24.01.2022 Statistics show that approximately 30% of people suffer a dental trauma at least once during their lifetime, with about 90% of which occurs before the age of 20. If you, or your child, suffer trauma to the mouth resulting in a broken or displaced tooth you may be able to save the tooth by following the steps below. If a baby, toddler, or young child injures their gums or baby teeth: 1) If bleeding, apply pressure to the area with a piece of cold, wet gauze and ask them to bit...e down on the gauze. 2) Offer an ice-block for them to suck to reduce swelling, or hold an ice-pack wrapped in a washcloth to the cheek. 3) Give paracetamol or ibuprofen as needed for pain. 4) Call a dentist. 5) Watch for swelling of the gums, continued pain, a fever, or a change in the color of the tooth. If an adult tooth is chipped or broken: 1) Collect all pieces of the tooth and take it with you to your dentist. 2) Rinse the mouth with warm water. 3) Call a dentist right away to schedule a visit. If an adult tooth is knocked out, immediately visit a dentist or emergency room after following these steps: 1) Find the tooth. 2) Immediately contact a dentist or visit an emergency room if you aren't sure whether it's an adult tooth or not. 3) Hold the tooth by the "chewing" end NOT the root. 4) Place the tooth in a container of milk or your saliva. You also can place it between your lower lip and gum, being careful not to swallow or inhale the tooth. Do NOT store it in tap water. 5) For older kids and teens, try placing the tooth back in the socket without touching the root (only if you are sure it is an adult tooth). Bite down on gauze to help keep it in place. 6) If the tooth is stored in a container (rather than back in the socket), bite down on a gauze pad or handkerchief to relieve bleeding and pain. #dentist #sydneydentist #tareedentist #tareedentalcare #generaldentist #dentistry #cosmeticdentistry #oralhealth #healthcare #dentalcare #trauma #dentaltrauma #firstaid #smile #sydney #taree #australia

20.01.2022 It is important to visit the dentist every 6-months for a routine check-up. Not only does it give the dentist an opportunity to check the health of your teeth and gums, but it also allows them to regularly screen you for signs of oral cancer. Cancers of the lip, oral cavity, and oropharynx (upper part of the throat) grouped together are the sixth most common types of cancer in the world. Successful treatment and survival is heavily reliant upon early detection and diagnosis. ...In their earliest stages, oral cancers are typically painless, and as they most commonly occur in areas of the mouth that are not easily visible, may go unnoticed for some time. Visiting the dentist every 6-months is a good way to ensure that any suspicious area can be detected and treated early. #dentist #sydneydentist #generaldentist #dentistry #oralhealth #healthcare #dentalcare #checkup #dentalcheckup #oralcancer #oralcancerawareness #oralcancerscreening #oralpathology #smile #sydney #australia

19.01.2022 Flossing every day (not this kind of flossing) is just as important for your oral and general health as brushing! You should be flossing once a day, either in the morning or night, or even after lunch, for at least two minutes. Here’s something you may not know - nearly half the surface area of your teeth lies between them. If you’re solely relying on brushing, you’re not cleaning a large portion of your teeth, which in turn can affect how healthy your teeth and gums are. By ...removing the plaque from between your teeth, you’re helping to prevent gum disease, tooth decay, and bad breath. It’s all in the technique! It’s one thing to make flossing a part of your daily routine, quite another to do it properly. Your dentist is the most qualified person to instruct you on flossing correctly but here are some basic tips you can follow: Tip 1: Wind about 45cm of floss around your middle fingers and rest it across your thumbs and index fingers. Tip 2: Use a gentle up-and-down motion that goes down one side of the tooth, just under the little collar of gum and then back up the other side. Tip 3: If you're not sure about the right technique, have a chat to your dentist who can show you all the right flossing moves. If sticking your fingers into your mouth with floss isn’t your idea of fun, then consider using either a less invasive floss threader or floss pick to do the job. #dentist #sydneydentist #tareedentist #generaldentist #cosmeticdentistry #dentistry #oralhealth #healthcare #dentalcare #oralhygiene #oralhygienetips #flossing #floss #dentalfloss #smile #sydney #taree #australia

13.01.2022 credit: GUM A review of Australian healthcare statistics in 2018 found that only 51% of Australian adults brush their teeth twice a day, and that over 90% of adults aged 15+ have experienced tooth decay in an adult tooth. Tooth decay occurs when the naturally occurring bacteria in your mouth are exposed to sugary foods and drinks. The bacteria eat the sugar and excrete an acid onto the tooth, which dissolves the surface of the enamel. The bacteria exist on the tooth in a v...ery thin gel-like substance, which when left undisturbed on the tooth, becomes plaque. One aim of toothbrushing is to mechanically disrupt the gel-like pellicle before the bacteria is able to mature and cause irreversible damage to the tooth. It has been proven that correct toothbrushing technique is essential in removing dental plaque, and when done correctly in conjunction with a fluoride toothpaste and reduced sugar intake, is the most effective way of preventing tooth decay at home. #dentist #sydneydentist #generaldentist #cosmeticdentistry #dentistry #oralhealth #healthcare #dentalcare #toothbrush #brushingteeth #brushing #healthysmile #smile #sydney #australia

13.01.2022 Tooth discolouration is a natural process that can often be very cosmetically frustrating for many patients. Natural tooth discolouration occurs when the inner layer of tooth structure, called dentine, naturally yellows over time. The enamel that covers the teeth gets thinner with age, which allows the yellowing dentine to show through. Teeth can also be discoloured by smoking, coffee, tea, red wine, or other foods and drinks. This patient came in unhappy with the appearance ...of their teeth. After performing same-day in chair whitening, the patient was very happy with the result. #dentist #sydneydentist #generaldentist #cosmeticdentistry #dentistry #oralhealth #healthcare #dentalcare #toothwhitening #whiteningteeth #whitening #smile #sydney #australia Disclaimer: the results achieved in this case were possible due to a unique set of circumstances specific to this patient, and may not be achievable for you.
