25.01.2022 Dupuytrens surgery - before, during and after surgery photos. Dupuytrens contracture is one of the most common hand conditions. When it is advanced, it causes flexion contractures (bent fingers that can’t be straightened). Surgery requires meticulous attention to detail and the anatomy of the hand in order to restore movement and protect the nerves and blood vessels and tendons. This patient had a dupuytrens band involving the finger which was limiting his function. He also... was unable to get his hand flat to do push-ups or yoga. Surgery carefully removed the diseased tissue and repositioned the skin as z-plasties. Post op he is seen at 6 weeks with full flexion and extension. He is super happy that he can now get his hand flat again and do all of his normal activities that he was having trouble with before the surgery, and now he is back in the gym doing his push-ups and yoga. Surgery takes 1-2 hours and most patients require a period of hand therapy for 4-6 weeks post op. *Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

16.01.2022 A message from @plasticsocietyaustralia With the closure of international borders we would also anticipate an increase in cases with patients who might otherwise have travelled overseas for surgery seeking to do so locally. Typically these are for more invasive procedures and most commonly for breast augmentation surgery. Cosmetic tourism has been a controversial issue with many patients experiencing complications from surgery conducted overseas and requiring revision surgery in Australia. Ironically, the advent of border closures may ultimately benefit these patients, says Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons president, Dr Dan Kennedy.

15.01.2022 For a while I considered doing neurosurgery as a career. Who knows, maybe I woulda worked with these guys!?

15.01.2022 Before and after photos breast reduction with short infamammary scars. Note absence of visible scar beneath the breast at the side. Also note position of nipple/areola in relation to the red skin lesions and see how much elevation has taken place. This lovely patient of mine has a new lease on life. Back pain gone. Neck and shoulder pain gone. Posture better (look at the shoulders). Able to find clothes that fit!! And she’s delighted with how they look. Breast reduction surgery is a life changer!

15.01.2022 No point letting 2020 get in the way of feeling a little bit christmassy.

06.01.2022 Very lucky that when my daughter was making her own scrub hats that she made one for me too

06.01.2022 I spend a lot of time in the operating theatre, but almost as much time talking to and listening to patients in my office. This is time well spent. It’s important that surgeon and patient are both on the same page when it comes to surgery. I try to go the extra mile so that my patients are as fully informed as they can be, as well as comfortable that they have picked the right person to put their trust in

05.01.2022 Before and after upper eyelid lift (upper blepharoplasty) This is a great procedure to help those who have excess skin on their eyelids. This lady was even starting to get obstruction of her vision from the skin hanging over her eyelids. The procedure is usually done as a day case. Scars are hidden in the crease of the upper eyelid and sutures are removed after 1 week. If done carefully this procedure will freshen and enhance the appearance of the eyes without looking like an operation has taken place. If vision is being obstructed then the procedure can be partially claimed on health insurance. Please contact us for details. *Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.

05.01.2022 Enjoying freedom of movement following Dupuytrens surgery - see earlier post for before, during and after surgery photos. Dupuytrens contracture is one of the most common hand conditions. When it is advanced, it causes flexion contractures limiting movement and function. *Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
