21.01.2022 The hands of an 86 yo lady keen for more surgery . Despite years of symptoms in both hands and reluctance to have surgery, I am delighted (but not surprised) to see her at 6 weeks post carpal tunnel surgery on the LEFT... eager to sign up for the RIGHT . As we repeat the consent process outlining the disease, cause, surgery, risks and complications... all I can think of is KISS... keep it simple, stupid!... . KISS is a design principle noted by the US Navy in the 1960s, its origins and variations being linked to great minds such as Leonardo da Vinci, Shakespeare and Albert Einstein. While its use is not infrequent in the teaching and practice of plastic and reconstructive surgery... there are few patients, pathologies or procedures I find it ENTIRELY applicable to... . Carpal tunnel is common. Its cause usually similarly common. While no surgery is ‘simple’ and without risk or complication, there are few that provide such successful outcomes and patient satisfaction by keeping it simple and straightforward . #KISS #carpaltunnel #handsurgery #specialistplasticsurgeon #successfuloutcomes #patientsatisfaction #happypatienthappysurgeon See more

09.01.2022 A magical evening uniting two of my life passions ballet and medicine! . . The expert panel discussed the results of recent research and explored traditional and emerging options for diagnosing joint issues, managing joint pain and protecting joint health .... . 05.01.2022 ‘No, this is flexing’ was my response to a patient’s query as to whether certificates on the wall were just a way of doctors ‘flexing’ . . While I commended her observation and inquisitiveness at the youthful age of 12, I proceeded to inform her of the (minimum 12 year) journey to becoming a specialist surgeon and the importance of displaying education, postgraduate training and accreditation to ensure patients like herself know they are in the most highly trained (a...nd safest) hands . . #specialistplasticsurgeon #plasticsurgery #handsurgery #reconstructivesurgery #microsurgery #plasticsocietyaustralia #aspsau #FRACS #highestqualitypatientcare #patientsafetyfirst See more

04.01.2022 HAIR by Sarah. The latest addition to my collection from a talented patient aka ‘trojanpencil’ They say art (like beauty) is in the eye of the beholder, and thus for me this piece elegantly reflects the origins of my craft... that being HAIRdressing aka ‘the barber-surgeon’ ... Beginning in the Egyptian era, throughout Roman times and in the Middle Ages, barbers were known to perform much more than haircuts and efforts of vanity. They were called on to perform minor surgical operations, pull teeth, and even embalm the dead! Their many duties made them the surgeons of the day #artandscience #eyeofthebeholder #historyofmedicine #barbersurgeon #ilooklikeasurgeon #funfactalmostfriday
