25.01.2022 "Kamil, I am very strong, but I am not so strong that you can just sit there in your harness taking photos of my mesmerising blue eyes while I am hanging here on a two-finger pocket. Fucking move on!" by @kamil_sustiak

23.01.2022 Surfed Broken Head in the morning. Tons of surfers and a sweep that kept you paddling non stop. Caught a few nice ones but eventually succumbed to the incessant current heading north. Strolling toward the car park I overheard one old fella say to his mate, Did you see that shark? It was phookin huge. Then a guy in car park asked if we saw it. Said it was indeed rather large. Surfed Evans Head in the arvo. Lovely - pods of dolphins all around us, warm water, a few friends to banter with. Then the Gannets started bombing the bait fish bonanza beneath us and I began to feel like a piece of food myself. The water took on a darker hue. Dolphin fins looked questionable. Suddenly I felt quite tired; thought a rest on the beach a better idea, perhaps with some warm socks and a cold beer. Couldnt paddle in fast enough!!

23.01.2022 Angels Landing at sunset in Zion National Park. At least that is how Kamil Sustiak titled this gobsmacking pic. I have spent some hours looking for them and I just can’t see them. My daughters are very interested in seeing angels and I feel like I’m failing their curiosity. ... Please help. View of the Zion National Park from Angels Landing during sunset. by @kamil_sustiak

22.01.2022 Grind some of this up and run through a rolled fiddy. My kind of Class A! The Grampians, Victoria by @kamil_sustiak

21.01.2022 Some people spend their whole sporting life brushing ice with a broom in an endeavour to change the direction of a flat bowling ball. Dont get it, myself. But then only another rock climber would understand how seeing a piece of orange rock could make you change your weekend plans. Paul Thompson, Project, Banks Gully Amphitheater, Mount Banks, Blue Mountains... by @kamil_sustiak

21.01.2022 Love Australia. Love its animals!

21.01.2022 Crackin time of the year for a run on Stiletto. If, like me, you fall off the last pitch late in the day you can always opt for dining on The Ledge. Excellent valley views, no annoying nearby tables, and the Woolies dirty bird will taste like twice-cooked roast duck. A ten buck bottle of vino will be the best youve ever had. If you find yourself in such a position Ill even provide the delivery service! Get on it!!! ... by Kamil Sustiak Adventure Photography Climbing with Chris Coppard & Kamil Sustiak See more

18.01.2022 Nothing like red sandstone with fresh chalk on it. What a good looking line. by @kamil_sustiak

18.01.2022 Another classic at The Stone. Sent it in my dreams a few weeks back. Took a couple of nights to piece it all together, but with hard work comes rewards. Was really really good and I wasnt even pumped at the chain. Who knew that was even possible? Pretty sure its the right grade though. Top quality stuff by our Ninja hero, Grand Master Tom-Oh. 17.01.2022 Turns out that I have a hole in my retina. The blue bomber (surfboard) strikes again. Pity it was me this time! Booked in for laser surgery tomorrow. Boring. I was going bolting, which makes it doubly shit.

16.01.2022 "As an avid obstacle course racer and trail runner, my body is constantly being challenged with new movements and needs to function correctly or long-term injuries may occur. On one occasion, I left my preparation late with only one month until the prestigious UTA 50km event held in the Blue Mountains annually. On my first training run, my knee played up at 5km and could not walk for the next 2 days due to injury. I considered withdrawing from the event as now running such a distance seemed impossible. After seeing Julian for rehab and weekly check-ups/exercises I was able to enter the event with confidence and complete the entire 50km with no knee issues. I have Julians knowledge/encouragement to thank for getting me through such an ordeal. Sam Traish, Martial artist, Obstacle course racer & trail runner.

16.01.2022 Although no one wants a finger injury, virtually every climber will get one (or many) if they climb for more than a year. One of the more tricky to diagnose is lumbrical tear, often caused by splitting fingers in terms of length and load, for instance if you pull on a two finger pocket and curl the little finger into your palm. Here is a quick video of one of my patients who presented recently with a classic case of a fourth lumbrical tear.

16.01.2022 Apparently I am meant to post personal photos for continued engagement on my inta-twit-agram account. Here is a picture of my fruit bowl (and honey). I called it "Still life with fruit and cane op-shop basket". I will do a t shirt run if there is enough demand

15.01.2022 This is what happens when you dont have a TV (ever) - after dinner Shithead. In the past, we called it El Presidente, i.e. when the kids were too young to appreciate gratuitous cussing. Gracie (left) and Luca dualling for the namesake title. Lets just say I won and wifey came second!

15.01.2022 You know, its not just about being a really awesome rock climber. Check out those belaying skills. Tight. Efficient. Engaged. No way is Tom going to hit the ground. Certainly not from pitch four anyway! When I started watching this video on my phone the first thing I noticed were the bird noises. Ahhh, lovely, that sounds like Perrys, I thought. Then I looked more closely- that looks like Perrys. Those guys have a mini portaledge just like mine. Well played, fellas. Wow, t...hat belayer has a beanie just like mine. And that climber guy is pretty damn smooth. Isnt that the Scurvy dyno? Hang on a second... You should have seen how hard Tom was trying on the next pitch! Just a bouldery 27, but somehow all the other pitches had finally caught up. Much growling, the odd whimper, and finally a victory sigh! by Kamil Sustiak Adventure Photography posted by Awesome Woodys

14.01.2022 Found this wee fella while bouldering the other day. Was sure Id found a new species! Googled gecko with leaf-like rail. Google disappointedly responded with leaf-tail gecko. Apparently someone else discovered it (and millions more around the Sydney area) some time back. Clearly I havent been looking under enough rocks.

13.01.2022 Some would say paragliding is fairly safe. Probably is. Unless you’re Crazy Chris doing crazy shit. Then maybe it’s more questionable. I’ve gone tandem a bunch of times with my mate Ado. The tandem wing is like a family car. Chris, on the other hand, drives a Ferrari, mostly somewhere close to the red line!... Paragliding at Mount Blackheath @kamil_sustiak

12.01.2022 More backyard bouldering. Really, knew? Gracie, my daughter, found this one. Corinne is the one squeezing. Not particularly steep, but with a dearth of footholds bigger than half a matchstick it certainly makes your arse feel big!

12.01.2022 My favourite place in the world to boulder. And yes, I have been to Font. I spent a lot of time at Flock Hill in the early 2000s, cherry-picking our way around the mass of larva-like formations. Sunset Arete, The Flutes, and Mullet Arete were all done on our first trip there. My giddy god, it was pigs in shit for weeks on end.... 12.01.2022 Visited Point Perp for the first time in 25 years a week ago. Watched whales swim past and seals play in the water beneath us. Luca, my daughter who had been getting a little scared of heights recently, was promptly lowered toward the crashing ocean. Presto! Problem solved!

12.01.2022 Ahhh, that brief period every ten years or so when all your quickdraws are matching. Enjoy it. Take photos. In a month's time it will be back to the normal shemozzle. @kamil_sustiak

11.01.2022 CRAMP VOODOO Google knows you have cramps. If Google knows, everyone who wants to sell you a little-known remedy will also know. Silly ads will appear on your preferred weather-forecast page. Be skeptical. Mineral supplements are a shot in the dark, but stranger things have happened in the dark, so that is probably a good place to start if you suffer regular cramps. Blood tests would be a good precursor. You do not have to drink two liters of water a day to ward off cramps;... that is not only a myth, it is a thoroughly debunked one. In fact, drinking too much water might deplete your precious bodily minerals, actually leading to cramps. If, on the other hand, you have been sweating a lot, then its a good idea to drink accordingly. Whether it is the loss of fluid volume in the body or the loss of sodium through the skin that contributes to the incidence of cramps is up for debate. Certainly excessive sweating, and sodium loss in particular, seem more important than other factors in the cramping command chain. Magnesium is the new cure, if you believe the marketing hoopla of recent years. Cough-cough-bullshit. Perhaps it is for some, but it is not the elixir of muscle health that you are being led to believe. Read my Rock & Ice Magazine article on cramps here.... http://drjuliansaunders.com/ask-dr-j-cruses-cramps/

07.01.2022 Dad and Luca day. Tip top walk into Burning Palms beach followed by Lucas favourite haunt in Sydney for dinner, Spice Alley.

05.01.2022 My mate Simon and I walked up to check this crag out in the early 90s. Not sure why but we thought walking up in bare feet was somehow cool, like a pair of pale skin locals. The prickly shit in our feet reminded of our folly as it oozed out over the coming weeks. On the way up we danced on a tiger snake because, in our hyperactive escape we just ran into other repeatedly; somehow didnt get bitten. We didnt see much to write home about in terms of the cliff. 05.01.2022 Does anyone else think this looks like a superhero action doll that has been placed on a cliff? You know...just hung there in an odd, overly casual position. Maybe thats not Rage (30) at all and its just a little piece of orange rock at the bottom of the cliff. You know, photos are no longer prima facie evidence ... 05.01.2022 At the junction of the Wolomi and the Colo rivers on the fourth day. Carried the raft for three days before there was enough water to use it. Worth it though just to take the pack off for a day! Next installment is the South Coast tracking Tasmania in January.

04.01.2022 Theres something quite lovely about waking to snow in the orchard Perhaps big pharma could look at why crystallised water is more mood improving than liquid water. Put that in a pill and youve definitely got something!

03.01.2022 Spent a few days in Alpine National Part, Victoria, last week with my brother, Tristan, and my father. Fun times. BIG country! Here Tristan continues his life long quest for yowies and panthers. Alas, he saw nuthin. Again.

03.01.2022 If I had a dollar for every time someone starts a consultation with my elbow hurts date night would be paid for every time. The human elbow is a complex piece of engineering that allows elbow flexion and forearm rotation. Many of the forearm muscles control multiple joints. Its no wonder that elbow troubles rare common among climbers Heres a few ways to look after your elbows:... 1. Avoid the ups-and-downs of training intensity. As much as you can keep it consistent and well structured such that you are not asking more from your elbows than they are capable of. 2. If youre prone to elbow tendonosis, try doing a few sets of eccentric exercises a couple of times a week. You can read more about these in the Dodgy Elbows Revisited article archived on my web site. 3. Any type of repetitive, high-stress finger training is potentially problematic. Campus boards, Bachar ladders and fingerboards can devour your elbows like a diesel wood-chipper gone feral. Even changing your training style, say from long bouldering to the fingery Moon Board has a vast capacity to cause trouble. 4. Engineers, web designers, architects, and other avid mouse users, beware. Continually lifting the mouse to reposition it on the table surface is a major catalyst of lateral epicondylosis. If you cant keep the mouse attached to the desk surface sliding it rather than lifting ittry using a stylus and pen setup like a Wacom. Having an ergonomic mouse for each hand is a good way of spreading the load. You can feed my Rock & Icer Magazine "Ask Dr. J" article by clicking the link in the bio by @medicadetion

03.01.2022 What defines a good climber is the ability to appear relaxed even when not. Here Luke Hansen, high on the airy second pitch of Bareback (25), amply demonstrates his mental ingenuity by reverse engineering a smile and, ergo, is able to assuage an arse clenched so tight it would make his pet tapeworm, Peekaboo, don a hard hat and a spinal brace.
