25.01.2022 Vitamin A, How Important is it? Vitamin A is one of the four fat soluble vitamins, which means that any excess that you ingest, your body will store in your liver and fat cells. There are several forms of vitamin A, with the two most important being retinol and beta-carotene. Fortunately, unless you are pregnant or planning on being, there are not many issues with having large amounts of either source of vitamin A in your system.... The recommended daily intake of retinol is as follows: Teenage girls - 700 g (0.7mg or 0.0007g) Teenage boys 900g Women - 700 g Men - 900 g There are currently no recommended daily intake values set for beta-carotene, but caution is advised for smokers, pregnant mothers and people with previous asbestos exposure. The above figures is the reason why there is no one multivitamin for everyone in the family. It is always recommended that the best way to get your daily intake of vitamin A is to consume vitamin A rich foods rather than source it via a tablet. High doses of vitamin A (retinol) during pregnancy can cause birth defects. Most pregnancy multivitamins already contain no vitamin A, but please check your bottles to confirm. Vitamin A is needed for new cell division, fertility, promoting healthy hair, skin, nails and aids in low light vision. This is a very important vitamin, but only in very low quantities to keep you healthy. Unless you are eating fast food daily, you're probably receiving sufficient amounts in your foods. Sources include: Liver (beef, veal, lamb and chicken), Egg yolk, Butter, Carrots, Tomatoes, Rockmelon, Apricots, Mangos, Pumpkin, Peaches, Spinach, Sweet potato (kumara), Basil, chives, parsley and chilli Please share with your family and friends so they can understand vitamins

Looking after your health is vital for us at Point Cook Health Centre, so keeping our doors open will be our priority. Please be understanding with the procedures we have put in place to best ensure everyone's safety. Some new measures have been put in place, which include:... - Only 2 patients are still allowed in the waiting area. Carers and family members are asked to stay home or in their car. - Your temperature will be taken along your arrival. Please present yourself to the reception to have your touch-free check. - Use the hand sanitiser before entering the practitioners' rooms. You may touch your phone or other items while waiting, meaning your hands need to be cleaned again. - While we offer payment in cash, please have the correct change. 17.01.2022 Fat vs Water Soluble Vitamins How does a water soluble vitamin differ to a fat soluble vitamin? Water soluble vitamins require constant replenishing as your body needs them for so many cellular functions. They are absorbed by your blood stream and are circulated through the body. Once it reaches the kidneys, any that has not been use will be excreted. Water soluble vitamins include the B complex (all the B vitamins) and vitamin C.... Whereas fat soluble vitamins are not required daily, so the body will store them in your liver and fat cells for later use. Your body will draw on the stored supplies of 'fat soluble' vitamins as needed. As important as fat soluble vitamins are, they can also be extremely toxic to your body in excess. Fat soluble vitamins include A, D, E and K. So remember that if you are taking multivitamins, look at what is in them. It can be as important as looking at the back of your food labels. You need to make sure that the fat soluble vitamins are in very small quantities. Whereas your water soluble vitamins can be in much higher quantities. It is important that your water soluble vitamins are circulating your system constantly. I have heard many times that multivitamins are 'just expensive urine'. While that is partially true, it is important to have more 'water soluble' vitamins in your body than your body requires. This ensures that every cell in your body receives enough of that vitamin before it is excreted. On the other hand, you want to make sure that you are not having more than your body requires of the 'fat soluble' vitamins, as your body will store them. It may make your body toxic and can make you quite ill. Over the next few weeks I will show you the different vitamins and how much or little of each you should be having to stay healthy. Remember, you could have a healthy diet, but if you are lacking in a vitamin, it could be keeping you sick, lethargic or decrease many other body functions. Please share with your family and friends so they can understand vitamins

10.01.2022 Sports drinks, fruit juice and sodas may be associated with around 180,000 deaths per year. This is what was presented to the American Heart Association’s Epidemiology and Prevention/Nutrition, Physical Activity and Metabolism this year. Of these deaths 133,000 were diabetes related 44,000 cardiovascular and 6,000 cancer related. Is water really that bad that we can only get our water intake by drinks that not only dehydrate us, but may also kill us?... If you're one of the many that 'don't like the taste of water' then try adding some lemon, orange, cucumber or even better try some kiwi fruit (one of the best sources of vitamin C) with your water. http://newsroom.heart.org//180-000-deaths-worldwide-may-be

04.01.2022 With Stage 4 restrictions in place, the way Allied Health Health Practitioners practice has been altered in order to save lives by restricting movements where possible. I am still operating out of my Point Cook practice. Stage 4 restrictions have asked practitioners to restrict our movements and work out of one location. For this reason over the next 6 weeks only Point Cook will be accepting patient appointments for myself. The reasons you are allow to make an appointment a...re: - To prevent a chronic condition worsening. - An acute injury that will otherwise cause you to burden the medical system. No regular appointments will be booked during Stage 4. If you call for an appointment for a sudden onset of pain or injury, you will be book in with the next available Chiropractor. If you are able to wait several days for the Chiropractor or appointment time you would like, then your condition is not severe enough to book in the first place and will be treated as such. Please be understanding and courteous to the clinic staff, we are all in this together and trying to do our part to help our community.

03.01.2022 B Group Vitamins, What's All The Fuss About? We are constantly hearing advertising campaigns talk about energy drinks and tablets having a particular B vitamin in. So what is it about the B vitamins and are they really that important for energy? The B group of vitamins are a group of closely related water soluble vitamins that have important roles of many functions throughout the body. The functions range from adrenal gland support (cortisol), brain and nerve function, cellul...ar/DNA replication and repair, glucose breakdown, muscular support, skin rejuvenation and immune system function. Really, it is needed for almost every system and function of your body. So, if you are lacking in B group vitamins, is there any wonder why you are always feeling tired! The B group are water soluble, which means we need to replenish our intake daily. So if you are feeling tired, depressed, weak or always coming down with a cold, flu or allergies, it may be that you are just not getting sufficient B vitamins in your diet. Just remember that B group vitamins are water soluble, so when looking for a supplement, try getting one that dissolves in water or crush the tablet up before swallowing it. A powder or soluble tablet prevents 'fillers' being used to hold the tablet together or more importantly, preventing our gut breaking down the tablet. The B group vitamins are found in meat, whole grains, fish and nuts, so a healthy variety of food goes a long way to ensure you are getting enough of each of the B vitamins. Please share with your family and friends so they can better understand vitamins
