25.01.2022 Many of our younger patients learn to knit, sew and crochet for the very first time in our practice. They share stories, bond and build beautiful relationships in our waiting room. Sometimes, more magic happens here than can ever happen in my consult room. #positivesocialimpact
24.01.2022 A profound view of what life is really like as a doctor, and the limitations of the health care system in delivering care that is centred around the patient, rather than the doctor. It also does well to highlight the humiliation and bullying that junior doctors face early in their career. The take home-point is that the health care system was created for people, by people. Therefore, it can be changed by people. Lets work together to restore the humanity to health care.
24.01.2022 #SundayMotivation - Read for half an hour a day! Ask me how. If you havent met him yet, Id like you to meet Jim Rohn through his wonderful Audible book, The Art of Exceptional Living. A great breakdown of what it means to live a good life - in health, wealth, relationships, education and financial independence. If you learn nothing else, then know this. An investment in your personal growth is critical to success, and the best way to do it is by reading books.... Commit today to reading for half an hour a day. Not just in your field of specialty. Adopt diverse academic interests, learn about something that surprises you, excites you, moves you, helps you to develop a broader lens of the universe. Teach what you have learnt to others. Stimulate your mind and inspire others. 23.01.2022 Is it enough to heal? A reflective piece on why health care professionals must step up to their role as leaders and partners, why Shifting Gears to better engage consumers makes sense, and what it means to collaborate in todays health care environment. 22.01.2022 You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something -- your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life. Steve Jobs.... Happy new year - #2019.

22.01.2022 We must live our lives to a higher standard. The standard we set for ourselves must makes us feel uncomfortable. If the standard you set for yourself allows you to feel comfortable, you must re-evaluate the bar you set for yourself. #davidgoggins #growth #motivation #keepitreal #workhard #mindset #mentaltoughness #greatbooks
21.01.2022 Sage advice from Michael Porter on value-based health care delivery. CHOICE & COMPETITION for patients are powerful forces to encourage continuous improvement in value and restructuring of care. The fundamental goal of economic policy is to enhance competitiveness, which is reflected in the productivity with which a nation or region utilizes its people, capital, and natural endowments to produce valuable goods and services.... 19.01.2022 Good morning all! Super excited to be presenting at the AMA (NSW) Conference Centre on the evening of Wednesday 17th April. Ill be speaking about some of the amazing data linkage work that my PHN, WentWest Ltd is doing, and exploring how we can use data to drive quality improvement in health care. Last minute registrations are still available, dont miss out!... Ill also be asking the group: 1) How do you currently use data in your practice? 2) What opportunities exist within your practice that you may not currently be availing, but would like to? What do you see as the barriers? 3) How would knowing about your patients hospital data, such as number and frequency of admissions, help you better serve your patients? #datadrivenimprovement #healthcare #technology #bettercare #healthoutcomes
19.01.2022 An ode to a true legend - standing ovation for our visionary leader and CEO, Walter Kmet at the GP Leaders Dinner yesterday evening. Moment brilliantly captured by Brendan Peek. Walter has had an incredible impact on health that has extended far beyond our local patch in western Sydney. His leadership style blends the perfect mix of compassion, hope, vision, transparency, camaraderie, honesty, vulnerability and courage. He is both a strategist and alchemist, and over the past... few years Ive seen him generate personal, organisational and social transformation beyond anything any of us could have imagined. Walter, we cant thank you enough for all that you have done for us. I was filled with joy listening to my colleagues talk about the extraordinary impact youve had on all of our lives, as a friend, mentor and confidant. All the best for your next venture! WentWest Ltd
18.01.2022 Most of us go through our entire lives without ever being taught how to learn. Jim Kwik, founder of Kwik Brain, is changing that. A childhood head injury left Jim struggling at school. That is, until Jim found ways in which he could boost his operating system, his brain, through simple mind hacks. Jim is now on a mission to create a smarter and more caring world and help people to reach their full brain potential. http://drsaini.com.au//love-to-learn-hack-your-brain-with/

15.01.2022 Defining quality of medical care. This book, written by W Edwards Deming, Out of the Crisis was gifted to me by my mentor. Whilst this specific quote relates to an example in dentistry, this could so easily relate across the spectrum of specialities and sub specialties in health care. Telling quote, Dentists resist the idea of being evaluated... The other vital element here is that inferior care, such as failing to consistently deliver preventative health care, may not be recognised until years after it is delivered, and so our patients are seldom in a position to make informed judgements. #definequality #qualityimprovement #healthcare #deming #quality

12.01.2022 In the latest episode of the Bridge Builders Health Care Collaboration Podcast, Dr Edwin Kruys and I had the pleasure of interviewing Dr Wendy Burton. In addition to working as a GP, Dr Burton works at a local, state and national level in the maternity and early childhood space. For Dr Burton, maternity matters and she has an extraordinary perspective on what were doing well, what we could be doing better and how we can move forward to provide care that is more inclusive, pe...rson-centred, comprehensive, coordinated, continuous, accessible and compassionate. 10.01.2022 My colleagues put forward a good point yesterday. That is, if our leaders have slowed down in their change management efforts, how can we expect others to strive towards quality improvement and meaningful reform? Heres my response: Some of us are comfortable walking in the footsteps of others. But I dare you. I dare you to walk your own path. I dare you to live life on your own terms. 06.01.2022 I have to say - this is the best non-sexy, totally-doable guide to healthy living that Ive seen. It may also be the only one of its kind. In any case, worth reading if youre genuinely interested in taking steps to improve your health. Dr Kevin Yong : Eat Move Chill, I love the concepts you explore here, including how we can tame our lizard brain.
06.01.2022 Dr Edwin Kruys and I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing Dr Wendy Burton yesterday for the next edition of the Bridge Builders Podcast. Dr Burton is incredibly passionate about shared maternity care, and the many benefits it has for women before, during and after pregnancy. A central theme of our conversation was continuity of care - general practitioners provide care across generations, and have an incredibly valuable role in providing exceptional maternity care.... Well be launching the next episode of the podcast soon, watch this space! I also encourage you all to visit Dr Burtons website, Maternity Matters, for amazing information regarding pregnancy care. https://maternity-matters.com.au #fromgoodtogreat

05.01.2022 The recent implementation of My Health Record by the Australian Digital Health Agency (ADHA), though well intended, has been met with a mixed reception. 04.01.2022 Reflecting on the words of my mentor, role model and wonderful friend, Dr Michael Crampton. We often speak about #culture in #medicine and #healthcare. Culture is created by people, and we make choices every day about what impact we have on the people we meet, and the systems within which we work. I found Dr Cramptons words of encouragement incredibly energising, and reflect on the influence he has had on my career so far. An accelerator indeed, he has made a decision to def...ine the culture in which his junior colleagues, such as me, practice. Not only did he facilitate my love and passion for general practice, but he also helped me commit to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Dr Crampton is an incredible driving force for my own career in medical education. One day, I want to be able to say that I have left the world better than it was when I entered it. So my message for you today is - think carefully about the difference you are making to the lives of everyone you meet. Remind yourself, culture begins with me and so with everything you do, make sure it is taking you further towards creating a better world.

01.01.2022 This is what I saw when I entered my #gym this morning. This sort of #activation is missing in the industry that needs it the most - #healthcare. Its time to evolve. Signals that the world is ready for a new #era in health care. Time to #breaktherules and #disrupt the industry.
