25.01.2022 We had a great start to the school holidays having the opportunity to run some traditional games activities at Camp Australia Vacation Care programs at Toowoomba East and Middle Ridge! With the weather starting to heat up the kids at East had heaps of fun playing running games on the school oval whilst the Middle Ridge kids played a super competitive game of Tambil Tambil on the school basketball court. We are looking forward to being able to visit more Vacation Care programs... this week now that COVID restrictions are slowly starting to ease across the state. #dreamtimegames #sharingourculturethroughgames #traditionalIndigenousgames #schoolholidays #toowoomba #vacation #oshc #vacationcare

21.01.2022 Kee'an is another one of our favourite games to play when we visit schools and OSHC services! Kee’an is a game used to improve throwing skills for hunting in northern Queensland. The word Kee’an means ‘to play’ in the Wik-mungkan language of North Queensland. The equipment used mimics a bone that would have been used for hunting. Check out this awesome video from QLD Sport and Recreation outlining how to play a modern variation of this throwing game.... https://www.youtube.com/watch #dreamtimegames #sharingourculturethroughgames #traditionalIndigenousgames

Dusty has been lucky to deliver many community engagement activities surrounding the... QLD PGA tournaments held at the City Golf Club including a pop up driving range on the Toowoomba Village Green and a 9 hole ‘My Golf’ course throughout Queens Park in the Toowoomba CBD. 02.01.2022 Buroinjin is one of our favourite games to play when we visit high schools! This is a ball game played by the Kabi Kabi people of South Queensland. The game was played with a ball made of kangaroo skin, which was called a Buroinjin. Check out this awesome video from QLD Sport and Recreation outlining how to play this fast paced ball game.... https://youtu.be/ddd9V4CFHSI #dreamtimegames #sharingourculturethroughgames #traditionalIndigenousgames

01.01.2022 From the Archives: We are taking another look back into the past during this slow phase before the very busy NAIDOC Week and December/January school holiday period kicks off. Our games facilitator Dusty through his previous sport and recreation career has had the opportunity to get involved in various local youth programs such as Toowoomba Midnight Basketball program as a Participant Coordinator, coach and referee and running sporting activities at other programs such as the ...Whaddup Indigenous Youth Program. The Midnight Basketball program was a favourite of many high school aged youth across the Toowoomba area with nearly 100 high school aged youth each Friday night descending on the courts at Harristown SHS to play in a round robin competition and learn some important life skills along the way and was one of Dusty's favourite programs to be involved with. #dreamtimegames #sharingourculturethroughgames #fromthearchives #youthprograms #whaddup #basketball #midnightbasketball

01.01.2022 Our games facilitator Dusty, in his other work role with the Ambulance service, recently got to visit the lovely Wyreema State School again for the second time this year to help teach the Prep and Year One students about the importance of ringing 000 in an emergency. Dusty had only just visited Wyreema SS a couple of weeks ago to run some traditional games for the schools NAIDOC celebrations for Dreamtime Games. Whilst at the school for NAIDOC the younger grades were also le...arning about calling 000 in an emergency so once the teaching staff learnt Dusty was also an Emergency Medical Dispatcher they invited him back to talk to these students. The kids had a great time doing Dusty’s special ‘000 quiz’ and ‘Is It An Emergency?’ games and learning about the importance of knowing their address and telephone number. #communityengagement #ambulance #000 #qldambulance #qldambulanceservice #emergencymedicaldispatcher #wyreema
