15.01.2022 " A child wears his fatigue like a suit of itchy, ill-fitting clothing. Putting him to bed with authority and affection may be likened to helping him out of an unbearable, uncomfortable outfit and into a pair of well worn pajamas" (Schaenen)

14.01.2022 Hello Darkness My old Friend! Always be sure your child’s bedroom is as dark as possible! It needs to be as dark at 4-6am as it is at 1am. You may need to add some blackout blinds to the windows to achieve this. As soon as babies and children see any light, it will throw off melatonin levels and will probably inhibit their ability to go back to sleep. ... When they wake up in the morning (after 6am) take them out of their room into a very well lit room so they know it is day time. Then wait 30 minutes to feed. This breaks the cycle of expecting food on every waking!

14.01.2022 I just received this from a happy mum........ 'Baby Sheridan- naps were 30-45 minutes in her bouncer if we were lucky and at night she was waking every two hours. We were all exhausted! It was so wonderful to have Fran's support to turn it all around. Wonderful knowing that she had worked with many other families to achieve results, and wonderful having her support throughout the sleep training period. Keeping a sleep journal really allowed us to be consistent with nap and bedtimes routines and times, and with FA testimonial Fran's guidance we worked together as a team to be 100% consistent. We now have an excellent sleeper and two very happy parents. Thank you Fran'

13.01.2022 Create the PERFECT BEDTIME ROUTINE! 1. Be consistent each night, with both the routine and the timing - children love to know what comes next 2. Having a bath is a clear signal that night time is approaching and it's completely different to the rest of their day. 3. Keep the routine between 20-30minutes. Much longer than that and it loses it's meaning and impact 4. Make sure that the room is dark... 5. Be sure that your baby stays awake during their last feed. 6. Place your baby in their bed while they are still awake - this helps them learn about falling asleep without needing to be rocked, bounced, carried or fed to sleep. Doing this means when they stir during the night (which we ALL do), that they will have some skills to move quickly from one sleep cycle peacefully into the next one See more

11.01.2022 Are you wondering how you will manage sleep now that daylight savings are finishing up Sunday April 5th? Here's some simple advice to get your family back to sleeping at their regular times. For Autumn or Fall Back, my recommendation to all parents is just to leave the clocks alone so it’s not a psychologically upsetting event to see your little one up an hour earlier. Just get up at your usual time and start the day. After your cup of coffee and a bit of breakfast, then yo...u can go around changing the clocks. It will feel much better this way, trust me! If, for example, your little one usually takes a morning nap around 9:30, you will adjust this to 9:00 for the three days after the time change. It will be a bit of a push for your child, but not so much that it will cause much damage to her schedule. Do the same for the afternoon nap. Let’s say your child usually goes to bed at 7 p.m. I recommend putting that child to bed at 6:30 p.m. for the first three days following the time change. (This will FEEL like 7:30 to your child.) And it will take about a week for your child’s body to get used to this. It takes everybody’s body roughly one week to adjust to any kind of change in sleeping habits. If you have children over the age of two, you can put a digital clock in the room and put a piece of tape over the minutes, so that they can see if it is 6 o’clock or 7 o’clock, but they cannot see the minutes, which often confuses toddlers. Just set the clock forward half an hour so that at 6:30 it says 7:00 and let them get up a little earlier than normal, knowing that, by the end of the week, they will be back on track and sleep until their normal wakeup time. If you are dealing with a baby, you cannot do that. Do not rush in as soon as you hear your baby waking up, because you do not want to send a message that getting up at 6 a.m. is okay now. So if she normally wakes at 7:00, but is now up at 6:00, you will wait till 6:10am the first day, and then 6:20 the next, then 6:30 the next day and, by the end of the week, your baby’s schedule should be adjusted to the new time and waking up at their usual hour. On the fourth night, just get in line with the new time so your baby is back to going to bed when the clock says 7:00 pm. Adjust naps to the correct time on day 4 as well. See more
