23.01.2022 Having an arthritic joint is no fun. So, once you decide to progress with a surgery, you’ll need to elect how your procedure will be funded via the public health system, through a health fund or self-funded by you. In the public hospital system Dr Young performs the operation or he assists a trainee surgeon (the Registrar) to do the operation. If you join a health fund with the view of pursuing a hip or knee replacement you must remember that there are usually qualify...ing periods of at least 12 months. Patients without private health insurance can also self-fund their surgery in a private hospital. Dr Young performs the surgery and provides the aftercare. Performed at the Royal Newcastle Centre, the successful surgery used the innovative apparatus, which is a cemented double-tapered stem manufactured in highly polished stainless steel.
