22.01.2022 Today our Bill to ban wheel clamping in Western Australia will be put before Parliament for consideration. Despite the massive impact of COVID-19, we promised t...o introduce this legislation as soon as possible - and today we are delivering on that promise. We've heard too many horror stories from across Western Australia about the appalling and predatory behaviour of 'wheel clampers' - and we know that our community is fed up with it. The new legislation will mean the use of wheel clamps to enforce payment or the collection of parking charges on private property will be banned. It will end the practice of ‘wheel clampers’ sitting and waiting for opportunities to clamp parked vehicles to coerce payments. The new legislation will protect the rights of land owners and small businesses, to allow for infringements as normal. As a matter of last resort vehicle removal procedures could occur, but costs will be capped. Work is progressing on additional regulations which will govern how towing can be used, with community consultation underway.
