20.01.2022 DRILL HALL FILM SOCIETY, MULLUMBIMBY CRACKERS (1998) Special Christmas presentation with Q&A with lead actor Daniel Kellie, who played young Joey, and Director ...David Swann. Come and join us with a complimentary celebratory bubbly and Christmas fare on Sunday December 15 at 2pm (doors open 1.30). If you wish to attend please book by ringing 66842112 (booking is necessary for catering purposes) David Swann’s 1998 movie Crackers has larceny, adultery, sabotage and treachery. Yes, just your typical Aussie Christmas with the Dredge family! Thirteen-year-old Joey Dredge is in trouble again. Expelled for jumping off the school roof, he’s haunted by his father’s death and hates his mother’s new boyfriend and his bullying son. Compounding his misery is the knowledge he has to spend Christmas with them at the family beach house. Things look grim until the unexpected arrival of great-grandfather Albert (Warren Mitchell), fresh from a stint in prison. Forced to share the back shed with this swearing, farting and devious octogenarian, Joey’s life changes. Between barbecuing the family dog, performing a self-burial and causing his intended step-father to consume a startling amount of hash, Joey learns a few life lessons from Albert, who despite his many vices may give Joey the strength to accept the past and embrace the future.
19.01.2022 Hot Shorts 2019 1st - 10th November ONLY 6 PERFORMANCES Book Now at https://www.drillhalltheatre.org.au... The Drill Hall Theatre Company is proud to present, yet again, another season of cutting-edge and oh-so-new shorts so hot, we cannot wait to set them free in the wild to be viewed (and judged) by you. Hot Shorts 2019 brings comedy, drama, farce and all topics (personal, political and social) to the fore. In keeping with the Drill Hall Theatre Company’s commitment to community involvement, the plays are being produced by people from across the Northern Rivers region, showcasing some of the best theatrical talent the region has to offer as well as some actors 'treading the boards' for the first time. All the short plays are locally written, each with something to say on so many levels (tempting, teasing and tantalising the imagination). Each has been carefully selected (eight finalists from thirty-six entries) and they are now ready to be performed, viewed and judged. As in the past, audience members will get to vote for their favourite plays, and prizes will be awarded at the final performance. Hot Shorts 2019 opens on Friday, November 1 at The Drill Hall, 4 Jubilee Avenue, Mullumbimby and will run for two weekends, up to November 10. Friday and Saturday performances are at 7.30pm and Sunday performances at 2pm, with doors open beforehand for a snack and a libation. Organise a group and get involved as an audience supporting our local writers, directors and actors Tickets can be obtained from The Bookshop, Mullumbimby or through The Drill Hall Theatre Company website: https://www.drillhalltheatre.org.au
18.01.2022 If you haven't seen this movie, you should join us at the Drill Hall this Sunday 23 February at 2pm. If you have seen it then you know that it is well worth seeing again. It's a great movie - don't miss it! HUNT FOR THE WILDERPEOPLE A big-hearted picture full of small, understated moments of magic, the New Zealand-based comedy-drama Hunt for the Wilderpeople is an off-kilter charmer. Directed by Taika Waititi (co-director of What We Do in the Shadows), this film downplays t...he broad laughs of its predecessor, instead focusing on the emotional thrust of a mismatched buddy movie. Equal parts road comedy and rousing adventure story, director Taika Waititi masterfully weaves lively humour with emotionally honest performances by Sam Neill and Julian Dennison. Gradually, the two rejected loners, who only had Bella in common, find a kinship, united against the authorities that hunt them down. 14.01.2022 Public Act Theatre presents The World's Wife at the Mullumbimby Drill Hall Theatre this Saturday 4th January at 7pm. Following on from the sold-out success at T...he Byron Theatre on Dec 11th, Public Act Theatre are very excited to announce their encore theatre performance of ‘The World’s Wife’ at The Drill Hall Theatre this coming January! A series of poems and dramatic monologues written by Carol Ann Duffy and directed by Philippa Williams. This is a unique collection of satirical poems from the erstwhile Poet Laureate, filled with her characteristic wit, which is a feminist classic and a modern take on age-old mythology. It gives the women of ancient history, the unsung women of myth, fairytale and culture, a glorious and powerful voice. from Mrs Freud, Mrs Icarus, Mrs Aesop along with many other ‘wives’ who join their voices with Medusa, Delilah, and Salome to tell it as it really was. Join us on Saturday 4th January 7pm 2020 at The Drill Hall Theatre for a witty, satirical, provocative and playful production of ‘The World’s Wife’. 12.01.2022 Hi folks, We hope you’re all travelling well in these tricky times. Like everyone else, we were caught out by the swiftness of the onset of Covid-19 restrictions and to date, we haven’t been able to re-organize our season as we have to wait and see how the situation develops. We very much hope to mount one or two productions this year, but as long as social distancing remains in place this is just not practical. We also think it unwise at the moment to open before September ...because of the added strain of winter and the normal flu season. I don’t want to make any promises as to dates as the situation remains too volatile. Please know that we are very much still here and raring to go. We will let you know as soon as possible the plans for the rest of this year. Wishing you all the very best from the whole board of the Drill Hall Theatre Company. Liz Chance, Artistic Director
