25.01.2022 This weekend I presented a case report at the ANZ Cornea Society Meeting in Sydney. The patient was referred with extensive epithelial ingrowth 15 years after LASIK. Treatment with YAG laser in the office, rather than further surgery, resulted in significantly improved quality of vision and symptoms.

21.01.2022 It was an honour to give a talk at the recent International #Cornea & Contact Lens Congress 2017 in Sydney. I spoke about #keratoconus management and referral for corneal collagen cross-linking #CXL, ring segments (eg Kerarings) & topographic guided laser treatment.

21.01.2022 I went on Richard Glovers radio show on ABC Sydney to talk about #eye damage from looking at the the eclipse (solar retinopathy) & also about UV protection for the eyes. Listen to the radio segment here: http://www.abc.net.au/r/sydney/programs/drive/drive/8811222 Tuesday 22 August, segment starts at 1:20:25

16.01.2022 #Cataract #surgery shown to be associated with a lower risk of dying in a large cohort of women over age 65. https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/319883.php

16.01.2022 Why wear UV-blocking wraparound #sunglasses from childhood? To prevent ocular surface tumours like this: a high grade dysplasia (squamous cell carcinoma in situ). #publichealth http://1140.1180.captiv8online.com/animat//uv-protection/

16.01.2022 I went on the radio with Dr Brad McKay on 2UE; we talked about diabetic retinopathy and an interesting case of a patient who was found to have 27 contact lenses stuck in her eye. The episode is July 16, listen in at 1:16:00. https://www.talkinglifestyle.com.au/Show/healthy-living/

15.01.2022 It was great fun talking to The Donaldson Sisters about #cataracts and #cataract #surgery on Radio 2UE @talklifestyleau Listen to the radio segment here: https://www.agedcare101.com.au//dr-daya-sharma-eye-laser-/... #vision #eyes #ophthalmology

13.01.2022 Dr Daya Sharma has a peer-reviewed scientific publication in the Journal of Refractive Surgery this month. The paper describes a four-stage surgical procedure to rehabilitate and stabilise vision in a case series of 11 eyes of 7 patients with #keratoconus. All of the patients had poor vision with glasses and good vision with hard contact lenses, but were unable to tolerate the lenses. The patients underwent staged surgery with: 1) Keraring implantation 2) corneal collagen cro...ss-linking 3) toric phakic IOL and then 4) topographic-guided PRK All of the patients in this series had a significant improvement in vision and refraction with the final visual result being similar to the vision with hard contact lenses.

12.01.2022 UV protection for the eyes is extremely important from childhood onwards to protect against various eye diseases. Use wraparound UV-blocking sunglasses and a hat. Read about one of my patients who needed surgery for a tumour on the surface of the eye, which was due to UV damage from the sun.

12.01.2022 We are delighted to announce that the NSW government has recently amended legislation to restrict eye ball tattooing so that only medical practitioners are perm...itted to conduct this procedure in NSW. Thanks to Dr Daya Sharma and other NSW RANZCO Fellows for spearheading this important campaign. See more

11.01.2022 Dr Daya Sharma is quoted in this article calling for a ban on the practice of "eyeball tattooing". Ophthalmologists call for a ban on eyeball tattooing http://www.nzherald.co.nz/lifestyle/news/article.cfm #eyeballtattoo #publichealth via @nzherald

09.01.2022 An honour to be invited to speak at the Indian Society of #Cornea and Keratorefractive Surgeons (ISCKRS) Meeting in Delhi. Im speaking about topography-guided #laser & mapping the posterior cornea for #cataract & #refractive procedures. My first time visiting Delhi since 86.

08.01.2022 Important message from RANZCO in the Sydney Morning Herald about the need for children to protect their eyes from UV damage. They should be wearing a hat and wraparound sunglasses.

07.01.2022 This is a great reminder to wear UV-blocking, wrap-around #sunglasses to protect your #eyes from diseases like #pterygium (surfers eye), #cataract, and #cancer of the eyelids and surface of the eye. Children should be wearing sunglasses too.

07.01.2022 Be sure to protect your eyes!! #swoopingseason #protectyoureyes

05.01.2022 Public Service Announcement: dont use aged (or fresh) urine eye drops. There is a small risk of self-inoculation with gonorrhoea which can cause a rapidly progressive and destructive eye infection. Urine may be free and natural, but it is not a good treatment for the eye. Why should eye specialists even need to talk about this?... 01.01.2022 Cosmetic iris implant surgery to change #eye colour is dangerous - there is a high risk of permanent vision loss. Dont risk it.
