration with a layered composite resin restoration.

11.01.2022 Rehabilitation of a failing dentition with a fixed implant supported prosthesis and a conventional full denture

09.01.2022 Veneers with a Digital Twist This young lady was referred to me by her orthodontic / surgical team while in the middle of her treatment. She had already undergone some orthognathic surgery and alignment to correct her underlying malocclusion, so it was now up to me to help her smile properly again, by reversing the wear that had occurred on her teeth. Digital smile design software (3Shape) was used to help plan her veneers, and a Trios 3 intraoral scanner was used to capture the prepared teeth. This was sent to technician Mr Bradley Grobler (Oral Dynamics, NZ) who fabricated 6 ceramic veneers (LiSi Press), which were bonded in under rubber dam isolation

08.01.2022 Just a small photographic exercise, not an attempt at any quantifiable measure of light transmission.

07.01.2022 Intrinsically discoloured teeth can be challenging to restore. Here are some of my thoughts regarding this fairly common situation, and one way of managing them.

05.01.2022 What came first, the crack or the ortho band? If the crack came first, then the lesson is we should properly assess the tooth before we commit to endodontic therapy and restoration. If the crack came after the ortho band went on, then the question is, how long after endodontic treatment do we wait before we place our definitive restoration, and would it have prevented the crack in the first place???

05.01.2022 Final preparations for the next lecture. Looking forward to sharing some knowledge with some great people and friends the next three days!
