21.01.2022 Our environment is something that a lot of us take for granted and in recent times we hear regularly of the damage our waste produce and lifestyle are having on it, globally. While making changes for a greener lifestyle can sometimes be inconvenient and more costly, it is important that we all make the effort to reduce our pollution output. Here at Drive Accident Solutions, we have made some small changes to play our part in at least improving some of the aspects of the dail...y running of operations. 1. Bio-retention basin: Surrounding the buildings exterior, a moat collects storm and groundwater that flows into a bio-retention filter. The water that flows into the filter is passed through three layers of sandy loam, coarse and granular material that removes anything in the water. Once the filtered water reaches the bottom of the basin it is returned to the water system which in our case, is the creek located at the back of the building. 2. Auto-baler: This machine compacts all our recyclable material such as hard plastic and cardboard, compacting them into dense bales. These bales are then recycled. 3. Waterborne paint: Many of the sprays and paints used by body work shops contain harmful solvents that have VOCs (volatile organic compounds), which are released and can have long and short term affects on the health of both humans and wildlife. Glasurit Waterborne paint, which we use here at Drive Accident Solutions, coating material is suspended in the water carrier(polymer), instead of having the coating material dissolved in solvents. After the coating is applied, the water evaporates, leaving the coating material. This reduces the amount of harmful solvents from between 55%-90% less then that of other paints.

Oakleigh State School in Ashgrove held their Spring Fair last Saturday, and it was a massive success! The event brought so much of the community together to enjoy what Oakleigh has to offer. Isabella chose the Smash Repair industry because her grandfather, uncle and cousin were all panel beaters, so she wanted to continue the family line of panel beaters. 15.01.2022 School Based Apprentice Jack Middlemass is our only school-based apprentice at Drive Accident Solutions. The way a school-based traineeship works is, Jack continues to attend school for 4 days, then trains on the job in our workshop on the 5th day. When Jack finishes his secondary education, he will also have completed a significant portion of the first year of his apprenticeship. Jack works full time with Drive Accident Solutions over the school holidays. Every 6 weeks his i...nstructor will come onsite to complete some training tasks with him. Jack and his dad, Jason, both work as Panel Beaters at Drive Accident Solutions. Jack feels that it is beneficial having Jason here to help him and be involved in his training. He says he loves working in such a nice and welcoming environment, everyone is so helpful and easy to get along with. Jack feels that completing his school-based apprenticeship with Drive Accident Solutions is an amazing opportunity. Advantages of school-based apprenticeships and traineeships More flexibility and variety The variety provided by SATs can have enormous benefits for young people who prefer hands-on learning to traditional schooling pathways. Head start in a career Young people employed as school-based apprentices and trainees develop workplace skills, knowledge and confidence and have a competitive edge when applying for jobs. A SAT can lead directly to full-time employment once a student has left school. Nationally recognised qualification All school-based apprentices and trainees participate in vocational training that contributes to a Certificate II, III or higher vocational qualification which can count towards the students QCE. An opportunity to learn and earn School-based apprentices and trainees are paid while they learn workplace skills, gain confidence, and adapt to a work environment. It gives the student the opportunity to put skills learnt at school and the training organisation, into practice in a real work environment. Contributing to the community Employers who take on school-based apprentices and trainees can make a real difference by motivating young people to work towards their future goals and giving them realistic exposure to the industry or sector. 05.01.2022 We would like to wish the very best of luck to Chris, Ange, Maddie and Riley who, at the weekend are facing into an Iron man, half Iron man and Iron kids. They have all trained tirelessly to achieve the stamina required to complete this challenge. Heres a short article written about Chris (Chairman of the Carcraft Qld board) from Ben Chesterfield who is Carcraft Qld. general manager. Chris Manteit ... Chairman Carcraft Queensland. Everybody has a side away from the body repair industry, and Chris Manteit is no different. Some may argue that the bump and grind of our industry would be easier than the bump and grind that Chris puts himself through, however it is certainly paying off for the next would Ironman. Chris is up and training whilst the rest of us are still enjoying our beauty sleep each morning. With a schedule that starts by 4am each day Chris puts his body through more exercise each week than a lot of us would do in a year. A 60-70km bike ride, a 4-5km swim and then adds a short run of around 40kms. To add to this, he also runs his own business, Drive Accident Solutions and attends to the requirements of Car Craft Qld, with there being something to attend to every day. Chris recently completed (smashed) Half Ironman Port Macquarie with a time of 5hrs 14mins, this entailed a 1.9km swim, followed by a 90km bike ride and finished up with a 21.1km run, (just typing this makes me tired), and is currently in training for his first full Ironman ( which is double these distances) in Cairns this Sunday. It is not just Chris that puts himself through this torture, it is a Manteit family affair with Angela also doing the womans half Ironman events, and the kids Riley and Maddie doing the Ironkids events too. We wish Chris all the best with his next contest.
