20.01.2022 Last day of the conference and onto a controversial topic, breast implant illness. This complex topic is currently being researched by several groups in the USA, the largest group is looking at the scientific basis of the symptoms. At present, there are no tests, or ability to diagnose this as an actual diagnosis. The current theory is that it is chronic inflammation around the capsule of the implant that leads to capsular contraction and pain. There is also no evidence that en bloc resection is ‘better’ than implant removal and a total capsulectomy. Excited to be a part of a new research team into this complex and controversial study!!
