14.01.2022 The Australian Dental Association (ADA) has issued guidelines regarding appropriate practice during the COVID-19 pandemic. The latest recommendation is implementation of Level 3 Restrictions. Based on Level 3 Restriction guidelines, the treatment we can provide in our practice is limited, effective immediately. As business owners, this week has challenged us beyond anything we have experienced before. 11.01.2022 CHEMICAL PEELS What is Glycolic Acid (AHA)? It is a natural constituent of sugar cane and normalises the skins exfoliation process by refining the appearance of pore size and smoothing the look of fine lines. Our Glycolic Acid Skin Renewal Peel offers four concentrations (20%, 35%, 50%, 70%). The various concentrations are predictable and are able to be combined with other cosmetic procedures, such as skin needling and laser facial rejuvenation. Our chemical peels require no down time and a simple 30 minute procedure.

06.01.2022 HEALTHY, STRONG TEETH The health of your teeth and gums reflects the health of your entire body. A good oral hygiene routine and daily flossing is a great way to keep teeth healthy, however this is just the start. True oral hygiene begins with proper nutrition and diet. We have put together 6 ways you can naturally strengthen your teeth in order to prevent future cavities and decay. 1. Limit snacking.... Snacking on carbs throughout the day provides the bacteria in our mouths with a consistent supply of food. Well fed bacteria will produce more acid which in turn weakens tooth enamel. It is also a good idea to give our digestive systems time to rest and rejuvenate. 2. Eat mineral rich foods. Teeth are porous in nature and they can gain or lose beneficial minerals; the key is to ensure they receive more than they lose. This process is called remineralisation. Brushing and flossing teeth helps to remove plaque; however, it does not aid or inhibit remineralisation so you need to eat mineral rich foods to aid this process. Mineral rich foods such as bone broth, eggs, organic and grass fed meats and poultry, dark leafy greens such as broccoli, kale, spinach and mushrooms, cheese (especially soft cheeses) and Himalayan salt. 3. Remove refined sugar from your diet. Sugar is the main food source for bacteria that produce harmful acid on our teeth. Eliminating refined sugar from your diet will help to drastically reduce bacteria food supply. In turn, this will protect your teeth from the damaging acid bacteria produce. 4. Clean your tongue. Keeping your tongue clean by brushing it well during your oral hygiene routine is a great way to reduce bacteria. Youll also notice fresher breath! 5. Improve your digestion for greater nutrient absorption. If your gut heath is not working optimally, it can hinder the absorption of minerals and nutrients. You may be eating the correct foods but if they are not properly absorbed, remineralisation of your teeth can not occur. Try eating healthy fats with each meal to increase absorption of Vitamins A, D, E and K. As well, probiotic rich foods such as sauerkraut, kimchi, yoghurt, pickles or kombucha. 6. Stay hydrated. Drinking water helps to flush away food debris and bacteria from your mouth and gums. It also helps to dilute harmful acid caused by bacteria in the mouth. Dry mouth can put your teeth at risk of tooth decay and drinking water helps to promote saliva production which keeps teeth strong by washing them with beneficial minerals.

05.01.2022 INFECTION CONTROL At Dr Daniel Tan & Associates, we treat infection control and your safety very seriously. Our purpose built sterilization room is staffed each shift with an appropriately trained and dedicated personnel. All reusable instruments are cleaned and then sterilised in accordance with current Australian Standards and short cuts are never taken. Our state of the art equipments are TGA approved and are tested, calibrated and maintained by fully qualified service per...sonnel on a regular base. Each sterilisation cycle is monitored to ensure that sterilisation parameters are met. All critical instruments are individually wrapped or packed, maintaining sterility until the package is opened for use on a specific patient. No item is released for use until it has been checked for the integrity of its outer wrap, seals, labelling, and colour of the chemical indicator. Our point of difference is: we can track where an item is at any given point, trace where and when it was used and which patient it was used on within any particular time frame. This means all packaged items are bar-coded before sterilisation. The items are scanned in and out of each steriliser and eventually scanned into a patients individual file. If you have any questions about infection control at our practice, please do not hesitate to ask one of our team members next time you visit us.

05.01.2022 CHROMOTHERAPY Our Sunlighten Infrared Sauna is now fitted with Chromotherapy lighting. Why? Our bodies need the suns lighting to live. And that light can actually be broken down into a seven colour spectrum. An imbalance of any of those colours can manifest itself in physical and mental symptoms. Chromotherapy is the science of using colours to adjust body vibrations to frequencies that result in health and harmony. Perfectly captured by @nickhansonvisuals

05.01.2022 KOMBUCHA AND TEETH Kombucha is the wellness drink of the moment, and for good reason. The fermented tea is rich in probiotics and prebiotics, which help increase the good bacteria in the gut, improving digestion and overall health. But if you really love kombucha, you need to take extra care of your teeth. Thanks to the high levels of acidity found in Kombucha (which is necessary for the bacteria in the drink to survive), it can contribute to the decay of healthy teeth. ...In fact, it is just as acidic as your average glass of soft drink and can upset the delicate PH balance of saliva, making the mouth a nice environment for harmful bacteria to grow. The acidity in Kombucha can also break down the enamel in your teeth. Wash your mouth out with water after drinking Kombucha and always wait a minimum of 30 minutes to brush your teeth post kombucha drinking. This will allow the enamel to re-harden and prevent further damage.

04.01.2022 BYE BYE ROSIE We are super sad to let you all know that Rosie is leaving us for sunny Queensland. Having worked with Dan for ten years, Rosie has built incredible relationships with our patients and she will be missed by so many. She is a very much loved member of our team and its going to take a while to adjust to not having her around (or to do the mid morning coffee run ). We wish Rosie all of the love and luck in the world as she begins a new journey.. for those that know Nat, you will know she is quite happy to have a new excuse for a holiday! We welcome all of our patients to drop in and see Rosie for a coffee and a chat during her last month of work.

03.01.2022 SLEEP Sleep and Dentistry.. how is it related? The oral cavity is part of your bodys airways, so dentists can identify signs of sleeping disorders. We inspect teeth for tooth wear and cracking, which can be a sign of nocturnal grinding. We inspect the soft tissues for any trauma or burns which can show signs of silent reflux during sleep, and we look at the back of the throat; the airway including the soft palate and tonsils, because sometimes these are causing airway bl...ockage or restriction. Creating a good night time regime can improve our quality of sleep: avoid food 2 hours before bed, be careful with how much and when you are consuming caffeine, get enough physical activity through the day, try not to stress, (stress is a response to how we react to something), and nutrition is important because if we do not feed it the minerals and vitamins required, certain process cannot occur. Those important processes allow us to relax, (production of Serotonin/the happy hormone), and allow us to get to sleep (melatonin, the sleep hormone). In particular a lack of B vitamins, Zinc or Magnesium, due to diet can affect our quality of sleep. As a holistic first step at @drdanieltanandassociates we recommend a high quality Magnesium spray 30 minutes before bed to optimise your sleep. Its simple. Spray 2-6 spritzed on to your belly or feet and rub in. by @lusyproductions
