24.01.2022 The human bodys capacity for adaptation to training is incredible

22.01.2022 As someone whose dad died of a sudden heart attack at only 47 - this is music to my ears...

22.01.2022 More redefining limits of age and exercise - love it!

21.01.2022 Great post. Very true.

20.01.2022 Sure, it's harder but here's proof that you can #stayhome and #stayactive ACSEP Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians

19.01.2022 Finally someone who gets it!! There is incredible variation in hip size, shape, angle and depth. This article is about how hip joint variations contribute to a butt-wink but the same concepts can explain why, *Freestyle swimmers have great buoyancy but no butt *Ballet dancers get labral tears... *Not everyone can reach the same Yoga poses no matter how hard they stretch See more

18.01.2022 The older I get the more Im inspired by stories like this. Movement is life (and lifelong)

17.01.2022 March 23 Update

17.01.2022 I’ve been pretty critical online about the decisions of the AFL and NRL. Let me balance that by saying that many olympic athletes are incredible people who we can all learn a lot from. Imagine sacrificing for your entire life for that one shot that comes about only every four years and seeing the goalposts suddenly shift by forces way beyond your control. Many of us mortals would find it hard not to succumb to the unfairness of it all. The few olympic athletes that I either... know or follow are so process driven and pragmatic that they have immediately reset their focus, accepted what they can’t change and have started planning towards a new goal #tokyo2021 Trent MittonTyler LovellBlair EvansDavid BryantJacob WhettonAnthony Potter

16.01.2022 Im now consulting twice a week from the Cockburn ARC. Not a bad place to start the day.

15.01.2022 Stop googling your injury - rest assured there are specialists that have been studying this stuff in depth for a very long time

15.01.2022 Pushing the boundaries of possible...... Some injuries and 100% treatable. For those that arent, we can do some amazing work-arounds to keep you active. https://www.facebook.com/saul.cortesvelazquez/videos/2233884056870677/?t=12

15.01.2022 Hip Flexor Pain BEWARE: More often from the underlying hip joint than actually from the hip flexors

14.01.2022 Q. What do Swimmers and Cruise Ships have in common? A. They both account for around 25% of our medal tally Todays tally looking a bit worse but thats partly to do with me checking the stats abut an hour later than usual as there is a considerable time-zone effect. Still well and truly in touch with the podium.... Poor Canada falling off the pace - probably shouldve built a wall on their southern border.

14.01.2022 Knee Joint Wear&Tear? Viscosupplementation is a safe, effective and vastly underutilised treatment for knee joint wear & tear. It has been proven to significantly delay the need for knee joint surgery. This article explains what it is and why it helps

13.01.2022 Sitting = the new smoking

12.01.2022 My favourite sports medicine poster of all time

12.01.2022 I normally get annoyed when my local break is crowded. But I had a great sunset surf last night and it was awesome to see so many people out there finding a way to safely exercise without close physical contact or contaminated surfaces and getting the much-needed immunity and mental health boost. Stay safe everyone. Keep isolated but keep active.

11.01.2022 Exercise & Immunity Physical activity significantly enhances immunity for bouts of exercise up to an hour at below 70% of anaerobic threshold. Keep active but avoid the following;... *close human contact while exercising (team and contact sports) *surfaces that others are regularly contacting (gym equipment) *long duration (>1hr) at high intensity (>70% threshold) It is safe to go for a run / walk / swim / paddle / surf

11.01.2022 Happiness is a practice manager who buys you brownies Cath Gomboc and a patient who turns up with coffee Emily Loughnan

10.01.2022 Please share widely amongst your health professional friends - an ACSEP Australasian College of Sport and Exercise Physicians initiative to promote exercise, mental health and self-care for those whose job it is to care.

10.01.2022 Were looking at this all wrong.... There is nothing Australians like better than challenging and beating other countries - at anything. With sport cancelled, we can look at COVID-19 stats as one big reverse medal-tally.... No point running against Italy, Spain, China and the USA (too easy) Unfortunately Singapore and Japan are out of our league. Ive comprised a group of similar countries in terms of number and growth in our group. I will be updating the medal tally daily based on figures at midnight GMT. So far were sitting in the bronze medal position but there are a few countries behind us with flatter looking curves. Cmon Australia, you can do better

09.01.2022 New research shows the development of an age-related risk profile for second ACL injuries

08.01.2022 No words. An utter disgrace.

07.01.2022 Doctor Gary Couanis - Specialist Sport & Exercise Physician will be available for appointments in Broome during July and August. appointments online at www.pert...hsportsmedicine.com.au #Broome

06.01.2022 Pretty pleased with our new website. Check it out here; https://perthsportsmedicine.com.au/

06.01.2022 Actually pretty scary........ "Australian children cannot jump as far as their parents, according to new research"

05.01.2022 Yesterday we took a bit of a dip on the "reverse medal tally". We appeared to be doing pretty well until one bloody cruise ship in NSW dropped the baton. Im calling it the reverse Bradbury. Denmark are going to be hard to catch up to now. They went from 4th to 1st overnight and have a curve almost as flat as Thorpies size 17 feet. Cmn Aussie

05.01.2022 Day 3 of the medal tally; Yesterday I said that the Ruby Princess pulled a "reverse Bradbury" on our reverse medal tally. But do you know who else pulled a reverse Bradbury? Apolo Ohno - the speedskater who fell just inches from gold.... And he went on to be an eight-time Olympic medalist. We gained ground on bronze overnight but the top two are pulling away. Still in fourth Cmon Australia you can do this..

04.01.2022 What an incredible story! Worth reading....

03.01.2022 Unfortunately, its still pretty hard for female doctors in these male-dominant sporting organisations. I cant imagine what it was like 20years ago. What this article neglects to mention is that Sharon also just happens to be a pretty terrific all-round human. Im constantly inspired by the quality of SEM physicians we have in this country. 02.01.2022 Definitely the most rewarding part of my job - helping someone who could barely walk 3yrs ago due to injury become national 400m champion and aiming for a world record attempt in the 70+ age bracket next year. Legend!
