23.01.2022 A bit of NOT science fiction. Nothing to do with COVID, either. Landing on Mars: Seven Minutes of Terror Starting Thursday, there may be an amazing new robotic explorer (https://mars.nasa.gov/mars2020/spacecraft/rover) on Mars. Or there may be a new pile of junk. It all likely depends on things going correctly in the minutes after the Mars 2020 mission arrives at its new home planet and attempts to deploy the Perseverance rover. Arguably the most sophisticated landing yet att...empted on the red planet, consecutive precision events will involve a heat shield, a parachute, several rocket manoeuvres, and the automatic operation of an unusual device called a Sky Crane. Thursday's Seven Minutes of Terror echo the landing of the Curiosity rover on Mars in 2012, as depicted in the featured video (https://youtu.be/Ki_Af_o9Q9s) If successful, the car-sized Perseverance rover will rest on the surface of Mars, soon to begin exploring Jezero Crater to better determine the habitability of this seemingly barren world to life -- past, present, and future. Although multiple media outlets may cover this event, one way to watch these landing events unfold is on the NASA channel live on the web. 21.01.2022 Looking forward to 2021, with our first open mic session on the 15th January Friday....from then every second Friday in the month Feb 12th

20.01.2022 Would you like to help with the Longwarry Food Relief Program? OK - here’s the deal. Food packages are handed out on Fridays from the Longwarry Public Hall at 14 Kennedy Street. People can come in and pick up their own. Clothing and other items are also available. Volunteers (like Lion’s Club, Rotary, the general public and hopefully Drouin Men’s Shed) collect other parcels that are pre-sorted at the Hall and deliver them to the Drouin, Longwarry and Warragul area for those u...nable to come in. If you are a volunteer, then you will be rostered to do deliveries, presently about twice a month on Friday. How do you get on the roster? The first step is to call the organiser, Russell Ford. and make your interest known. His number is 0412 241 110. He will also need your phone number and email address. You can drop in on a Friday at the Hall to meet Russell and see how the operation works if you’re not sure about helping. It’s open from 10am. Russell has told me that the number of people they assist at present is about 600! Yes, you can blink at that! It is likely that this number will increase with the continuation of COVID and the onset of the Christmas season.

20.01.2022 YES - the Shed is is still out there and Shedders are getting together. Even though the Shed building is closed, we still meet online at weekly Zoom meetings. Sadly, only members are sent the invitations. See if you recognise any of our chums in the recent photo.

16.01.2022 A worthy cause. How about signing up?

16.01.2022 A picture is worth a thousand words - yes!

14.01.2022 Here are a few of the items we'll have for sale this weekend at the Drouin Rotary Market. Birdhouses, dunny roll holders, planters, herb gardens, desk organisers and more. Stop by and check them out.

11.01.2022 World peace can only be based on inner peace. If we ask what destroys our inner peace, it’s not weapons and external threats, but our own inner flaws like anger.... When you meet someone you don’t like, or someone says something unpleasant to you, it’s your own response that disturbs your inner peace. This is why love and compassion are important, because they strengthen us which is a source of hope See more

11.01.2022 This is a stirring documentary produced by Youtube. Yes, they do more than show woodworking and cat videos, Russian car crashes and ???. Prepare for a feature-length reality show of the world. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vcsSc2iksC0

09.01.2022 HELP Yesterday we found out something terrible. Our famous popcorn family Sandra & Carl from Calicornia told us that she has been given 4 weeks notice to le...ave Australia. All because of #covid_19 and their inability to renew their visa. A very tearful Sandra has asked us to share their story in the hope that the decision can be over turned. We need to help by writing letters on their behalf to JaJason Wood MPsking him to use the power of section 195a or section 351 to intervene and grant them a visa. Write to Jason Wood Phone: 03 9768 9164 Email: [email protected] If you want to send Carl and Sandra encouragement: Carl and Sandra Wenz [email protected] 0447 673 526 OUR STORY Carl, Sandra, Jeffrey and Pretoria Wenz have been seeking assistance to remain in Australia as permanent residents. We arrived here legally in 2013, 7 years ago, on a student visa with a pathway of working and living here permanently. We have had many hurdles along the way. Every time we go to apply for our next visa, the visa rules have changed and made us ineligible for the next planned visa. We were advised by a migration officer at the immigration offices in Melbourne that a pathway to a permanent visa would be to apply for a protection visa (subclass 866) with the understanding that it will be a financial hardship to live anywhere else. This visa was eventually denied because the protection visa no longer covered financial hardship as a condition to seek protection. Then we appealed to the AAT and we were denied again. Following the AAT ruling, we were advised to appeal to the Federal Circuit Court until it was the correct time to ask for a Ministerial Intervention. We have asked for a Ministerial Intervention to help us remain here in Australia with our family. Our visa pathway has changed so many times and now due to our age we aren’t eligible for any new visas. Per our lawyer’s advice, he felt because Sandra is working as a Nurse in Age Care, the Ministerial Intervention would be our next best way to possibly retroactively give us a new permanent work visa that will lead to residency. This Ministerial Intervention would give the Immigration Department the opportunity to correct our path based on their poor advise. We are a family of good character. We are English speaking. We have become a part of our community and assimilated into Australian society through work, schools, community groups and churches. We haven't committed any crimes and we are not associated with any violent groups. We are not a burden to the economy for we are all educated and working. We have no debt and own our home and vehicles. We are in good health. We have respect for those we meet and compassion for those in need. The Acting Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs, the Hon Alan Tudge MP, has personally considered this request and has decided that it would not be in the public interest to intervene. We have another daughter, Mercedes who is not on this visa. She is married to Joshua Johns, an Australian born citizen. They have a child together, our grandson / nephew, Ford. It pains us to think that we will have to leave Australia, leave them, and wouldn’t be able to return to see them. We want to remain here in Australia, continue with our jobs, continue with our involvement with our Church, and be a part of Mercedes, Joshua and Ford’s life. We are devastated that not only are we expected to leave 02 February 2021 but there will be a three year ban on all four of us preventing us from visiting our daughter and grandson. We don’t want to leave Australia. We consider Australia our home. Mercedes, Joshua and Ford need us here. We don’t want to leave them. Our church family is here. Our work is here. Our home is here.

08.01.2022 Only a couple of days before the Christmas celebrations subside and people start arriving in Walhalla. Our holiday trains commence on Boxing Day (26 December) a...nd we have great news - there are no longer COVID restrictions on numbers so we’ll be running full capacity trains but people MUST wear a mask on the train, only exceptions will be for young children and those with health conditions. We still strongly recommend online prebooking as it is likely to be very busy. Passengers should arrive at Walhalla station at least 30 minutes before departure time. Looking forward to seeing you! https://fareharbor.com//wal/items/97947/calendar/2020/12/

06.01.2022 "LOOK WHAT I'VE FOUND". These are very dangerous words to see on the Internet at the moment. They may appear as a Facebook Messenger post - presumably from one of your Friends. Don't be tempted to open the link - a black screen with a video available behind it. If you do, then you'll probably be asked to re-enter your Facebook username and password in order to see the interesting item from a "Friend". This is the trap. Your Facebook credentials will be stolen and then used to do all sorts of things. Your Facebook page is likely not accessible anymore to you. Delete the post and inform the person who sent it (they most likely DIDN'T) via phone or email what has happened. If you can, take steps to change your Facebook password as a precaution. Here's how. https://www.facebook.com/help/213395615347144

05.01.2022 A great project from our colleagues.

05.01.2022 Our project gets some publicity!

05.01.2022 From 11:59pm tonight, 22 November there are changes to restrictions for mask wearing. Masks are required: Indoors On public transport ... When you can’t keep your distance outdoors Please keep up the healthy habits you have developed this year as we move to COVID Normal. Masks prevent an infected person from projecting their droplets into the air around them, and non-infected people from breathing in the virus. Wearing a mask when you can’t keep your distance helps keep you safe, the people you love safe, and Victoria open. #COVID19Vic

04.01.2022 We sure had a lot of fun on Saturday with our first Sausage Sizzle at the new Bunnings. The upgraded safety regulations were a little annoying, but we got to use an (almost) brand new BBQ and sold heaps of snags.

02.01.2022 A moving story about people looking after others. https://bit.ly/3pmZs7y
