25.01.2022 Wrap-up of our second patient in this series. The patient has had numerous issues with his teeth and received various implants, but the implants only addressed a single specific issue at each time without taking into consideration the bigger picture and the patients not too unreasonable desire for not being embarrassed to smile. The cycle of problems with his natural teeth started also affecting his implants. Our patient and his family were looking for answers and saw many ...specialists over the last 2 years, but the treatments proposed were in excess of $80,000 again, but again only addressed individual issues. He was in limbo because his instinct was that the cycle of problems was just going to continue. He was looking for a solution, something more definitive and aesthetic, not just dental treatment. After doing lots of research his daughter suggested he consider All-On-4. He lost a significant amount of bone in the upper because of an implant-associated infection and his jaw anatomy, which required us to use Zygoma implants. 20.01.2022 Wrap-up of our third patient in this series, who received upper implant treatment in Canada. She was concerned that after 4 years of grafting and implants at a substantial expense, she still ended up with a loose denture that was so loose it was falling out of her mouth as she was chatting to us. In the meantime, her lower teeth deteriorated but she feared that if she got implants the same would happen with the lower. She could not bear the thought of that and decided to get ...a second opinion at All-On-4 Clinic in Australia. Her upper implants were in fact well positioned, but the overall plan was inadequate, especially considering her poor bite and desires. We decided to use the existing implants and add 2 Zygoma implants in order to provide adequate support for a fixed bridge, and an All-On-4 restoration in the lower. 15.01.2022 Barcelona is leading the way to be the next location for the Dental Implants Masters 2nd Global Summit to be held 25-30 June 2021. Following the amazing feedback following our Mykonos 2019 Summit, after tentatively booking the same we decided to run a survey of our past conference attendees to determine location preferences. Though we can change the behavioural factors by educating our patients to improve their Dental IQ, we need to ensure that when we undertake complex rehabilitation, such as pictured here (upper Zygoma and Lower All-On-4) we must also provide them with a kind of surgery and a kind of restoration that does not hamper their ability to easily and effectively ...clean their new teeth. 13.01.2022 Wrap-up of our first patient in this series. The patient was referred by her dentist with multiple infections from implants placed at various clinics over the years. She had pain throughout her jaws and foul odour. She was also lethargic from the infective load in her mouth. The primary reason for those complications was that there were too many implants placed over the years, and at positions that made them very difficult to keep clean. We discuss this case in detail as well as the treatment that we performed. Stay tuned for the next segment where we discuss another interesting case done on the same day.

In case youre wondering YESSS I do get that a lot Except, ...we did come close but when we tried the new teeth the day after surgery my patients wife felt that my tooth colour didnt suit her husband it makes him look too old she said. Im thinking OK, but tell me what you really think about MY teeth. We changed the colour, re shuffled them around, and made my patient (and his wife) very happy, by making them look NOTHING like my... teeth! The treatment was All-On-4 with Zygoma in the upper. One of the nice benefits of going this way (other than an immediate fix to a long cycle of dental problems) is our ability to design exactly what our patient wants. 07.01.2022 Jawbone atrophy is a known phenomenon following the loss of teeth and installation of dentures. As the bone continues to atrophy over time, the dentures become thicker and looser in the mouth, especially in the lower jaw, and eventually may press on nerve bundles causing intolerable pain. Many such patients present with their lower dentures in their pockets because they cannot tolerate them in their mouth. Our patient reached a point where his quality of life was severely impacted by his dentures, and this video shows his IMMEDIATE transformation with All-On-4 dental implants in the lower and Quad Zygoma in the upper.

05.01.2022 Kicking off the new year with work before my holiday is officially over. I presented at the 1st joint AO-APSO international conference on dental implants in Kuala Lumpur. My topic was Quality Standards. What better way to consolidate the message of my lecture by putting a "scalpel where my mouth is" so I suggested to the scientific committee that I could undertake a workshop and live surgery to a select audience, and then present it on the main podium. To make a long story s...hort (or shorter) what started off with a plan for a one hour lecture ended up in a 2-day experience that will be difficult to forget Day 1 - Workshop for 100 people (original limit was 70) followed by Live Surgery followed by a treatment wrap up and Q&A all before lunch! Day 2 - Live fitting of the FINAL teeth for our patient from the prior days surgery followed by a presentation on the main stage on Quality Standards in Oral Rehabilitation on Implants. Save to say we managed to give our patient a reason to smile after many years of not being able to do so made it worth the trip. This was followed by a mad rush (more like a slow crawl) through the KL traffic to the conference hotel where I had to speak for an hour, but I still had to add clips of the insertion into my presentation, so had to do this while on our way in the car. As a final change of plans I wanted to surprise the audience by having our patient come on stage after my lecture for a quick interview before wrapping up. Food On the night we arrived we ate at Nobu KL and it was outstanding in every way, and nice to be able to go up to the rooftop bar with the Straumann gang for some fresh air and a special view of Petrona Towers. On the third night we had Pres at the bar at Four Seasons KL its just gorgeous (as you would expect), and the cocktails were spot on. Dinner at their restaurant was buffet, and also lived up to the high expectations for this establishment.
