03.01.2022 Comment below if you'd like to know more about this: During an aid trip to the Philippines following a destructive earthquake in Mindanou, we saw a total of well over 2000 patients. Many of these were for minor issues but a lot were very grateful for the tiny operations that I was able to do there. Because of the political situation in the area we were in, the authorities were concerned about our personal safety and sent a platoon of soldiers with us everywhere. Despite thei...r overbearing stature, these were very pleasant folks. My most abiding memory is seeing a big soldier washing up the medical and dental instruments with his M16 rifle strapped over his back and a pistol and spare ammunition around his belt. We were a few hundred kilometres from the Mindanou epicentre of the quake and felt it. Whilst we would have been happy to travel there the authorities didn't want us to go there as the rebels were fairly prominent and safety would have been an issue. See more
