15.01.2022 Harness your hormones and get your cycle to work for you! Tracking your period is a great way to get in control of your menstrual cycle and predict the days how you'll be feeling each day. Then follows spring, where new energy starts and hormones peak into summer which is your ovulation. You'll then find your mood will begin to drop just before y...our period which is Autumn. Being aware of your periods season and identify where you're currently at, will help you gain your power back with your period. Now that summer is in the air, it's time to harness the power of our hormones!

This may be a same sex couple or a single women who is ready to start a family or a couple with severe male factor infertility. Donor sperm empowers these groups to start a family when they want. Donor sperm is readily acce...ssible though our donor bank with no waiting time. You are not along in this journey, myself and my team at Melbourne IVF have always been at the forefront to advocate for greater access to fertility treatment. Our history extend back to year 2000 when our team at MIVF (Prof McBain AO) fought in federal court for the right of single women and same sex couples.

08.01.2022 Lifelong learning, reading, evaluating and changing is what we sign up for in medicine. Recently I was talking to few of my GP colleagues, explaining Mackenzies mission. This is also known as the national genomic project which the federal government started in 2018 with $50 million funds to raise awareness and uptake of genetic screening. Most of us who have kids understand how hard it is to bring up a child who is labeled normal. We can only imagine the tsunami of emotions... a couple would feel when their child is diagnosed with a chronic disabling or lethal condition. What if this could have been preventable and testing available. This is the holy grail of medicine and its power today can save many troubled births in Australia and prevent a condition from happening. Now we do have the opportunity through genetic screening. I had a text from a GP friend saying she is changing her practice after my presentation. Mission accomplished. One step at a time

07.01.2022 Couples starting fertility treatment are often concerned about the stress this may place on their relationship. The uncertainty about having children may force them to confront the question of how much they do value the other share aspects of their lives. It can prove helpful in these circumstances to return to the original reasons why the relationship started. For some couples fertility treatment grows them closer and tighter than ever before. It is good to be aware of the expected stresses that can be placed on a relationship and be prepared to manage it with your partner.

06.01.2022 Counselling is an integral part of infertility treatment and has a variety of functions. Counselling can involve emotional support to working through treatment implications. Often in a persons fertility journey they ask the questions: when should I see a counsellor? The answer will vary - but may be worth it. Its a great strategy for managing stressful times. ... 03.01.2022 Aicardi- Goutieres syndrome is a rare recessive condition that happens in in 160 000 births, that is two affected babies born in a year in Australia. The Barttlet family witnessed this in their first born son and discovered both parents are carriers for the condition. They are extremely fortunate to survive challenges thrown at them and complete their family through IVF and embryo testing. The great majority of recessive conditions carry no family history and parents to be ar...e healthy and well. Genetic recombination happen at conception as part of evolutionary process and that makes us who we are, unique and different from others. Some of these genetic changes can result in faulty genes and pairing up with someone who carry exactly the same affected gene gives 1 in 4 chance of passing both faulty genes to a child who then express the condition. Makenzies Mission is the national genomic project being rolled out by federal government to raise awareness of recessive and x linked conditions to give parents to be an opportunity to make informed decisions about their reproductive options should they be identified as high risk of an affected child. Genetic screening is free for the couples who enter the study and will be tested for 1300 genes and 750 recessive conditions. Recruitment has stated now and eligible couples will get their first IVF cycle free. Please all us on 94173755 to find out more.
