25.01.2022 A well balanced diet is extremely important for your little one. I certainly don’t recommend restricting overall protein intake. However, if you can be strategic about when you offer your little one their protein, you will set them up for blissful, comfortable sleep. Too much protein given to babies under 10 months, before bed can upset the tummy and get the digestive system working too hard through the night. Now don’t get me wrong, protein is also extremely important... in encouraging great sleep! So, offer a protein rich breakfast and lunch (think eggs, salmon, chicken, pork, beans, cheese etc), to ensure your bubby is filling their belly with good healthy nutrients. Then offer a meal heavier in good carbohydrates (think whole wheat pastas, potato’s, grains etc). Ensure your baby is eating a balanced diet rich in vitamins such as magnesium, iron and zinc! This will not only nourish their little growing bodies, but it will also help them sleep! #sleepconsultant #sleepybaby #toddlerlife #healthylife #nourished #protein #goodfood #sweetdreams #motherhood #baby #toddler #motherhoodunplugged #parenthood #lovesleep #learntosleep #babywhisperer #sleepexpert See more
25.01.2022 While I am a strong advocate of routine (biological sleep windows, hormone production and all that jazz)! I also understand that many mothers prefer flexibility which is totally okay! If you like to take a more baby-led approach, it is really important to know your babies tired cues; because if you miss these and have an overtired bubby on your hands, you’re in for a rough time! Some common tired cues are: -glazed over expression... -jerky movements -yawning -crankiness or fussy behaviour -Excessive blinking -loss of interest in toys and activities As soon as your baby starts to show some of their tired signs it’s important to commence a wind down ritual and nap. If you leave it so long that your baby is falling asleep in their bouncer then they have well and truly entered over-tiredness zone and the vicious cycle of catnapping is likely to begin! 20.01.2022 Reviews like this are seriously what I do this for! Eromal really needed a nice gentle approach with some flexibility so she could still get out and connect with people. and that’s exactly what I delivered. We worked together over a number of weeks in order to gradually get to exactly where we wanted to be without making all of the changes in one big hit!... Not only did we completely transform little Kaylen’s sleep for the better with minimal fuss, but we also got Eromal and Ara their bedroom back and helped them to be able to sleep comfortably through the night! It was such a nice experience working with this gorgeous family and the bond that we built was pretty special! I am so humbled to have been given the opportunity to be a support to Eromal and her boys! 19.01.2022 Today is R U Ok day, an extremely important day in my opinion. Whether you are a parent or not, whether you are sleep deprived or not, whether you know me personally or not... I am always happy to offer an ear to anyone who needs someone to chat to. After having my own struggles with post natal depression, I understand what it means to feel like you are not coping! One thing I know to be true is that you are not alone! 2020 has been an extremely challenging year for people o...f all walks of life. It is absolutely okay to not be okay! The important thing is that you have someone to talk to and help you move through it. Dream to Grow is with you! I am with you. #ruok #ruokday #startaconversation #postnataldepression #speakup #support #itsokaynottobeokay #hereforyou
19.01.2022 So I have already discussed the importance of watching for tired cues in a previous post! But it is also super important to adhere to age appropriate awake windows too. Your little bubby cannot tolerate long periods of wakefulness. They need frequent naps if you want to avoid them becoming overtired and grumpy! We already know that an overtired bubby does not sleep well! As your baby grows, so will their awake windows. If you try to put a 6 month old down for a nap 1....5 hours after they woke from their last nap, they are unlikely to go to sleep without a fight! Even if you do manage to get them to sleep, the likelihood of them sleeping more than a single cycle is slim to none! So watch those awake windows #sleepconsultant #sleepybaby #toddlerlife #sweetdreams #motherhood #baby #toddler #motherhoodunplugged #parenthood #lovesleep #learntosleep #babywhisperer #sleepexpert #sleeptips #awakewindows #routine #naps #babysleep #babysleephelp See more

17.01.2022 Birth trauma is real! When someone you care about has a baby, please check in on them. Nothing shakes up a woman’s world the way birth does, and if the birth was particularly unpleasant that beautiful woman might need some support and attention. Be the supportive friend/ family member you would need if you were feeling vulnerable
14.01.2022 I know I bang on about this one a lot! But it is super important. Babies are creatures of habit and a healthy bedtime routine will not only help them to feel relaxed and ready to go to bed, but it also alerts them to bedtime approaching! Here are my personal top 5 tips for bedtime routine! 1. Don’t stress!- If you are running 10mins late for dinner or your little one has a poo explosion and bathes earlier than normal. Your whole night is not going to fall apart!Just go with ...it! 2. Bath or shower together!- My hubby loves the time he spends showering with our two! They play, bond, learn and laugh! 3. Choose a quiet, but enjoyable wind down activity to do each night!- Read stories together (you could even start a chapter book), lay down and sing songs with hand actions, make shadow puppets! 4. Cuddle!- If you need extra cuddle time, steal it! Don’t let the routine dictate the time you spend loving your baby! The occasional night that they fall asleep in your arms is not going to ruin all of their self-settling progress. 5. Live your life!- say yes to that dinner at your friends house, stay that extra hour at the beach. Your baby will sleep in the pram if they need to and if they don’t and your night isn’t perfect! You can bounce back the next one. What does your bedtime routine look like? I’d love to hear about it! #sleepconsultant #bedtime #bedtimeroutine #routine #sleep #babysleep #toddlerlife #baby #sleepybaby #dreambig #babywhisperer #sleepexpert #learntosleep #dreamtogrow #toptips

07.01.2022 Sleep is so important! Not just for us adults but your children too! Contrary to this weirdly popular belief... Sleep is actually extremely important and babies actually do not have to wake hourly through the night. So much growth and development occurs during those restorative hours! There is ample scientific evidence to support that! So do your little one (and yourself) a favour and put sleep on your list of priorities! #babiescansleep #sleep #sleepisimportant #sleepconsultant #motherhood #motherhoodunplugged #parenthood #learntosleep #raisingchildren
06.01.2022 ~ ~ So currently Hugo sleeps with... 2 matchbox cars 2-3 @riffraff_sleeptoys, a drink bottle and now Woody and Buzzy... So! From 9 months of age, role play is a great way to demonstrate to your child what your expectations around Sleep are, and to teach them about staying in their bed in a fun way! ... The basic run down of how to implement role play with your little one is: 1. Get your child to help you select a special dolly/ teddy 2. At bedtime, do the normal bedtime routine and include special dolly/teddy in that. 3. Put dolly/teddy to bed in their own special bed and tell them that you would like them to stay in their bed until morning. Make sure your child (if speaking) also instructs their toy to stay in bed. -4. In the morning when you go in to your child, if dolly/teddy have stayed in their bed all night you praise them and tell them how clever they are! Make a big fuss about how proud you are that they stayed in bed! 5. if your child did the same, they receive praise too! If they did not, you simply tell them you are sad that they didn’t stay in their bed and move on. There is no need to go on about it too much. Simply praising their toy and not them will get them clued in. 6. Some children will be super cheeky and pull their dolly/ teddy out of bed and then jump back into bed themselves. That way they get all the praise! Others will pull dolly/teddy out of their bed simply because, if your child is going down, dolly or teddy are going with them... and of course... if you are my child, you will get out of your bed to put Woody and Buzzy into bed with you When the sleep consultant gets outsmarted by her own child Do you have a toddler who loves to get out of bed? #sleepconsultant #roleplay #toddlerlife #outsmarted #schooled #motherhood #motherhoodunplugged #parenthood #raisingchildren #bedtime #routine #8inthebed #sendhelp
06.01.2022 I know that getting your baby’s sleep right might feel like an exact science that can unravel at any minute! Trust me... I’ve been there. I know how anxiety inducing it is when you are trying to foster healthy sleep habits and a nap doesn’t go to plan, or you really want to go out to dinner at a friends place but it would mean a late night or disrupted sleep for your baby! Don’t do what I did in the early days with my first son and let sleep become this all consuming issue... at the forefront of your mind! Go out to your friends for dinner, spend an extra half hour at the park, let your baby have a sleep in your arms when you are having a bad day! IT’S TOTALLY OKAY! You will always be able to bounce back from an off day! Your little ones are only little once so live these early days to their fullest! #sleepconsultant #sleepybaby #toddlerlife #sweetdreams #motherhood #baby #toddler #motherhoodunplugged #parenthood #lovesleep #learntosleep #babywhisperer #sleepexpert #livelifetithefullest See more
05.01.2022 I feel like so many of the beautiful parents I work with share the same sentiment, the feeling of becoming part of the decor once their little bundle comes along. I’ve been there... it’s not easy. Having your baby is so special and I don’t want to take away from that at all. But it’s hard. Really really hard. There is so much to learn, so much to do and newborns are hungry little suckers and really really want to get to know you! Not to mention either your downstairs is tota...lly and utterly mangled () or you have literally just been cut open! Imagine going home after major surgery only to immediately resume your regular daily activities? That’s having a baby for you! On and breast feeding?! Ummm seriously! Whoever said that was easy LIED! During this very turbulent time in my life I really found myself craving an adult conversation. I really wanted to vent to someone about the whole experience, but was far too insecure to come out and say it wasn’t all sunshine, snuggles and blissful bonding. I swear the first girlfriend that asked me how I felt and really probed me copped the earbashing of a lifetime... but you know what? Getting it off my chest, remembering I am a person and that people still care about me was all I needed to get on with loving the crap out of my little baby H! So if you are a new parent and feel like you are drowning in the ocean that is your new life. Reach out to someone. If someone you love is about to have a baby. Please remember to take some time out of swooning over the delicious baby to be there for your friend. They probably need your love more than you know! #mothersmatter #motherhood #motherhoodunplugged #parenthood #pnd #postnataldepression #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealth #babies #newparents #newmum #sendhelp #support #love
05.01.2022 So, I mentioned in sleep tip #6 that darkness is really important and I’ve had a few people message me asking why. So I thought I’d give it a sleep tip all of its own Melatonin, which is our sleep hormone, is actually produced as a response to darkness. It is released by our Pineal Gland, which is responsible for regulating our wake-sleep cycles. Given that this extremely vital hormone is only produced in darkness, it is essential to ensure our little ones are given... the opportunity to sleep in the dark. This will encourage a deep and restorative sleep, while also helping them to regulate their hormones! How cool is biology!? #sleepconsultant #science #sleepscience #melatonin #babysleep #sleepybaby #toddlerlife #sweetdreams #motherhood #baby #toddler #motherhoodunplugged #parenthood #lovesleep #learntosleep #babywhisperer #sleepexpert See more
03.01.2022 Yes, even sleep consultants babies go through sleep regressions and we are in the thick of the 12 month regression as we speak! This sleep regression often hits without warning and can be extremely disheartening if your baby was previously sleeping well. The good news is that much like the 8 and 18month regressions, the 12-month sleep regression is usually temporary, lasting approximately 2-3 weeks and occurring at some point between 11 and 13months. Like with all slee...p regressions though, it is really important that we maintain healthy sleep habits and avoid introducing new sleep associations or sleep props which may prove difficult to overcome later, such as laying with your child to get them to sleep, letting them sleep in your bed, offering milk feeds through the night where previously they weren’t having any. Many parents panic and think that they need to make drastic changes to their child’s routine to help get them through. Please don’t fall into this trap because you may find that the changes can wreak havoc on your child’s sleep, and it may take a long time to undo the damage. Examples of making counter intuitive changes to your little one’s routine include: -Trying to prematurely drop the morning nap -Trying to push bedtime out later -Allowing them to sleep longer for their naps It is only natural to want to intervene and solve all of little ones night time problems. However, with these sleep regressions it is often best to exercise patience and support your little one through it. People often panic because they know that the four-month Sleep regression marks a permanent change in their child’s sleep and they therefore worry that all future regressions will be the same. But it’s certainly not the case. If you are struggling with baby/ toddler sleep, and need some strategies to overcome these bedtime battles flick me a DM! #sleepconsultant #mumlife #sleepregression #chaos #sleepybaby #toddlerlife #sweetdreams #motherhood #baby #toddler #motherhoodunplugged #parenthood #lovesleep #learntosleep #babywhisperer #sleepexpert #family See more
01.01.2022 So relatable! But in all seriousness, it’s so important to find your village. Having a village doesn’t have to mean a revolving door of family and friends who are always around to help with physical tasks. 01.01.2022 ~’ ~ I know that this motherhood (or fatherhood) gig can be really hard sometimes. I know that some days you feel like a failure. You feel tired... no not tired... EXHAUSTED, your fuse is too short and the repetitiveness of it all makes you feel like it’s Groundhog Day. I want you to know that you are not alone! For every bad day you have, there will be many amazing ones. You are just having a moment... live that moment, have a cry in the shower, ea...t that bar of chocolate and do what you need to do to get through it. It’s normal to feel this way and if you are feeling this way more often than you think is sustainable, then reach out! I for one am always happy to be an ear to any parent who needs one! Just remember at the end of the day, to breath in your beautiful baby, cuddle them tight and soak in some of the love that they are just oozing for you. They are your greatest accomplishment and you are their entire universe! Sleep deprivation can be really debilitating.
