21.01.2022 MEET THE TEAM- Emelie started here at Dr Paws Vet Clinic as a placement student mid 2019 and joined us as a Junior veterinary nurse September 2020. Emelie enjoys all aspects of nursing but has a particular interest in hospital and treatment nursing, where she can spend the time comforting our sick and injured animals. Outside of work Emelie enjoys hiking, yoga, camping and spending time at the beach with her two dogs, American Staffy Shadow and Dachshund Luna. Emelie just recently passed all her exams and prac assessments for Vet Nursing so she is fully qualified and will be around the clinic to see all your beautiful pets

16.01.2022 Buster is pulling a super sad face at the staff after we put his e-collar on due to his castration surgery. Elizabethan collars prevent your pet from licking, biting or scratching at the sutures/surgical site. It is important to have it on for as long as necessary as even the most well-behaved pets may try and get to the site if given the opportunity. Buster is super handsome and we absolutely loved having him at the clinic. #desexingday #kotaravet

16.01.2022 The beautiful Jasper came in for a visit last night and was just modeling the whole time in the waiting room! Isn't he just so handsome! #dogsofinstagram #kotaravet #newcastlevet

03.01.2022 This is baby Pickle. Pickle is being the perfect model for us to educate all our followers on retained puppy teeth. Retained baby teeth are baby teeth that are still in the mouth after the adult teeth have erupted. The roots of baby teeth normally reabsorb into the body resulting in loose teeth that easily fall out and leave room for adult teeth. Usually Puppy teeth fall out over time in the puppy stage and in Pickles case this most likely will happen but if you notice this... at around de-sexing time (as all adult teeth usually emerge at around 6ish months old) we are more then happy to have a look at them for you. Since retained Puppy teeth can cause problems for a dog later in life, it is best to have them pulled by your veterinarian sooner rather than later, This can be done at de-sexing time as it is the easiest way to be done all together for your fur baby ! :) See more

03.01.2022 Beautiful Ellie has kindly posed for some photos in her consult with one of our amazing vets. Ellie has been receiving a few too many treats over her time in Covid and gained a little bit of Covid weight. Swiping to the last 2 photos, we have a hand feeling chart at our clinic to show clients what a healthy dogs Body Condition Score should be. At an ideal body condition (around BCS 4-5) you will be able to feel your pet’s ribs easily with flat fingers. There should be a ...visible waist behind the rib cage. In fluffy pets, you should be able to feel it or see it when they are wet. Lastly, you should be able to feel the points of the hips easily, with no squishy bulges on any side. With all this said Ellie is a young and healthy dog and sitting at a BCS of 7 she can easily bounce back to her usual self by cutting out those treats and exercising with mum and dad. If you're ever concerned about your little baby give us a call or drop in to weigh your dog on our scales and feel our BCS chart! #pugsofinsta #beautifulpugs #kotaravets See more
