25.01.2022 An excellent article that questions the benefit of certain orthopaedic surgeries given the lack of evidence to support them. http://nyti.ms/2aSKLrP

25.01.2022 Hi all, I'm very happy to be announcing that I'll soon be seeing patients at a new location on the clinical side of the Crossfit 187 building in Fort St John! I'm even happier to be working alongside the fantastic group of people at Fivestar as they take the reins at Crossfit 187. ... You can expect the same, high quality of treatment in a new and improved space. Stay tuned for more updates... In the meantime, if you have any questions - feel free to PM me or call the clinic at (250) 787 2806 Please share this post!

21.01.2022 At the Fort St John Tradeshow - come by with your friends and family to have your questions answered about any nagging injuries you might have!

20.01.2022 If you think maintaining a healthy weight is a simple game of calories in versus calories out - think again... 1. The pre-pregnancy weight of the mother and father matter a great deal. 2. The effects of food (and breast feeding) on gut bacteria may play a substantial role - which is affected by antibiotics.... 3. Overconsumption of sugar is a major contributor. http://well.blogs.nytimes.com//to-stem-obesity-start-bef/

20.01.2022 Stress is an inescapable reality of our daily lives. This is great video showing the number of ways in which leading a chronically stressed lifestyle can create 'issues in your tissues' - like the heart, the digestive system, the immune system, your hormones - oh and lest we forget - your muscles and joints!

19.01.2022 A great article about the recent red meat article in the press. Here's what you need to know: 1. Take this information with a pinch of salt. The effect of eating red meat on cancer risk depends on much more - like how much, how often, and what the rest of your diet consists of (also think about other behaviours like exercise levels, smoking, genetic factors etc) 2. At least in this study, red meat was associated only with colerectal cancer - not all types of cancer in general.... 3. Eating green veggies tends to offset the bad things that red meat does to your gut. 4. Moderation is more important than cutting out red meat completely. (When it comes to processed meat though - I try not to touch the stuff) (http://examine.com//scientists-just-found-that-red-meat-c/)

19.01.2022 The clinic shall be closed until August 2nd 2016. Have a great summer!

19.01.2022 "Research is showing that the pain often has nothing to do with the mechanics of the spine, but with the way the nervous system is behaving..." http://www.npr.org//pain-in-the-back-exercise-may-help-you

19.01.2022 These days 'exercise' has become a prescription - forced upon us by our failing health and perhaps the constant pressure by popular media to look a certain way. Yet, when we were younger, we never 'exercised.' We ran, jumped, swung off the monkey bars - and just played. We moved. And we enjoyed it. ... And while we did, we not only developed the resiliency of our muscles and joints - we improved our moods, our blood chemistry, our metabolism - and a host of other factors that would assure us a long and happy life. Stop exercising - and start moving in a way that just makes you feel good.

19.01.2022 If you're looking to balance your gym routine with an incredibly fun workout - or looking to get back into shape in a great environment, check out Fivestar's programs for adults and kids in Fort St. John!

18.01.2022 The author has also written a book called 'Eat Meat and Stop Jogging' (lol) https://www.t-nation.com//4-ways-modern-life-is-making-you

18.01.2022 PAIN! It is simultaneously a highly useful feature that tells us something is awry in our bodies, but also an unreliable indicator of improvement when it's not present. Instead of relying on pain to determine if your muscles and joints are healthy, start focusing on range of motion.... Any joint in the body that demonstrates a full - and controllable - range of motion - will never be painful. However, early predictors of future pain in that joint can often begin with mild restrictions in range of motion that compound over time - affect your movement - and ultimately lead to inappropriate compensations that cause pain down the road. Learn easy ways to maintain healthy range of motion in your joints and avoid the pain game.

17.01.2022 The Canadian military is experimenting with exoskeleton technology that allows for greater shock absorption around the knee while making it stronger. Besides the obvious cool factor, imagine if you had this type of technology to help you rehabilitate after an injury. But...would you also take greater risks because of it? ... http://motherboard.vice.com//canadas-military-spent-1m-on-

16.01.2022 This is a look at the great new space in the Crossfit building I'm now seeing patients at! Appointments can be booked online at drgeorge.janeapp.com - or by phone at (250) 787-2806.

16.01.2022 Veganism pitted against meat-eating can often turn into heated debates. So which one is better? If you've got a few minutes to spare, this video is well worth a watch

16.01.2022 What can spinal adjustments do for you? The effect of adjustments on your body run much, much deeper than just restoring alignment. Research suggests that adjustments have a profound effect on your central nervous system to: - improve maximum voluntary contraction... - reduce muscle fatigue - improve reaction time Think about how this might help you... https://spinalresearch.com.au/research-project-h-reflex-an/

16.01.2022 Fresh off the presses and a hot button topic all over the internet is the World Health Organization's (WHO) report that processed meat (as little as 50 grams per day) can increase your risk of cancer by 18%. It also notes limited evidence that red meat is 'probably' carcinogenic to humans. While the processed meat finding comes as no surprise to me, I think I'll continue to enjoy some occasional red meat with ample servings of colorful veggies - as part of a balanced diet. ... What do you think of these findings? And will this affect how you feed yourself or your kids? http://time.com/4086823/processed-meat-red-cancer-who/

13.01.2022 Your body is NOT a machine. And pain isn't always felt because there's something that torn, misaligned, damaged, or degenerated.

12.01.2022 "Force is the language of cells. Movement is what we say." First move well. Then move often.

10.01.2022 As if you didn't have enough reasons to quit, here's another... Smoking tends to dry out the jelly like discs (the intervertebral discs) that act like shock absorbers and transfer load through your spine. http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article

10.01.2022 It pays to get your body checked out before starting on a fitness program. 'Couch 2 5k's', Beach Body workouts and the like can be a shock to your muscles, joints, and nervous system. A quick check up identifies problem areas and will help to prevent any injuries before they occur - which means you can keep training towards your goals.

10.01.2022 Happy International Women's Day to all you amazing women out there! Growing up, my perspective of what a woman should be came of course from my mother - who remains a loving, powerful, and independent individual who was never afraid to speak her mind and fight for what she believed in. I hope all of you have as great a female role model as I did.

09.01.2022 Did you know... Prolonged use of anti-inflammatories (Motrin, Advil, naproxen, Voltaren) can put you at an increased risk for heart attack and stroke. http://www.health.harvard.edu//fda-strengthens-warning-tha

08.01.2022 Chronic muscle weakness and pain, poor sleep, brain fog, and depression are some of the symptoms of 'chronic fatigue syndrome.' Recent research suggests that the changes in metabolism seen in people diagnosed with CFS shares some similarities with a tiny animal when it enters a state of suspended animation in response to environmental stress. While far from a causal relationship, it might suggest the profound effect that stress (physical and emotional) - and our response to... it - has on our bodies in the long term. http://www.economist.com//21706241-new-test-may-diagnose-m

08.01.2022 If doctors are beginning to question the use of prescription opioids to treat pain, shouldn't you? Today, modern musculoskeletal medicine can not only offer more lasting relief without the use of drugs - perhaps more importantly - it can prevent these problems from becoming debilitating in the first place. http://edition.cnn.com//us-surgeon-general-lett/index.html

08.01.2022 As technology improves, we're developing even better ways to image the human body! http://time.com//body-scanner-high-definition-general-el/

08.01.2022 The goal of a workout program shouldn't be soreness, but progression. Soreness might be a side-effect - but weekly progression in some form (increased weight/reps/sets, reduced rest times, etc) will give you the results you're looking for.

05.01.2022 Fitness and activity trackers are everywhere. They tell you how much to walk, how much to sleep, and how great (or not) that last workout was. But are they also robbing you of your innate ability to discover these things for yourself - and in doing so develop a closer relationship with your own body? While health related technology certainly has its place, don't be so quick to outsource your health to a collection of circuits. They will never know your body as well as you do.
