25.01.2022 I've always wanted to do some research on Septimus Power, an official WW1 artist who grew up in Adelaide. Here for this feature I've set his work alongside that of Alfred J. Munnings and found some striking echoes. 'Commemorating the war horse' in this Month's Horses and People magazine.

20.01.2022 Not the sort of gas recovery ScoMo had in mind? Big shout out to Phil, who attended our last tour of Martindale Hall, Mintaro, Clare Valley, in August, and whose indefatigable research into the technologies of country houses showed me that the atmospheric gas system first installed there in 1879 ran the lights using a mix of petrol and air! For you footy fans as well a snip of the world's first floodlit football game.1878. I know. It looks like the aliens have landed. #martindalehall

19.01.2022 Join me in celebrating the re-opening of Carrick Hill with 'Frock up and Rock Up at Carrick Hill' a scholarly, but entertaining tour of the art collection and interiors on Sunday Feb 14. Tour will be led with me in an Ursula Hayward inspired outfit to suit the heyday of the House ('50s, 60s and early 70s). This tour will explore the history of the house, the lives of Ursula and Bill Hayward, their British/Australian/French art collection, and a room by room exploration of the...ir decor, to be topped off by either a gin or softie at Ursula's Gin Bar. You can either wear 'one old thing' or go the full vintage; but a complementary gin will be on the cards for best outfit. Like and follow for further details and booking details. Pic of myself and the lovely Erina at Carrick Hill doing our '50s thing. InteriorAdelaide tours will be also announcing this year's program of trips to the heritage interior 'jewels' of SA - Carrick Hill, Government House, Anlaby, Martindale Hall and Nunyara Open Air TB Clinic, over 2021. 10.01.2022 Having been on the show to talk about the history of rooms and my book 'Domestic Interiors: Representing homes from the Victorians to the Moderns' I try to always catch ABCRN's 'Blueprint for Living'; its remit -- architecture, design and domesticity also being my own as an academic. Overjoyed this am to hear Jonathon talking to the author of a new book on Freud's couch -- author a very funny guy. Really good. https://www.abc.net.au//a-repressed-history-of-th/12502858

10.01.2022 Absurdly excited to hear there's a new book out in my research area (domesticity and the representation of home). Thank you Phillip Adams. I was agog. https://www.abc.net.au//laten/the-lives-of-houses/12435322

10.01.2022 Be fascinated at this marvel of a mansion! then treat yourself to lunch and some wine tourism in the Clare Valley; its just the weather at last for road trips, and gathering under dappled sunlight on a mid north mini-break.

09.01.2022 At the Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize show at the SA Museum. Some of my picks for the People's Prize; a lovely, thoughtful show that helped me forget for a moment about the year we've all just had.

08.01.2022 Women were not allowed to attend the École des Beaux-Arts (School of Fine Arts) until 1897! In Adelaide at the School of Design they were admitted from the 'get-go'; 1861.

05.01.2022 Busy writing my new chapter on the art of air raid damage in relation to the 'home' during the London Blitz, and I shouldn't be, its a rabbit hole, but I am SO falling in love with Army poster designer Abram Games' work. He really was brilliant. So ahead of his time. the last poster 'Your Britain, Fight for it Now' was developed in response to the fact that a full 10% of British children during the war grew up with Ricketts disease.

05.01.2022 ABCRN's art show has also been asking listeners what they think art is. Love this definition from a 7 year old boy "it's what you make with your hands and put on your cupboard". Awww. That actually covers rather a lot of it.

05.01.2022 Culture Dose; what a great idea, and btw am LOVING this gorgeous bird by Louise Weaver, it is really brightening my day; much needed bit of cheer as I sit here working on a book chapter about the bombed interior during the London Blitz.

04.01.2022 Lovely to hear the inimitable John Kaldor on ABCRN Art show this morning. His career has spanned organising Christo's Wrapped Coastline via telegrams, to the digital age with current public project Do It, where artists send digital instructions for everyday Australians to make an artwork http://doit.kaldorartprojects.org.au/

04.01.2022 Love The Shovel's play on some pretty powerful ideas about domestic space as a site both potent, poetic, political, and satirical.

01.01.2022 Next Tour! Friday 2 October: Explore the healing power of architectural space and landscape. Dr Julie Collins author of new study 'The Architecture of Health' says; "Before we had pharmaceuticals and bio medicine, really ‘place’ was one of the only ways we could prevent and counter the spread of communicable diseases. And we're still using 'place' albeit differently, to stop the spread of Covid.
