25.01.2022 VARTA is an independent body to the IVF clinics. IVF clinics are required to report their data annually. Like most things in life, the more you do and the more experienced you are, the better you are! You can find the report by typing VARTA annual report into google and select 2018/2019. #ilovemelbourneivf #ivfsuccess #IVF #Melbourne #bestofthebest #beyourbest #proud #integrity #science #research #pregnancy #baby #motivation

24.01.2022 Did you know that IVF laboratory stress affects the chance of random chromosomal errors occurring in embryos? The rate of these errors differ between IVF clinics. An experienced lab will know how to create the optimal conditions for embryos to achieve their best potential. Fortunately for Melbourne IVF patients, we have Professor David Gardner leading the team. His research discoveries continue to enhance embryo development. We eagerly await the results of his latest research, the anti-oxidant trial. Enrolment is open to Melbourne IVF patients only.

23.01.2022 Holding the future in their hands. . This beautiful couple are now on the other side. . Everyone that has had infertility has a story to tell. When you or someone you know goes through adversity and manages to come out the other side as a better version of themselves, it is an achievement. ... . It is possible to experience personal growth by living through the kind of trauma that infertility can be. Relationships can strengthen. Some discover a new purpose or path in life. A newfound inner strength can develop. Some become more spiritual and others have a new appreciation for life. . Its not easy to grow through adversity of any kind. Its hard but necessary to try and make sense of your experience. Reflecting on the events and discussion with supportive team can help you derive meaning from what has happened. . Hopefully you are stronger and a better version of yourself on the other side. Perhaps, holding a better version of yourself. . Thankyou for letting me share your beautiful photo. Heartfelt congrats once again x . #Hope #strength #love #IVF #ilovemelbourneivf #betterversionofyourself #pregnancy #baby #makingbabies #doctor #fleur See more
23.01.2022 I post baby photos with some reservation. For some people, these images make them feel sad and for that, I am sorry. I wish I could share all the details of the journeys I see people take every day. Some are short, some are long, some are really REALLY long, such as the journey to this little girl. If I had to describe how this journey went for me personally, it would be intense! ... It would be so much easier if one knew the journey would be ultimately successful. It wouldnt be so hard to get through all the steps in between. But living with the uncertainty is hard. But until you run out of alternatives, what is the evidence that you wont have a baby? I play the role of doctor, friend and coach. The more I see, (and believe me, I have seen a lot!) the more I am reassured that it works out in the end. A special Thankyou to the wonderful Dr Lionel Steinberg for delivering this baby so expertly and safely. I am truely grateful
22.01.2022 Today, we say thank you to our Embryology team. The work you do is incredible, and without you we couldnt give our patients the opportunity to have a baby. Th...ank you for all your hard work, compassion and skill. We appreciate everything that you do. On behalf of MelbourneIVF, happy World Embryology Day!
22.01.2022 Antioxidant pilot study results published! The presence of antioxidants during IVF embryo culture for patients 35 to 40 years resulted in a significant increase in implantation and pregnancy rate. Supplementation of antioxidants to IVF and culture media may therefore improve the viability of human embryos plausibly through the reduction of oxidative stress. Melbourne IVF is conducting the large randomised trial now. 19.01.2022 Swipe to see live birth rate predictions from egg freezing. If you have 20 eggs frozen at 36 years of age, you have an 80% chance of a live birth (even if you use these eggs in your 40s) Problem is, if you are in the 20% where no baby results from the eggs. So it shouldnt be seen as a guarantee. Best to seek out an experienced clinic with a proven track record supported by great scientific research. #ilovemelbourneivf #melbourne #reproductiverights #girlpower #single #women #melbourne_insta #wednesdaywisdom @ Melbourne IVF

18.01.2022 The brain is our most powerful sexual organ. . How we think is at the heart of how we experience sex. . Mental health, anxiety and stress are major exterminators of sexual desire and arousal. This often becomes a big problem for couples trying to conceive.... . Many of us are stressed out, with multiple demands on our brain at any one time. When were inattentive or engaging with negative thoughts, sex can be dissatisfying. . But when were completely present, attuned to our senses and our partner, sex can be electrifying. . Mindfulness therapy encourages participants to try to observe thoughts as passing sensations, just as each breath comes and goes. With practice, you can recognize and observe a thought without engaging with its content. . Its not hard to see the relevance to sex. If, during sex, you start to engage with the content of your thoughts, youll probably lose your connection to the moment and the sensations of sex. . Mindfulness meditation can help us enjoy and appreciate sex more and might be useful for couples that have been trying to conceive for a long time. . #valentinesday2020 #valentines #love #life #sensual #pleasure #kiss #friyay #lover #canvas #infertility #ttc #IVF # Melbourne #mindfulness #mindfulinspiration See more
18.01.2022 When conceiving the second is difficult, the experience is often just as painful. You are asked when you will have another, but you cant. Society expects that you are grateful for having one, which of course you are. You know the joy of having a baby but as this mum put it, Every time I pack away my little boys clothes because they are too small, I wonder whether I will use the clothes again. Its the same with the toys I pack away, the sippy cup he no longer needs, when he goes up a size in nappies. When someone asks to borrow the baby capsule that I have safely stored in the roof, I wonder if I will ever need to use or buy these little things again. I dont want to think about packing the cot away when it is time for him to move to a bed. #love #hope #joy #babynumber2 #pregnancy #baby #melbourneivf #IVF #ilovemelbourneivf
18.01.2022 These beautiful girls, with the red tinge in their hair, are my one in a hundred Something special about transferring one embryo and getting two babies Its always a surprise and a worry until identical twins are delivered safely.... Thankyou to their beautiful parents for letting me hold them (not so expertly!) and for allowing me to post the photo xxx
16.01.2022 Artificial Intelligence to make babies? Its happening now. This baby is getting in early, learning about the neural networks required to process and learn from large data sets. This is the future. It will be possible to look all sorts of embryo data from genetics to dietary needs and give each embryo its own health check. With so much data, organisations need to make sure they protect themselves from data stealing and malicious attacks. Fortunately a large organisation like Melbourne has built a fortress of cybersecurity for this purpose. #ai #artificialintelligence #nerd #data #intel #cybersecurity #IVF #makingbabies #ilovemelbourneivf #doctor #future #friyay #instagood
15.01.2022 Nature hit the reset button. . The world is heading into lockdown. The worlds largest economies are in trouble. .... People are fearful. This brings out the worst out in them. Selfish behaviour, like hoarding of food and medical supplies. . Isolation is growing. People miss human interaction. They miss their friends. They lose their loved ones. . People sing together through their windows. They miss their freedom and are forced to reevaluate what is important. . But nature evolves. Carbon emissions dramatically decrease. Air quality improves. Tourists vanish from Venice but dolphins are seen swimming in the canals. . After natures reset is complete, the world will have shifted into a new state of equilibrium. #forceofnature #powerofpositivity #naturelover #wewillsurvive #togetherwecan #strongertogether #dontworrybehappy See more
15.01.2022 We all have a responsibility to slow the rate of infection so that our hospitals can cope. Stay at home if you have a fever, sore throat or cough. Call your doctor or COVID-19 hotline for advice. Isolate yourself until testing confirmed as negative. Subscribe to the Department of Health for updates. 12.01.2022 More fantastic work presented to ASRM by our scientific director, Professor David Garner and Thi Truong from his University of Melbourne research group. In addition to their other work on antioxidants and the protective effects they have on the growing embryo, they have found that antioxidants improve the survival of mouse embryos after thawing. 11.01.2022 Police checks to do IVF in Victoria. Why??? - its offensive and unfair - Cause women and their partners additional stress... - If you conceive naturally, you dont need one - If you have a vasectomy reversal, you dont need one - Not based on sound evidence - Not required anywhere else in the world - Delays treatment - One of the most common complaints by patients Since police checks were introduced in 2010, the child safeguarding regulatory landscape has changed with the reportable conduct scheme, child safe standards, child info sharing, expansion of mandatory reporting of child abuse and family violence initiatives. Clinics already have a comprehensive approach with an ethics committee and patient review panel. The Minister for Health, the Hon Jenny Mikakos MP is currently reviewing a consultation paper to reverse their 2010 decision. Now would be a great time to write to the minister and express your views. [email protected] Thanks to Dr Manuela, Boon and Alex for the attention grabbing photo to support a great cause!

08.01.2022 At Melbourne IVF, a member of Virtus Health, we want to help open-up conversations around miscarriage and de-stigmatize pregnancy loss, because we know that sad...ly, miscarriage occurs in one in four pregnancies. Which is why Virtus Health is the proud sponsor of a new documentary soon debuting on Stan this October, the Misunderstandings of Miscarriage. The moving new film follows Australian actress and filmmaker Tahyna MacManus on her four-year journey of pregnancy and miscarriage, as she embarks on a quest to shed light on the physical, emotional and psychological impacts of miscarriage, as well as the lived experiences of other women in search of support and understanding. The trailer has officially been released, take a look. #miscarriagematters
08.01.2022 Flow might be the optimal creative state. Its when we get absorbed in a task that stretches our abilities but not so much that our skills cant meet the challenge. The delicate balance between abilities and challenge produces a state of total absorption. We lose sense of time, self doubt vanishes and the task feels effortless. The most intuitive and creative ideas can flow. #flow #create #behuman #life #persistence #meditate #mindfulness #yogainspiration #ivfjourney

02.01.2022 Who is on your team? With the right people on our side we can grow and make progress towards our goals. To build a successful team, you need to develop strong self awareness. How you behave will influence others. Reading and acknowledging the unspoken words, the subtext, is very important. ... Aim for honest, respectful communication. Your team needs to know they can trust you and you can trust them. Is your team supportive of your goals? Are you supportive of theirs? Do you value their thoughts and ideas? Do you take the time to understand each other? Are you lifting each other up? The roles each member plays is of equal importance because in a successful team, all players must be at the top of their game. Do you celebrate your successes together? A strong team bonds through enjoying shared experiences. An individuals success has usually come with the help of many. One team member cant do without the other. Thats how great things happen. 02.01.2022 Its important to me that my patients have a healthy baby as fast as possible. Here I am with fertility dietician Melanie McGrice. Melanie has excellent online resources available to help optimise nutrition when trying to conceive. Did you know that couples that eat a lot of junk food take longer to conceive? Making positive changes in your diet and lifestyle can help you take charge of your fertility. 02.01.2022 20-30% of Infertility could have some dietary contribution . Mediterranean diet Better fertility in group with a higher intake of, Vegetables(organic)... Fruits(wash) Fish Poultry Low fat dairy Olive oil Also a reduced time to conception but no decrease in miscarriage rate . A daily pre-pregnancy multivitamin, - Prevents birth defects - Might also reduce miscarriage and Infertility . Antioxidant supplements Females- 2017 Cochrane review-no benefit of antioxidant supplements. Antioxidant containing foods?probably great Males- antioxidant supplements might increase live birth during IVF treatment (eg. Menevit) . Folic acid - might increase live birth rate . Fat and fertility -Over and underweight reduces fertility -Losing weight too fast reduces fertility Fast food =longer time to pregnancy . Mediterranean diet= better sperm parameters Poor sperm quality seen in, Unhealthy diets High intake of alcohol, sugar, processed meat Low intake of vegetables, fruit, fibre, fish, antioxidants . Meat and fertility Processed meats associated with lower sperm counts Possibly a detrimental effect of red meatconcerns around, hormones, bacteria, mercury . Dairy and fertility Fertility Diet 2007- full fat dairy associated with lower risk of ovulatory infertility Concerns, steroid hormones, growth factors, chemicals- affects on folliculogenesis (IGF) High dairy protein intake lower ovarian antral follicle count but positively . Fish and fertility Remove skin, fat which concentrates chemicals Shorter time to pregnancy Better semen quality But environmental chemicals concentrated in deep sea fish . Environmental Exposures Alcohol- carcinogen, fetal alcohol syndrome Caffeine- miscarriage risk with high amounts Smoking Delay to pregnancy Increased miscarriage Men who smoke at conception, children 4 x higher risk of childhood cancer . 01.01.2022 Many of you will have read the article Is it really a job for a man? in The Australian over the weekend, referring to male obstetricians. All my male colleagues are nothing but respectful and professional. My male obstetrician was empathetic and kind. The RANZCOG has written the following to the editor in response, Nikki Gemmells article is not only inaccurate and unbalanced, it is an insult to the more than 5000 specialist obstetricians and gynaecologists, GP Obstetricians ...and RANZCOG trainees across Australia and New Zealand dedicated to providing quality womens health care. Women deserve professional, competent and compassionate doctors: these qualities are not determined by the gender or sexuality of the practitioner. Furthermore, RANZCOG doctors wanting to train in our speciality are selected on the basis of merit. Fellowship is awarded following six years of supervised training and completion of other rigorous requirements, including examination. The medical profession welcomes opinion and robust exchange of ideas in the media. However, in the same way that journalists appropriately hold our profession to account, we assert that this ill-informed and unnecessary commentary has done nothing to advance genuine discussion about the importance of high standards of practice in obstetrics and gynaecology and womens health. In fact, the vitriolic tone is demeaning to our profession and the women for whom we care. #theaustralian #theage #heraldsun #professionals #colleagues #RANZCOG #obgyn
