23.01.2022 We came across an interesting article about women, clothing choices, discrimination, and the colour black: Many actors wore "black to the 2018 Golden Globes in protest against sexual harassment within the entertainment industry and elsewhere. Not only is black the colour of grief and mourning, but it is also the colour of seriousness and self-respect and in this case the colour of solidarity. By wearing black, these actresses (and actors) are not only showing solidarity w...ith each other, but they are also showing solidarity with women in other, less glamorous work environments, who see black as the best defence they have against bias, discrimination and harassment." 18.01.2022 Shelagh Lummis is a landscape painter who lives in Newcastle, NSW, Australia. Originally from New Zealand, the environmental aesthetic of NZ and its unique topography and colour temperatures often motivate her artistic output. A strong connection with and concern for the environment, particularly the effects of climate change, drive an evolving practice which employs an expressive visual language. Avery hosts the artwork of numerous local artists, all displayed in our galler...y at 31 Watt St, Newcastle 2300. All of the artworks are for sale and all proceeds go to the artists. Some of our artists also generously pass on part of the proceeds to local charity the Mark Hughes Foundation. Please feel free to visit our practice if you wish to browse the Avery Gallery during business hours. #AveryArtGallery

12.01.2022 Predominantly known for her expressive Australian landscapes, Belinda Street’s work explores the relationship between representation and abstraction. Using abstraction, Belinda is able to expressively blend both the visual characteristics of place with personal feelings, experience and knowledge. Therefore, each painting has its own life and individuality to capture a sense of place which is personal but also speaks to the viewer. 10.01.2022 An effective anti-aging regimen should tackle several skin problems at once. The problem is, you can’t squeeze the best skin-care ingredientslike retinoids and alpha hydroxy acidsinto one bottle without causing a chemical reaction or serious irritation. Until now. Researchers at Skin Better Science have figured out a way to mix retinoids (which fade discolouration and kick up collagen production) with lactic acid (an alpha hydroxy acid that evens out skin tone and texture).... Each active ingredient is encapsulated in its own bubbles, and those bubbles are linked together to create the new ethyl lactyl retinoate molecule. When you put the cream on, the water in your skin kick-starts a release of the active ingredients that’s gradual and gentlebut effective. SkinBetter Science’s AlphaRet Overnight Cream diminishes the appearance of lines, wrinkles and discolouration. You can purchase SkinBetter Science’s AlphaRet Overnight Cream at Avery's skin bar at 31-33 Watt St, Newcastle 2300. #averyskinbar

09.01.2022 Great to see this petition being presented for Medicare to reinstate an item number for abdominoplasty surgery, clinically indicated following pregnancy and/or birth - this legitimate medical condition should be recognised as such and evidence based treatment supported.

09.01.2022 One of the questions we often get asked about breast augmentation is: "Will my weight going up and down impact the result of my breast augmentation?" Unfortunately it is likely that it will. Whether the weight gain/loss is due to pregnancy, lifestyle factors, or the impact of youth or ageing on our metabolism, the look and feel of our breasts can be affected. When women lose a significant amount of weight, the cells in the fat tissue shrink along with other fat cells in the ...individual’s body. Therefore, losing weight can have a noticeable impact on the size of the breasts, making them smaller. Similarly when women gain weight the fat cells in their breasts may enlarge thereby increasing the size of the breasts. Moreover, each time a woman gains weight or loses weight, the skin around the breast tissue may lose more of its elasticity, reducing its ability to contract to the new breast shape.

07.01.2022 For October, Breast Cancer Awareness month, we want to dedicate a space to recognise the work and the people, in particular, the researchers in our community who are committed to finding better treatments for women and men with breast cancer. Early detection is crucial to save lives, but the future of breast cancer can only be changed with research. We are very proud of what organisations and researchers in the Hunter are doing to find better ways to prevent, detect, and trea...t breast cancer, and to improve the quality of life of patients and survivors. There are many ways you can help, whether that’s through a generous donation, hosting your own fundraiser or sharing someone else's story; we encourage you to get involved and spread the word. As the battle against breast cancer has many fronts, for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we want to highlight the dedicated effort put in by some organisations in the hunter to find better ways to prevent, detect, and treat breast cancer. Current breast cancer research is testing new targeted treatments for different subtypes of breast cancer, optimal use of radiotherapy for early breast cancer, and strategies to manage long-term risk after breast cancer to prevent it recurring.
