19.01.2022 If it doesn't look quite right, look at it from a different angle until it looks more like the SS Maheno from above, pretty sweet hey!

17.01.2022 Nothing beats a locals knowledge and our heads are bursting with facts and stories about K'gari. You get so much more with a guided tour, things you wont find out on google thats for sure! Come pick our brains on a guided tour, check out our tour events calendar on our website for more info on our tour types and departure dayz... see you on island time soon we hope!

17.01.2022 The deep green water and golden sand dunes of Lake Wabby make for a startlingly beautiful contrast. Located just north of Eurong in the southern end of K'gari Fraser Island it's a very unique lake. Unlike the majority of Great Sandy National Park lakes, Lake Wabby’s waters come alive with 12 species of fish, the largest being the cat fish. Please don't feed them and trust us when we say they are more scared of you so don't let a few little fishies put you off having a swim. Touching your toes to the silky sand below the water will be difficult in most spots tooat 11.4 metres, Lake Wabby is the deepest lake on K'gari Fraser Island.

17.01.2022 Introducing the Strangler Fig... Aren’t they fascinating... if you have never seen one in the wild we highly recommend it. The Strangler fig is one of the most interesting plants ever, we think. Aptly named for their growing habits. They start as a small seed dropped by an animal, usually a bird and then they throw out their vines which eventually stabilise into a tree and kill the host. They are a parasite, albeit a very pretty one. Strangler figs and other strangler speci...es are common in tropical forests throughout the world and we have lost of them on K’gari Fraser Island but none quite so impressive as this one. Though they are beautiful, they are, well evil when you think about it. We always think about the even more beautiful host tree that once stood tall in its place and ponder about how can all relate to that host tree sometimes... feeling strangled, slowing dying, eventually giving in and letting ourselves be taken by a parasite. The host tree new it was slowly being strangled but it couldn’t do anything about it, we however can take that extra step to save ourselves. So the next time you feel yourself being strangled by one of life’s many parasites, whether it be a job you hate, a friendship that makes you feel awful about yourself or a relationship that is sucking the life out of you, whatever your parasite is, our advice, kill it off before you too start crumbling at your roots. #bethechange #bethebestyou #educateyourself #liveyourbestlife

14.01.2022 Hey there champions, What a wonderful 3 days we shared on the beautiful island paradise K'gari. We dodged all the stormy weather and got to see all the amazing places she has to offer. It was a pleasure to show you my backyard and I hope you love all the pics I captured. Cheers from Troy, Mark and the whole Drop Bear family... https://www.flickr.com/gp/dropbearadventures/J941EP

10.01.2022 BUSH FIRES ON K’GARI The bush we usually find so much peace in is burning. The island we usually spend our day’s exploring with beautiful strangers who often become friends is smouldering. Our hearts that are usually filled with so much love and joy when we think of K’gari is breaking. Our island home K’gari is burning. We have lost more than 80’000hectares of precious bush so far and she continues to burn. It’s beyond devastating, but more devastating than it is for us and... our business we are far more concerned about the devastation that this will cause to the island flora and fauna. We have the deepest gratitude for the amazing firefighters that are out there now doing their best to contain this beast and only wish we could join them, we feel so helpless. Please spare a thought for K’gari guys and pray for rain

10.01.2022 It's the start of NAIDOC week, a week of celebration, education and commiseration. Recognised as one of the most important movements that supports true reconciliation between our peoples here in Australia. NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Aborigina...l and Torres Strait Islander Australians. On Australia Day 1938, protestors marched through the streets of Sydney in an attempt to raise awareness of the status and treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. This protest was one of the first major civil rights gatherings in the world and it became known as the Day of Mourning. Between 1940 and 1955 the Day of Mourning was held annually on the Sunday before Australia Day and was commonly known as Aborigines Day. In 1955 it was decided that Aborigines Day should include a celebration of Aboriginal culture, heritage and achievement. This is now celebrated as NAIDOC Week, which highlights the achievements of Indigenous people all over Australia. For us NAIDOC week is a time to reflect and to further educate ourselves about the history of our nation. We hope you will join us in seeking teachings from our Indigenous communities and enjoy some of what we will share with you this week. See more

03.01.2022 K'gari (Fraser Island), 1882. The population of the Butchulla people is in sharp decline following a run of brutal massacres. German scientist Louis Müller lives on the island with his daughter Hilda, both grieving the loss of Hilda’s mother who died and is buried on the island. Louis has offered to sail three Butchulla people Bonny, Jurano and Dorondera to Europe to perform to huge crowds. The proud and headstrong Bonny agrees, hoping to bring his peop...le’s plight to the Queen of England, sure that if she only knew what was happening in her name she would stop it. Paris Savages is a beautiful, almost lyrical read that captures both the spirit of the Butchullla characters and the horror they endured. The characters reel you in and if you have ever been to K'gari with us, you will feel the take more than most. Through alternating chapters, the story is narrated by Hilda, her diary, and also a ghost storyteller, offering perspective. Intelligence, empathy and brutal honesty permeates this exquisitely written book. This is a story of love, bravery, culture, and the fight against injustice. Paris Savages brings a little-known part of history to life and we absolutely loved reading it. Symbolic to #NAIDOC Week where we remember and celebrate Indigenous culture here is Australia, we wanted to share this beautiful book and hope that you enjoy reading it as much as we did. See more
