05.01.2022 An email from Magformers in responding to a tragedy a US child swallowed several magnetic pieces in his magnetic toys, Magformers is a fantastic educational toy and learning resource. They are absolutely beneficial for children to play and create with. Unfortunately, the success of Magformers (as with any successful and innovative brand) has resulted in many 'knock-off' / copy products. We have always tried to educate and warn consumers that it is simply not worth the risk to... buy imitations. As some of you may be aware, there has been a very unfortunate incident involving a 4 year old boy (in Wisconsin US) swallowing numerous small magnets which required surgery and hospitalisation. Our thoughts and prayers are with the little boy and his family, for a speedy recovery. It has been confirmed that the product involved, was a knock-off brand, which looked like a Magformers product, but was not. Any reference to the product concerned being "Magformers" is simply untrue and inaccurate. It was NOT a Magformers product. Unfortunately, there are many knock-off products in the market that may not have been safety tested to the Australian Safety Standards (especially those bought from overseas or online). There is ALWAYS a reason why cheaper knock-offs are cheaper. It is timely to once again warn consumers about the potential dangers of buying fake / copy products (especially those containing magnets).
