20.01.2022 This is so true and important to discuss openly and often. Mothers with young children and school aged kids are feeling the pinch. They could almost be considered ‘front liners. Distress is when we do not cope well with the number and intensity of demands expected of us. Coronavirus places extra demands on everyone and very particular demands on mothers. Learning useful coping mechanisms is now more important than ever and relaxation techniques are evidence-based skills to cope better with distress. Dr Judy Lovas conducts small Relaxation Classes in Northbridge. Term 3 starts on September 1. Contact Judy at [email protected] or visit https://artandscienceofrelaxation.com/relaxation.html

20.01.2022 Who is not interested in how stress, inflammation and depression are linked? The exciting news is that I've developed an up-to-date 2.5 hour module 'Psychoneuroimmunology of Depression' for psychologists, counsellors, health and medical professionals. It's available live next Wednesday 16 September with PDP. Our understanding of links between cognition, stress, immunity and depression is growing rapidly and this latest knowledge is important in best practice. This is the first of three modules that include 'Diaphragmatic Breathing for Anxiety' and 'Guided Imagery for Chronic Conditions'. To learn more please visit the website of The Professional Development People https://www.pdp-catalogue.com.au//psychoneuroimmunology-pn

19.01.2022 In association with the The Professional Development People today I launched the first of my new modules called Psychoneuroimmunology of Depression. 18.01.2022 Like many professions, medicine and healthcare have had to adapt to a new pandemic as well as its’ consequences. Studies are examining physical and psychological impacts of the virus and how health care is adapting to an increase in chronic conditions, such as anxiety and sleep disorders. The Australian Government Department of Health recognises and approves of non-pharmacological psychological strategies used by mental health professionals. Relaxation techniques are included in the list of approved focussed psychological strategies and are slowly, perhaps too slowly, being integrated into healthcare today. 15.01.2022 A little reassurance can make a big difference. When my kids were in primary school, I passed another mother who was struggling to get her toddler into the car seat. I couldn’t do much to help with him but from experience, I knew reassurance can work wonders. As she leaned in to the car, I gave her back a gentle rub and thought nothing more about it. Weeks later, she said how that simple reassurance made all the difference in the moment. After asking someone if they are ok,... we can offer reassurance in many ways. A pat on the back, a smile, an acknowledgement, words of encouragement or a moment to listen. A little reassurance can make a big difference. #RUOKDay #theresmoretosay #RUOK

10.01.2022 Parental Burnout is different to Job Burnout or Depression New research in the journal Clinical Psychological Science identifies a growing incidence of parental burnout. Parental burnout is different to clinical depression or job burnout, and encompasses three distinct symptoms that separate parental burnout from other conditions. They are exhaustion, detachment and inefficiency. The demands of parenting due to home schooling, weekend sports and fewer non-working parents, ha...ve steadily increased in recent years, and particularly in 2020. It ultimately results in parents feeling depleted and inadequate. One way to break this cycle of parental burnout is to learn simple relaxation skills that requires only a few minutes each day. Dr Judy Lovas teaches people how to relax for 2 to 4 minutes a day and gain the cumulative benefits for chronic conditions and parental burnout. https://artandscienceofrelaxation.com/ #relaxation #mentalhealth #parents #burnout #health

07.01.2022 Practicing What They Recommend! Doctors, psychologists, exercise physiologists, yoga teachers and other professionals of Osana.Care in Sydney practiced what they recommend to patients. This session enabled the busy, hardworking staff to experience Relaxation Therapy for themselves and reinforce their understanding of how a few minutes of relaxation daily, can benefit mental health and physical wellbeing. It was a pleasure to offer this session to the practitioners at Osana, a multidisciplinary, evidence-based and preventative medical centre.

04.01.2022 We cannot ignore the extra stress that final year exams place on our children as the HSC trial exams are now in progress. We also cannot ignore solid research about the benefits of regular relaxation for school students. Research identifies that concentration, working memory, attention, emotional regulation and self-esteem can increase when students practice simple relaxation skills regularly. Studies show that classroom climate and academic performances improve when teachers integrate relaxation techniques into the school day. There is also evidence that adolescent anxiety decreases with relaxation. Learning relaxation techniques can make a real difference. New student relaxation classes are now available commencing in September. Register here https://artandscienceofrelaxation.com/relaxation.html
