12.01.2022 Gynaecomastia and male breast reduction surgery Gynaecomastia is the presence of excess breast tissue in males Surgery for gynaecomastia aims to remove the excess breast tissue... As part of the pre-operative evaluation, a full hormonal screen will be employed to ensure there are no underlying causes. An ultrasound scan will also be performed to clearly delineate and establish the size of the glandular tissue as well to ensure there is no suspicious mass within the breast tissue. Surgery usually consists of a glandular excision and sometimes additional liposuction. Surgery is performed under general anaesthetic with a one night stay in hospital. Surgical drains are usually placed and are left in place for a period of approximately 24-48 hours. Dr Lee Ong is experienced in the management and surgery of gynaecomastia.
