06.01.2022 Heritage listed 100 Years old "Lord of the Nations Christian Church"!! DR Consulting teamed up with Prompt Roofing in assessing the structural adequacy of existing structure for roof replacement from asbestos to metal sheeting. Brief History of the Iconic Church..... Built in 1914, a major project of the time, the building was the home of the Bayswater Road Board (City of Bayswater Council) until 1983. Shortly after the hall was completed, moving pictures came on to the scene and for many years, the hall also served as the local picture theatre with alterations being made from time to time to improve acoustics or seating and to install equipment for talkies (pictures with sound!) In the 1950's the original hall was added to with a Cubist style extension, completely changing the frontage appearance of the building. When the Shire's administration moved to the present Council Chambers in Broun Avenue in the 1980's, the Hall was acquired by a Church. It's current day occupier is the Lord of the Nations Christian Church. The building is located on Slade Street, which itself is quite historically interesting. From one end of the street to the other it has some fine examples of buildings from the early days through to the 1950's. At the far end of Slade Street will be found an olive tree that was planted by one of the early settlers and which was the location of church services at the time, with attendees enjoying the shade of the olive tree. Although the original authenticity of the building was compromised by additions and changes, it is among several of the most socially important buildings in the district. It is now a heritage listed building. DR Consulting and Prompt Roofing have completed quite a few heritage listed Church projects in Perth. It is always a privilege to assist the Churches to navigate the administration requirements and delicate works needed to undertake a project of this nature. It is also really interesting to delve into the archives to dig up the stories behind the historical buildings themselves. We hope you enjoy hearing about them too.
