16.01.2022 Feeling Crabby When I was about 11 or 12 years old, a friend I met while camping at Mallacoota, decided to swim to a sand island within the inlet. Swimming that was interspersed with weightless hopping across the sandbars. I knew there were sand crabs in the inlet and I was aware of their dangerous looking pinchers. Part way across, I got to experience the unexpected thrill and alarm of the unseen, yet vividly imagined pincer that took hold of my right little toe. The real...isation of the actualisation of my fear and the adventure of having had the experience and that I would indeed live to tell the tale. A sensation clustered with a sense of accomplishment and rebellion. A conquering of sorts. Thus births today’s offering as a 40x50cm acrylic on canvas and a flood of fond childhood memories and emotions. 14.01.2022 Darn! It’s hard to capture what you actually see. Anyway, this outback abstract Gorgeous was inspired by @benquilty after I saw an exhibition of his work a year or so ago at the @queenslandartgallery. He had created some fantastic big pieces by pressing canvases together after slathering paint on one of them first. It was an incredible set of works and had great meaning to them as well. My first attempt at this involved a more timid layered approach to the pressing togethe...r but I really enjoyed it. I also started with MUCH smaller canvases. Acrylic with pallet knife and brush.
