25.01.2022 #bargearse This might be a bit dated but the late show team in 1992 have dubbed the 1976 ‘Buey’ cop show and its brilliant Tony Martin, Rob Sitch and Judith Lacey nail this to the comedy wall !!! Watch it to the end for the twist.... It’s Covid therapy See more

25.01.2022 #photo for the waiting room This arrived today from Germany where it was printed. It’s photo of Mt Cook (3724m) I saw in Queenstown airport by Talman Madsen. www.talmanmadsen.com, a fantastic NZ photographer. I tracked him down and he provided the wonderful photos of NZ roads in my textbook, ‘The roadmap to fertility’ Rockpool Publishers.... And I finally got that photo of Mt Cook that I was so impressed by as a 1.8x0.8m print. Come in and take a look, it’s an absolutely spectacularly awesome photograph See more

24.01.2022 # Dr David Greening MBChB Otago I graduated today 13th December way back in Dunedin NZ last century 1986 in fact. It was an amazing day, walking on stage to get my degree. My Mum & Dad came and my girl friend Sian. I married her a year later and we’re still together another good life decision. I really enjoyed my graduation and it been a long journey ever since and I have had a fascinating career with lots more to come, hopefully. I haven’t really considered retirement.... It’s a privilege to be a doctor, I teach med students that because it’s what I believe. I really enjoy my work, meeting patients, diagnosing their problems and helping them. It is seriously fulfilling. Funny enough I found 3 diaries I kept which survived the house fire 1981, 1984 and 1985. Don’t know why. 1981 I’ve just finished and we did first year university to get into med school. It’s interesting reading your own words almost 40 years later. David P.S Beards were in then. 20.01.2022 #Tathra holidays Having some lovely times in Tathra. Our cottage is just the same as the other 4-5 times we’ve stayed here over the last 14-15 years. 100+ year old cottage in Kalaru just out of Tathra on 1 acre. We’ve caught our dinner a few times and enjoyed the serenity of fishing and kids love it like their Dad and his Dad. Glorious patch of weather now and my biking legs have that mild satisfying ache of regular rides both road and MTB most mornings (even in the r...ain! The tricks a waterproof cap with big peak to keep the rain out of your eyes under the helmet!) 4 days to go and as history has taught me my pregnant patients somehow always hang on till I get back (secret women business- one holidays 1 delivered when I was away then 11 waited till I arrived back so my first 48hrs back was crazy lol) See you all Monday hopefully with my batteries fully charged for a fabulous 2021. Looking forward to it. David See more

18.01.2022 #GENE EDITING Despite what you may read this new technology is being critically reviewed and regulated at the highest authorities. Genes are complex, with complex interactions and relationships. My wonderful wife Sian, set up the cancer genetics counseling service here in the Illawarra 14 years ago and genes are a common topic in our home. If I wasn’t a reproductive doctor I think medical geneticist would be another serious option. Most of you know I have a Masters in Bioeth...ics (Monash) and a great description is ‘Bioethics is the understanding of the moral life’. How do we come to our understanding of what’s right and wrong? Genetics has complexity that is simply astounding (pun intended) It’s absolutely vital we think clearly both scientifically and ethically about what we do with technologies to do with genes. And I’ve just applied for a position on the Illawarra/Shoalhaven health district ethics committee. Keep you posted if I get selected. I think it would be interesting to be part of. David See more

17.01.2022 #movember Few shots from NZ of Merv and Jim Greening before they got older and got prostate cancer. Merv didn’t survive it, my Dad has. Both loved the high country and rivers of New Zealand. ... My Dads had his mo nearly 70 years. David See more

17.01.2022 #movember It’s almost over. We’ve raised $549 this year and nearly $4000 over the 7 years. My uncle Merv died of it. Visiting him for the last ever time in Christchurch and saying Goodbye was a hard thing to do. My Dad’s had it but going ok.... Depression and suicide are part of the causes Movember targets as well. All are good targets. David See more

17.01.2022 Another collection of beautiful photos, which have been sent in by our patients, of their precious moments, soon after delivery. Thank you so much for allowing us to share these on our Facebook page!

16.01.2022 #complex laparoscopic surgery This is Associate Professor Michael Cooper OAM who recently came down to do some operating with me. Together we did 4 lists, 14 complex cases mostly laparoscopic hysterectomies and some others. It’s called a mentor program and allows me to up-skill with a world class surgeon which Michael is. Our college, RANZCOG, accredited the training method or else I have to attend training courses for a week. I prefer mentors. Dr Geoff Reid used to attend m...y operating list at FIGTREE private hospital for many years, another brilliant surgeon. It was amazing for me to have him there. Still a good friend in retirement. The bottom photo is me and my usual assistant Margaret doing a 3D laparoscopic hysterectomy. Michael got to try it here for the first time and enjoyed it. I’ve been fortunate through my career to have some excellent colleagues as mentors and Michael is absolutely top shelf. David See more

15.01.2022 #Roger- the lipoma I was doing my patients caesarean on Tuesday and we’d planned to remove a lump on her tummy called a lipoma. These are benign fat lumps. So I excised the old caesarean scar, tidying it up as this was her 4th caesarean, then separately excised the lipoma which was about 8cm. We named it ‘Roger’ for no apparent reason I started to train as a surgeon before having second thoughts and finding my way (Thursday island, RFDS, Asia etc) a few years later into ob...stetrics & gynaecology. That surgical training included 6 months of plastic surgery. It comes in useful all the time as it has fantastic techiques for excellent cosmetic results. I’ve even done some tummy tucks as part of caesareans! Thought you might find this interesting See more

14.01.2022 #Merry Christmas from my team My staff and I at our Christmas high tea at Ravensthorpe today. Our 16th staff end of year celebration. My Anaesthetist Dr Ravi Walpitagama and my surgical assistant for complex laparoscopic cases Dr Bob McCurdie joined us. Both are excellent colleagues and friends. My other surgical assistant Margaret Readon and nurse Kaye Middleton unfortunately couldn’t be with us.... I’ve been incredibly blessed to be surrounded by wonderful staff. They are a pleasure to work with. Merry Christmas everyone from my practice and team. Have a safe holidays and we’ll see some of you in 2021. See more

13.01.2022 Well the first rugby test finally happened and it was a cracker. The Wallabies & All Blacks played a fantastic match. Big fan of rugby and of our TFC. ( I was down doing some research work). Eden park Auckland test next week and I’m sure virtually all my patients (husbands?) will be watching lol! (The ABs last lost there in 1994, having won 40 tests straight)

09.01.2022 A huge thank you to Dr. Greening and he’s fantastic team! I have been under his care for approximately six years for a range of things. Over the past 4 years he has managed my two pregnancies and delivered my two babies. I can’t thank David and his team enough. His extensive experience and care throughout both pregnancies made me know I was in the best hands possible and his quirky sense of humour, colourful ties and interesting convos always made appointments enjoyable! The... nurses and office ladies at his rooms are so kind, caring and supportive and go above and beyond for patients. With my latest birth 7 weeks ago, David kept me well informed and at ease with concerns around COVID19, as well as managed some unexpected post partum issues. David has delivered our 2 little angels and we cannot thank him enough. We highly recommend him and his wonderful team! See more

09.01.2022 #ethics committee - I got selected FYI: I got interviewed for the HREC - Human Research Ethics Committee for the University of Wollongong (UOW) & Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District ( UOW/ISLHD)! And got offered a position if I find the first committee meeting fits with me in February. I already have a Bioethics Masters from Monash University gained mostly on the commute by train to Sydney 2002/3. ... Bioethics is ‘the understanding of the moral life’ which means how do we decide what is right and wrong. It’s fascinating and vital. I’m looking forward to it in 2021. David See more

08.01.2022 # HOLIDAYS I’m going on holiday tomorrow with my lovely family and I won’t be back for 2 weeks! If you need to get hold of me; you CAN’T . I turn my phone off and don’t use it. It has been on now for 12 months continuously so deserves a rest like me. This year I’ve had almost no days officially off except the October long weekend. Don’t worry, as always there’s cover. Not JGW (Dr Walton) who refused to come out of retirement but another doctor will look after my patient...s, Dr Simon Winder for privates and Dr Joe McCosker for my privates in public. I feel a bit like this figtree I just transplanted (to put a garden shed in the space), tired, stressed and withered but I’ll bounce back after 2 weeks of biking, fishing, eating, reading, resting, more reading and so on. Yay Happy new year . P.S My fantastic team of admin staff and midwives will keep the place running while I’m away (I’m informed ) See more

08.01.2022 Merry Christmas To all my lovely staff, our patients, colleagues and friends, a very merry Christmas I hope this day is a wonderful one for you all after a unique and at times difficult year. As a Christian it’s a very special day and has great meaning. ... May you and your families and relatives enjoy this time together. To new parents may it be the start of many Christmas’s together. It’s kids that add the excitement factor. If times are tough for you remember today is still special and things will almost definitely get better. Now to spend time with my lovely family and in a week take a very much needed (I’ve aged this year heaps ) holiday God bless. David

08.01.2022 Thanks- your email of pictures of your babies are literally pouring in. It’s fantastic. That’s me again in this photo thanking you! (the youngest) We’ll compilate them and have a post on my Facebook before Christmas Keep them coming in and please share. Christmas is about many wonderful things and families are up there

07.01.2022 # new chickens Thanks to John the farmer we have 5 new mature chickens already. They’re very keen to escape and even with a clipped wing seem to to be able to get up on the fence! Automatic door arrived this morning so will open and shut in case I forgot to. The local won’t forget to check our pen! 2 eggs so far and once they’ve settled in hopefully they lay as good as the previous ones RIP

07.01.2022 #RFDS days as a flying doctor Way back in NZ I started training in surgery, then changed to O & G but couldn’t be sure so stopped and took a few years off doing many other jobs before returning to train in Melbourne. I spent 2 years as a flying doctor with the RFDS in Broken Hill NSW. It was the best 2 years. The work was fascinating, challenging and exciting. I saw lots of australia from the air, lots of patients, and worked in a wonderful team. Broken Hill was such an... classic outback town. Friendly and interesting. My family enjoyed it. Hot but we coped in summer. One day at the huge Moomba gas plant in the strezleki desert it was 53C! The staff were great, brilliant pilots and nurses and we had some hair-raising times. I even delivered a baby in a plane! And I filled in as the locum obstetrician at the base hospital between specialists and it was a visiting professor Charles Barbaro who convinced me to go back and train again in O & G in Melbourne. By then my wife’s family had moved there. 2 wonderful years After the RFDS we spent a year in Asia as I was an international flying doctor with AEA before settling down in Melbourne. Another story. 06.01.2022 Caught it, ate it! Beer battered fresh flathead fish was perfect. I’d hooked 2 fish at once! 2 hr mountain bike ride this morning was probably best ride in ages. Getting fitter which really helps. Holidays are great for recharging the batteries, seeing nature, family and relaxing.

06.01.2022 #movember2020 - consider contributing This year I’ll be once again supporting Movember. My uncle died of it and my Dads had it but going well. I’ve know the pain of someone committing suicide as well. And depression can happen to anyone. Be it men or post natal mothers.... This is a GREAT cause. I’d love to break my practices record set 2007. If you want to support Movember follow the link. Thanks David

04.01.2022 #success - watch the video Kates journey continued today as I scanned her IVF pregnancy and we saw and heard the heartbeat She’ll be coming to me for antenatal care. Looking forward to ‘landing the plane’. My analogy to infertility, to get on the pregnancy plane, fly the trip and safely land.

04.01.2022 #garden For Father’s Day I got a sign that one of my kids got made for my garden. I spend a lot of time in it and it’s wonderful therapy. I potter away and the trellis will grow climbing roses. I thoroughly recommend a garden.

03.01.2022 This an old favorite movie ‘So I married an axe murderer’ Mike Myers 1993. Stuart (Mike Myers) marries Harriet whose last 3 husbands have died in unexplained circumstances. Stuart’s best friend is Tony (Anthony Lapaglia an Australian actor) a detective who puts 2 & 2 together when Stuart and Harriet are on their honeymoon. He hires a plane to reach the resort to warn Stuart. The line about ‘time’ is often quoted at me as I often have no idea of ‘time’. ... I guess the meaning of ‘waiting room’ and ‘ patient’ are because doctors are all similar ( actually’patient’ means ‘one who suffers’ ) Anyway I love the movie and the line! See more

03.01.2022 # kangaroo valley FYI we were in a villa on the golf course. Mostly it rained but the sun came out for a bit. Lovely place.

03.01.2022 #4 Yorkshiremen - Monty Python - WATCH IT! Who’d have thought I’d find this famous sketch! Perfect for Covid times. When we retell of these days we should apply the rules of the Monty Python team and exaggerate wildly And the youth still won’t believe you P.S Luxury was the phrase used by others if you complained. Bring it back I say

02.01.2022 For those of you who know Dr Greening well, he has many facts and figures stored in his memory and is always "thinking outside the square", or should I say, never stops thinking or joking! I caught him at reception today and captured him thinking. Recently, I messaged him to let him know that he had a later start for consulting the following morning. I added that he could have a "sleep in". A reply came back directly, saying "sleep is wasted life".

02.01.2022 As you may all remember, Dr Greening created a post recently, asking our patients to send photos through of their "little miracles" that he has brought into the world. The response has been overwhelming and we will be aiming to post as many of these as possible over the coming weeks. Thank you so much for taking the time to send these through; Dr. Greening's staff, Sheree, Wendy & Heather and our lovely midwives, Kristen & Liz, have thoroughly enjoyed looking through these and remembering some very happy moments with you all! Pictured below is Bec with her beautiful boy, Marcus

02.01.2022 #2020 Happy New Year all To all my patients, staff, friends and family I hope you all look forward to a better 2021 It’s been a busy difficult year from fires to Covid. Through it all my old friends and colleagues were there and my wonderful staff both in my rooms and in the hospitals and IVF unit. We all weathered the stormy year.... Have a safe holidays and I look forward to next year and all it has to bring. Prof G (Hon clin A/Prof - UOW)

01.01.2022 # A dream come true Baby Harlie took 18 years to arrive for Kylie and Paul. 18 long years of trying, multiple failed IVF then a wee miracle happened and they did it themselves She’s here and this is her Mum & Dads postnatal visit after a good pregnancy. Yay

01.01.2022 # guilty Labrador This is Nutmeg our Labrador (aged 2). With the collective guilty evidence of her obsession with food! She’s a thief who steals anything not nailed down or below 1.5m! But then she’s leaves the wrappings for Detective David to find. Her jaws are like steel and whole roast chickens can be eaten in <1 minute That said, she’s bred to be like this and we her to bits (mostly).
