24.01.2022 More fundamentally important root cause autism research from Richard Frye and colleagues - Early life metal exposure dysregulates cellular bioenergetics in children with regressive autism spectrum disorder https://www.nature.com/articles/s41398-020-00905-3

23.01.2022 Green tea polyphenols reduce leaky gut and inflammation due to gluten exposure. In this in vitro study, researchers found that green tea polyphenols prevent leaky gut due to gluten exposure by binding to the gliadin component of gluten. This prevented digestion of gluten, and the binding of gluten to receptors on cells. We don't believe this is cause for people with Celiac disease to start chowing on gluten with green tea. But it does support the overall benefit in consumin...g green tea for gut health. It may also help prophylactically, in the even of accidental ingestion of gluten. Green tea polyphenols appear to have several features that promote a healthy microbiome, and thus, a healthy gut. For those worried about caffeine, they used decaffeinated green tea in this study. https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com//am/10.1002/mnfr.201700879

20.01.2022 Nutrition is so important when we are thinking about Corona Virus ".. since a pro-inflammatory state may worsen COVID-19 prognosis, [and therefore] modulating systemic inflammation through dietary modification may be efficacious in improving the clinical sequelae of COVID-19." At TACGA, we have a huge focus on modulating inflammation through DNA analysis, reducing gut inflammation and also by improving dietary habits to suit the individual (no cookie cutter Nutrition advice in this clinic :) ). This is incredibly useful for inflammatory conditions like autoimmune disease and autism, but also for coronavirus. More on inflammation, corona virus and cancer in this new article in the Nutrition & Cancer Journal: https://www.tandfonline.com//10.1080/01635581.2020.1797126

18.01.2022 Your body builds it's weaponry using building blocks from the diet and the environment (like the sun). Good stuff in= good defence mechanisms. "In this scenario, this review raises the possibility of using immunonutrition to improve immune response of individuals affected by COVID-19." https://rsdjournal.org/index.php/rsd/article/view/7115

17.01.2022 Hi Australia, The Federal Government is seeking information for a review about autism in Australia. It is vital that the experiences of autistic people and their families are heard. Please complete the survey below to help make this happen. ... The Australian Autism Alliance, a group of 12 organisations from across Australia, is working on a submission to the Federal Senate’s Select Committee on Autism. The Select Committee on Autism has been established to look into and report on the services, support and life outcomes for autistic people in Australia. It is also considering the need for a National Autism Strategy, which the Alliance advocated for during the 2019 Federal Election and our Change 4 Autism Manifesto. To inform the submission, the Autism Alliance is conducting a consultation with autistic people (aged 18+) and family members and carers, to ask them about their experiences. This consultation includes a survey that opens for contributions today. The information that is collected will be submitted and will play a crucial role in shaping future policy and services for the autism community. So please grab a cuppa and share your experiences, concerns, what supports and services may be working for you. The survey will take around 30 minutes depending on how many details you provide. 15.01.2022 Our knowledge of the microbiome and its contribution to brain development is excitingly expanding! In our clinic, we fully genetically sequence the large intestinal flora as is done in some of the big studies, and make recommendations on how this flora can be influenced positively. This is especially crucial in the very young years in kids on the spectrum, when the brain has lots of plasticity and our influence is the highest. Don't worry though, older kids and adults still get lots of benefit from doing this too <3 https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-020-72386-9

12.01.2022 And here we thought scurvy (severe Vitamin C deficiency famous for disabling sailors hundreds of years ago....) was a thing of the past in the west! Children on the spectrum can sometimes have significant fussy eating behaviours and genetic glitches which makes them far more prone to uncommon deficiencies. We can help with all of these issues :) ... https://www.sciencedirect.com//a/abs/pii/S0736467920309720

11.01.2022 Nutrigenomics offers some new and fresh solutions for solving conundrums like childhood obesity and related risks, even from in utero. Nutrigenomics...may "present a rich opportunity to identify shared and overlapping biological pathways and ultimately, to link these pathways to modifiable environmental exposures or behaviors as one potential route to the holy grail of primary prevention." https://www.mdpi.com/2218-1989/10/6/235/htm

10.01.2022 Ever wondered exactly how the gut microbiome influences allergy and eczema development? Or how to change that to reduce the incidence of allergy and eczema? Here is a nice review of the topic: https://www.termedia.pl/The-microbiome-and-its-impact-on-fo How do you change it though? We know how to do that :) The gut can be genetically sequenced to show what kind of organisms, short chain fatty acids and nutrients it is a home to. Once we know what's in there, we can influence it to correct the imbalances, the digestive system and nutrient absorption and of course reduce gut and systemic inflammation.

08.01.2022 70% of food eaten by school children is high processed. Most of the energy derived from school lunches are from highly processed snack foods and desserts. It's no wonder a lot of our children can't focus and come home absolutely exhausted! ... We have so much useful information to help your child thrive at school and in life. Nutrition isn't hard, and when you know better you do better. https://www.sciencedirect.com//a/abs/pii/S2212267220309321

08.01.2022 We can assess mitochondrial issues from a multitude of angles. Mitchondrial dysfunction has been linked to ASD, autoimmune conditions and chronic infections amongst many others. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/32600237/

04.01.2022 Have you ever noticed that many kids on the spectrum have low muscle tone? It is one of most common early signs of ASD. More SHANK3 news! SHANK3 gene (as talked about below and in our Dr. Heather's fabulous A1 talk) has been linked to this issue. We analyse SHANK3 with all our autism genetic panels and there are heaps of strategies for low muscle tone!
