20.01.2022 Final rehearsal before Sunday's concert. Tecoma Uniting Church 2pm December 8

19.01.2022 Dear friends. With the restrictions due to COVID being extended it will take even longer for us to be able to gather together to enjoy music. We will keep you informed as to when rehearsals and concerts can begin, as and when the situation improves. In the meantime, look after yourselves and each other. And remember to keep practising your scales! https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=721465138636310

17.01.2022 DRO enjoyed the most wonderful 35th Birthday event it is possible to have. From the sell-out audience, the stunning soloists, the audience participation to the delicious birthday cake, yesterday our concert at the Mooroolabark Community Centre Culture Tracks had it all. And then there was the music! Natalya Vagner's original and exciting "Flight of the Eagle" began the proceedings then we travelled to Paris (Offenbach), to Germany (Weber) then onto Spain to experience the glorious highlights of Bizet's "Carmen". Thank you to everyone who came and shared the day with us. We have definitely made lots of new friends. Special thank-you Marie who made the cake and to the lovely Yarra Ranges staff who looked after us so well. Our next concert is on Sunday 8 December 2pm at Tecoma Uniting Church.

15.01.2022 In the light of the current situation with the COVID-19 DRO is suspending all it's activities for a period of 4 weeks, with a review to be taken after that. This means no rehearsals and the June 6 concert may be postponed. We will keep everyone informed as events unfold. In the meantime, stay well, look after yourselves and each other and, if possible, members please keep practising!

11.01.2022 ‘The Eagle Flight’ or ‘Bunjil’ is an original work by composer Natalya Vasgner written for the Dandenong Ranges Orchestra, which will be performed in the Yarra ...Ranges at the Mooroolbark Community Centre on Sunday October 20. This is a special project funded by the Victorian Community Orchestra Project Inc., which brings together established composers with community orchestras to create original repertoires specific to that community. ‘The Eagle Flight’ is inspired by a creation story told by Carolyn Briggs, the elder of Boonwurrung people of Kulin Nation. We hope you will join us for the Sunday afternoon performance to witness this incredible new piece of storytelling. Tickets - http://bit.ly/Dandenong-Ranges-Orchestra

The orchestra has come a long way since these days but it is wonderful to remember John doing what he so loved. John sadly passed away in 2016. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOVnfazVIE4

06.01.2022 Here is another trip down memory lane, this time for DRO conductor Alexander Vengerovski. Alex played percussion with the Moscow State Symphony Orchestra for 20 years and 1998 was recognized with the "Honoured Artist of Russia" award, the first time this honour was granted to a Percussionist. This clip is from a concert played at the Munich Philharmonic Hall at the Piano Summer Festival in 1990. The piece is by Shostakovich called "Dance of the Coachmen" from ballet "The Bolt". Alex plays the glockenspeil on the far right, back row. Pavel Kogan - conductor https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FXPkmNc6gc
