15.01.2022 Snake Bite Action Plan: Warm weather means snakes. Just like we prepare for bushfires, pet owners need to prepare for snakebite by knowing the symptoms of envenomation (snake bite), who to call, what action to take. Common symptoms in pets include weakness, salivation/drooling, trembling, panting, dilated pupils, vomiting/diarrhoea, paralysis, and collapse. If you have any reason to suspect your dog or cat has been bitten, try to confine them and keep them calm, and contact y...our nearest vet. Pets treated with antivenom have a very good chance of survival (75%+) if owners seek medical attention quickly. https://www.facebook.com/131493736883595/posts/2205612096138405/

12.01.2022 Video of the view through the microscope looking at a skin sample of an itchy patient - this little parasite is a sarcoptic mange mite (Sarcoptes scabei), which causes intense itching and is contagious to other pets and people. Luckily it's easily treatable with the right medication. Diagnostic testing like this is incredibly important for correct diagnosis and treatment planning. MMVS offers this service on a mobile basis, as well as other types of tests including urinalysis, faecal testing (worm egg counts) and FNA/cytology (identifying lumps/growths/tumours).
