22.01.2022 On behalf of the Brigade, we would like to acknowledge our Captain’s 35 years of service today! Lieutenant Hellyer

22.01.2022 DROMANA HOUSE FIRE At 5:21pm this evening, Dromana Fire Brigade & FRV Stn. 95 were called to a fire in a garage rapidly spreading into the adjoining unit in Monaco Parade. En-route a significant amount of thick black smoke over the centre of the township advised responding crews that the fire was well alight. Dromana Captain and Police arrived on scene within minutes of the call and cordoned off the area to allow fire appliances access.... The resident advised us that all members of the family had evacuated, however they had two pet rabbits in the rear yard directly in the path of the smoke. Dromana CFA and FRV 95 crews worked extremely hard, quickly establishing water and endeavouring to limit the spread of the fire, Lieutenant Hellyer & Firefighter Setter entered the home and rescued the rabbits from the rear yard. CFA & FRV crews worked well together on both an internal and external attacks on the fire to suppress the flames that had entered into the roof space, with the garage roof trusses giving way, the tiled roof collapsed creating further challenges for the firefighters. Access via the front roller door was made hard due to power being isolated. A quick cut saw made access to the garage area and crews continued to fight the fire. Although the home was not saved, all lives were, including the pets. Importantly smoke alarms were actively sounding when crew arrived on scene. The fire was contained to one unit, one of four on the block with none of the others receiving any fire damage. Fire Investigation had not deemed the cause of the fire when crews returned to the fire station to make up. 20.01.2022 Did you change your smoke detector battery when you put your clocks forward? As we do in CFA, we should always Think Safety First! Home Fire Safety is just as important as Bush Fire Safety.... Have you got a plan in the event of fire in your home? Do you regularly discuss that plan with the members of your household? Simple things that can make a significant difference in an emergency, like where you are going to meet when safely outside (letterbox or other pre determined location), Fire Safety starts and ends with you, its your responsibility to ensure you are safe around fire....Captain Desmond
