02.01.2022 EGG FREEZING: SOMETHING TO CONSIDER... Women have limited reproductive potential and are having children later due to a variety of reasons (medical, education, travel, not finding the right partner to name a few). Egg-freezing (oocyte cytopreservation) offers women the option of storing younger eggs for a later date. Egg-freezing does not come without a cost both financial and physical. Women must go through and pay for the IVF cycle and they may have to go through multi...ple cycles depending on the amount of eggs retrieved. The older the woman, the more eggs need to be preserved, to ensure a good chance of taking home a baby in the future. Therefore realistically, we should be talking about egg freezing in our early 30s. Theres never a guarantee, and we shouldnt get complacent about our fertility, but nonetheless, egg freezing is an important issue we should be considering. My friend and colleague Dr Simone Campbell talks to the ABC about this important issue:
