25.01.2022 Many of this lovely community have expressed the dread of home schooling and some have asked how to support small businesses, thank you! If you are already home schooling with self isolation or just trying to #flattenthecurve and think youll need a bit of help educating and keeping your kids entertained over the coming weeks, then need not fear!! I have a small amount of KiwiCo kits available to break the boredom and the screen time!! In most styles I only have one or a c...ouple available. The Hydraulic Claw and Science of Trees there are a few extras though. If you live locally and want to pick up to save postage, just let me know. Where possible I will try to deliver. In the boxes there is a set of instructions with images to build the kit and information on the science or art, links to further online learning and ideas for other experiments that can easily be done with general home supplies. The link is below and some images of some of the kits. Thanking you in advance. https://www.dreamspacecreative.com.au/gifts

18.01.2022 And 1 more example of a small Rube Goldberg machine designed by junior primary. This is an awesome school holidays, screen free, creative and engineering task. Use any toys and home supplies... see the link attached for ideas. Youll be totally surprised what you already have and what you can do with a bit team work and planning! And keep it fun!! https://tinkerlab.com/engineering-kids-rube-goldberg-machi/
18.01.2022 With Anzac Day approaching you may like to get the kids making a poppy wreath to hang on your door or front gate. Various options in the link below. https://ohcreativeday.com/diy-poppy-remembrance-wreath/
18.01.2022 Earth Day is April 22 and today I came across this beautiful website for nature play. There are some free videos on making flower crowns, wood whittling and finger knitting among others. Theres also a great book if you are interested. Im in love with the warmth of content along with getting our kids back into nature with a creative focus, rather than just saying go out and play. https://www.wildimagination.com.au/
18.01.2022 The traditional bi-carb and vinegar explosion (with a bit of food colouring) after building the volcano with LEGO. They each built their own and occupied them for over an hr!
16.01.2022 Another example of our Rube Goldberg machines.
16.01.2022 Snapshots of a few weeks ago. (Actually, last week we were so busy I didn’t even get to take a picture.) Prior to that we explored and designed under the sea creatures, looked further into possible construction methods in our STEM boxes and at pulley systems. Some kids made a rescue device to pull an injured person (ok, teddy) to safety which was a great connection to pulleys in action. They also thought about how they could keep the rescue bed relatively flat, so the teddy (George) was comfortable.
16.01.2022 Term 3 resumed last week after Covid shutdowns and while there were a few differences to procedures, having fun was still top of the list! Exploring sound waves and vibrations while holding our very own sprinkle dance party was kinda cute and loads of fun, especially when they all started flying around and onto the floor... must remember my vacuum in future To make a basic cymatics machine at home... follow this link. ... https://www.cleverpatch.com.au/PdfGenerator.ashx
16.01.2022 Having fun building a spin art machine.
15.01.2022 From the awesome creatives over at Little Bins for Little Hands: build a Lego volcano. I would love to see some video or photos if you do! Tip: put it on a baking tray and perhaps outside on the grass too. https://littlebinsforlittlehands.com/build-a-lego-volcano-/... Lots of other baking soda experiments at the bottom of the link: fizzy green eggs and ham, bath bombs, baking soda balloon experiments and love potions for kids.
14.01.2022 Instant Ice from Raising Life Long Learners. https://raisinglifelonglearners.com/instant-ice-science/ Tap water contains particles and impurities allowing ice to develop. However, purified water doesnt and will need a much colder temperature before solidifying.... Leave an unopened bottle of purified water in the freezer for two to three hours. The bottle will be a lot colder than the freezing point of regular water. Pour this super-chilled water onto a block of ice (regular water) and you should see it latch onto the regular ices impurities and freeze instantly! Sounds like fun!! (Text from KiwiCo)
13.01.2022 A special hello to my Tuesday class and to a fab family in Northbridge who sent me some photos of the Paint Pendulum project. I wish I was able to do this project with you all but Id love to see some more results if you have experimented at home. This box was jam packed with ideas and other game play ideas. Thanks to Felix and Spencer for sending through these pics.
12.01.2022 So much fun in reflections and optical illusions. We developed skills in interpreting visual and written instructions and building finger strength in the construction methods with no glue or tape. Such pretty, artistic effects too.
12.01.2022 A friend shared this idea with us, so today we gave it a go. You just need chalk and masking tape. Big and little kids can get involved. If you want to link this to maths, you could get the kids to create Tangrams in paper and see what different designs they can make with them. We went abstract and visual with our design inspired by the art piece linked in the pictures. The tangram is a dissection puzzle consisting of seven flat shapes, called tans, which are put together to form shapes. The objective of the puzzle is to form a certain shape (i.e square) using all seven pieces, which can not overlap.
11.01.2022 As it spins it forces the paint out and creates completely unique little art pieces. A lot of fun!!
11.01.2022 Looking for something to do with all the empty toilet rolls?? Get the kids doing some Easter prep or just making cool critters.
11.01.2022 Last week we started exploring our new STEAM kits with enthusiastic results. Allowing the students to explore material properties, construction methods and most importantly think more critically and creatively- they are a win, win in building problem solving skills and team work. They will work on increasingly more complex task and learn to think like designers. After an initial introduction into properties and safety, we then had some fun building a basic chassis. What a workout our little fingers received too. Tying, bending, sticking and stretching elastic bands, all fab fine motor development! Oh and no glue or tape allowed, so they have to analyze the possibilities of each piece and how they will join together.
11.01.2022 Easter craft ideas for our little ones... super cute and easy! Pasta egg decorating (if you have any). Pop a hole punch through the top and thread some string. These would look lovely decorating a tree or plant in your front yard.
09.01.2022 Term holidays are almost here and the online learning program from the school will stop for almost 3 weeks . What are your kids going to do? Dont panic, Ive got you covered!! Dreamspace activities are screen free and really engaging. More products on site. https://www.dreamspacecreative.com.au/gifts

06.01.2022 I love this heart shape design and one for Easter. You could also do egg shapes too!
05.01.2022 Loads of fun and creative ideas in this video for pre schoolers and early primary that help with fine and gross motor skills in really engaging ways!

04.01.2022 Stay at Home and STEAM!! Entertain and educate the kids at the same time. If you are in self isolation to #flattenthecurve and think youll need a bit of help keeping the sanity then need not fear!! I have a small amount of KiwiCo kits available to break the boredom and the screen time!! Science, Tech, Engineering, Art and Maths that are fun! 04.01.2022 And a bit of slo-mo action of the paint pendulum... so satisfying.
03.01.2022 Heres our version of the Lego volcano experiment. Sunshine land and a fortress built around a volcano in a Jurassic world.
03.01.2022 Last week we did a similar experiment with different coloured glitters in each childs hand so we could see the spread of our glittery germs to each other. Let me tell you, it happened quickly and ended up in finger nails, up arms and on faces after 30 seconds of hand shaking. It really brought home why we wash up past our wrists, which we did straight away, and why we shouldnt touch our faces (so hard I know ). I really like how this experiment in the video was done without the children knowing and over the course of a full day. It would be worthwhile showing this to children and adults and why social distancing is really not easy in a school environment. To my fellow educators I applaud all you are doing in very difficult circumstances. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5-dI74zxPg
02.01.2022 P.E with Joe!! If youre stuck at home from next week and need physical activity for your kids check this out!! Follow this guy and get some fitness in.
02.01.2022 Last week we split into little groups and made our own Rube Goldberg machines which were a lot of fun. Basically a Rube Goldberg machine is designed to perform a simple task in an overly complicated way... utilizing creativity, design, simple machines and an excellent example of S.T.E.A.M thinking. With only 1hr and 15 minutes, we decided to design a series of simple chain reactions to pop a balloon! To see another amazing Rube Goldberg example follow the link below and wat...ch our examples over the next few posts. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=qybUFnY7Y8w
01.01.2022 Heres some more of my Tuesday class cuties with their chalk art from this week. Well done kids!
