24.01.2022 Larger dogs with medially luxating patellas often need more serious attention to get things lined up. This Labrador had a grade 3 luxation partially due to his distal femoral varus. The femur was straightened by taking a small wedge and plating the bone as you can see on my drawings. It’s a major renovation but I’m hopeful it will help him out in the long run
24.01.2022 Last week I talked to a Primary School about being a vet! Here’s our chihuahua, Billy who was a great patient and my youngest daughter, Anna who was a great assistant!
24.01.2022 Fractures of the humerus are difficult to fix. This one in a 2yo cat was repaired with a combination plate and rod. Even though it looks like it’s not all put together, the body will do a fine job bringing those fragments together again in about 2-3 months
21.01.2022 This poor guy had his pelvis smashed to smithereens after being hit by a car. We had to do some pretty drastic surgery to help him, but a few days later he’s starting to walk. What a champion!! Great work by the vets and nurses at @kwinanaveterinaryhospital !!

17.01.2022 Little orphan ringtail possum down in Busselton. Endangered now as they are easily preyed on by domestic animals
17.01.2022 When cats ‘do their acl’ they really like to rip things up! Multiple ligament injuries are common which makes fixing them a big challenge. Hopefully with a few weeks off patrol duty this guy will be ok
13.01.2022 This is why dogs shouldn’t jump on trampolines! @ Mundijong, Western Australia
12.01.2022 All four metacarpals fractured when o accidentally stood on her foot (trying to stop her from eating the guinea pig!) external fixator allows for biological osteosynthesis - really important in small bones
06.01.2022 Sometimes you bump into some amazing creatures!
05.01.2022 Never thought this would be my ride to work!

03.01.2022 Tiny poodle bones sometimes just snap! This little darling was only a few months old when she jumped out of her owner’s arms. Now one month later and you can’t see the fracture line. Still a way to go but great progress!
