23.01.2022 Toothfairy life . . Is there such thing as over brushing? ... Toothbrush Abrasion can be cause by abrasive toothbrushes and/ or abrasive toothpastes, along with excessive forces... which irritates the gums so much that they begin to recede (shrink). Once the gums have receded below the edge of the enamel, the cementum (neck of the tooth) becomes exposed. Because the cementum is softer, it begins to be brushed away more rapidly, leading to that "dip" appearance where the roots begin to cup inwards! When more and more tooth structure begins to be brushed away, the teeth can become more sensitive. The dip in the teeth may also cause more plaque to accumulate leading to decay. . . Unfortunately, when tooth structure wears away, it doesn't grow back. Here, we have used tooth coloured filling material, to repair the loss of tooth structure . . 19.01.2022 Toothfairy life . . . Gaps be gone! ... Invisalign treatment is a great way to straighten your teeth if you don't like the sound of brackets and wires. Our lovely patient had traditional orthodontics over 20 years ago but retainers (which are designed to help hold teeth after treatment) were lost and teeth slowly started moving over time We were able to close all the gaps and re-align the teeth <6months once the gaps were gone and teeth aligned, we placed a new retainer wire at the back of the teeth and also made clear retainers to be worn overnight to maintain the teeth position.
