19.01.2022 Thank you to The Glennie School for their continued support. Many of the girls at the school have a strong connection to the land and here is a letter from a student explaining why they chose to support Drought Angels. To whom this may concern, Our Year 9 Food Technologies class at The Glennie School, Toowoomba, has performed a biscuit fundraising drive with our own little Glennie community. The reason why we have decided to give some of our earnings to this foundation was ...that for some of us girls the drought really affects us and our families dramatically and we would really like to give back to the beautiful people behind the Drought Angels. This is Glennie’s way of saying thank you for your support in these times. Your foundation really means a lot to us and we hope our small donation can help in some way, shape or form. 12.01.2022 DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO SKIP CHRISTMAS? As the eldest child and only son I hear a lot Charlie, one day all of this will be yours. I look around now and wonder what all of this is anymore. After the length of the drought and then the fires on top of that, which took our animals, fences and any hope of income, we’re in a bad way. It’s really hard to see my parents so hurt everyday but especially when this is another year we don’t have a real Christmas. ... I can’t remember what year we stopped putting the tree up! I can’t remember what the excitement felt like on Christmas morning. You know, the times when you were so excited to run out to the tree, wondering what you were unwrapping and hoping it was something from your Christmas wish list. I think after the first really bad drought year Mum and Dad explained that with the drought like it was, all our money was going into feeding the animals and with no other income we knew that meant Christmas was going to be hard. We were sad and so confused, why did this happen, but we thought surely the drought wouldn’t stick around that long. I’m pretty sure that first chat was 5 years ago now, around when I was 10. This year after watching the fires rip through our farm and losing all but the house, I knew this would be the worst year yet. Mum and Dad are tired and stressed most of the time and we all just keep to ourselves. There is nothing I wish for more than a time where I don’t see sadness and disappointment on my parents faces. I still hope that one day soon we will have our real Christmas again, where we can put up the tree, exchange gifts and enjoy lunch and family time together. ~ Charlie, 15 What can you do to help?
