Local rescue organisations Albury Wodonga Animal Rescue (AWAR) and Dunroaminpets INC are always looking for Foster carers. They have a range of animals from kittens to adult cats, puppies to adult dogs, seniors and also some animals that have special medical requirements. Animals are placed with compatible Foster carers so they can enjoy the loving environment that they will hope to find soon with their forever family. . . Rescues need a range of foster carer environments, some with no other pets, some with only dogs or only cats, some with small kids - others without young kids at home. . . If you have space in your heart and home to help out by Fostering please contact Dunroamin (Dunroamin.org.au) or AWAR (awar.org.au) to find out if you can help. . . 23.01.2022 We are seeing a surge in Pet ownership, increased adoptions through AWAR and Dunroamin and a reduction in the number of animals surrendered as well. Seems this is fairly consistent with what’s happening wider than our region as well. . For those of you who don’t know Dr Jana also works in the Curtin Veterinary clinic in Canberra and they are seeing similar as well as the RSPCA in Canberra. . .... This is great news for our Pets. However, as we see border restrictions ease and we are starting to return to work - be mindful that we need to set our Pets up for success for this transition. It’s a big change for them from having Mum and/or dad home 6-8 hours a day then suddenly less or nothing. . What can you do to set them up for success? . . Wean into this transition if possible. Gradually increase the time you are away from the house. Enrich their environment with stimulation - toys, hidden food rewards. Spent some dedicated time with them at the beginning of the day to fill up their emotional cups. Pet proof your home or area where they will be living so you don’t come home to any nasty surprises. Leave them with something that smells like you OR their own bed/safe place. Call home during lunchtime to see them - or take up the services of someone like FurMumma to call in and play with them during the day. She was very brave and had some of her teeth removed and blood work showed she is tracking very well. . . Pippa is also being managed for arthritic pain. Tara gained her first job in 2009 with Dr Jana as a trainee veterinary nurse. She completed her certificate IV through NMIT in 2010. In 2013 Tara opened her own retail confectionery business, wanting to take a new path, learn new skills and gain new experiences. . 06.01.2022 Meet the Team . . . Belinda. Senior Vet Nurse.... . . Originally from Ballarat, Belinda began Veterinary Nursing in 1996 in a very busy 17-vet practice. This provided a wonderful platform to gain a broad skill set, and fostered her special interest in surgery and critical care. Belinda also worked in Melbourne at The Lort Smith Animal Hospital (Rescue Hospital) before meeting her husband and moving to Albury Wodonga in 2005. . . Working locally, Belinda decided to move into the corporate sector, and spent 11 years with a multi-national company performing companion animal health and nutritional research and development. Opportunity beckoned when the Hub opened and Belinda joined our fabulous vet team. . . She has completed her certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing and has developed a particular focus on surgical nursing. To compliment this interest Liz plans to complete further study into post surgical physiotherapy and recovery support for these patients. . . As a social butterfly, she enjoys engaging with the community and their pets and has a particular soft spot for puppies. Liz is very enthusiastic about supporting owners to set their pups up for success! . . . 04.01.2022 Meet Honey . . . She became very sick one afternoon this week and Dr. Sally was worried she may have an intestinal obstruction. .... . After some medical treatment including anti-emetics and fluid therapy Honeys vomiting stopped and the blockage we could feel was moving through on xrays... . . Honey was back to her normal happy self. . . We are very lucky to be able to hold classes of 6 pets due to the large size of our reception area - still complying with social distancing requirements. . . This is a 4 week course run collaboratively between the Veterinary staff @ THE HUB and the Dog Education Centre. Not only will you and your pup have access to a trainer and our Veterinary staff but you also get access to the Dog Education Centre ‘Online training Academy’, which has loads of training resources. . Requirements: Your pup must have had their first vaccination (bring your vaccination card to the first class) . Puppies must be between 6 and 16 weeks of age when the course commences . 04.01.2022 We checked out a white mark on this little kitten’s eyes by placing some fluoroscein stain into the eyes. We then look under a Woods lamp, which is ultraviolet light. . . If there’s any damage to the cornea (surface of the eye) the green stain will show up in the middle. 02.01.2022 . . Blood donor awareness . . .... We got the call this week that there was a critical patient in the hospital, who needed an urgent blood transfusion. . . Have you ever wondered how this is done in Veterinary Medicine?. . . We use blood donors, who are all up to date with their preventative medicine, over 25kg and fit and healthy. . . As is so happens, Georgia is our blood donor. She was rushed over to THE HUB, and donated 450ml of blood. . . This was her first blood donation with the Team and she was perfect. She trusts Dr. Sally, Dr. Levi and the Team working with her so much that she had big cuddles the whole time from mum and did not require any sedation. . . We then tested Georgia’s blood and were able to transfuse this into the recipient. . . Georgia was a rescue dog, and now she is a life saver . . .
