14.01.2022 Today we've launched a new Emergency Telehealth Service for children and young people in WA. The service will provide support for children, young people, famil...ies and carers experiencing an urgent mental health crisis. This includes mental health advice, crisis management, assessments and referrals. Not only will it assist people when they need it, it will also offer support to other professionals in health and community settings. The service can be reached on 1800 048 636, 8am to 2.30am seven days a week.

13.01.2022 Covid-19 The risk of transmission in Australia remains low but the situation is evolving. If you have respiratory tract symptoms and recent overseas travel or are concerned about whether you have caught coronavirus from a close contact, please phone the WA Coronavirus Health Info line: 1800 020 080. ... Please do NOT make an appointment with Kiara Family Practice or Duncraig Medical Centre assuming you will be tested as we are not equipped with enough PPE +/- have room to isolate you from others. This is our current advice. From Tuesday 10 March, there will be three COVID Clinics at Royal Perth, Sir Charles Gairdner and Fiona Stanley Hospitals operating from 8am-8pm seven days a week. The clinics will provide support to people who have symptoms consistent with a potential diagnosis of COVID-19 e.g. fever or respiratory symptoms. People who present with no current symptoms will be provided with relevant information and advice and referred elsewhere or to home, as appropriate. RPH: Ground floor, Ainslie House 48 Murray Street Perth SCGH: C-block, Hospital Ave Nedlands FSH: Allied Health 2 gyms, east end main hospital building, Bedbrook Row General recommendations for personal hygiene, cough etiquette and keeping a distance of at least one metre from people showing symptoms. Perform hand hygiene frequently, particularly after contact with respiratory secretions. - Hand hygiene includes either cleaning hands with soap and water or with an alcohol-based hand rub. Alcohol-based hand rubs are preferred if hands are not visibly soiled; wash hands with soap and water when they are visibly soiled. - Cover your nose and mouth with a flexed elbow or paper tissue when coughing or sneezing and disposing immediately of the tissue and performing hand hygiene - Refrain from touching mouth and nose; - A medical mask is not required if exhibiting no symptoms, as there is no evidence that wearing a mask of any type protects non-sick persons. GPs will be extremely busy in the next few months as we head into winter so now is a good time to book in for your regular preventative health issues e.g. cervical screens, scripts, pathology requests, childhood immunisations, health assessments and chronic disease care plans. I also encourage high risk groups to have the influenza +/- pneumococcal vaccine in early April some useful websites: https://healthywa.wa.gov.au/Articles/A_E/Coronavirus https://www.who.int/emergen/diseases/novel-coronavirus-2019

03.01.2022 COVID-19 and Perth Recent DOH WA stats from yesterday show there are 52 confirmed cases but this data is 24 hour old. There is definitely community spread (confirmed with yesterday having 12 out of 17 cases not being from returned travelers). Due to a severe shortage in testing tests, the DOH are limiting the number of people who they test. ... Medical staff are running out of basic surgical masks and each GP practice only has a few N95 masks / gowns to use. This is a serious virus that luckily doesnt affect our children much at all but in all adults causes respiratory symptoms and can lead to bilateral pneumonia. All across the world we are learning that the people most severely affected are those with chronic diseases and the elderly. Of those requiring ICU treatment, 1/2 were under the age of 65. Now is the time to minimize your risk of being infected. Stay at home as much as possible, work from home, dont socialize in groups, wash your hands, if you get sick stay at home and try and isolate yourself from your family. If your symptoms seem mild, obviously dont go to work and you also may not need to see your GP, just isolate at home until they fully resolve. If your symptoms are moderate and are experiencing difficulties breathing with prolonged fevers then get medical advice. Please tell your employers and schools that a medical certificate for a few days off work or school to recover are not necessary. If youre sick, youre sick. Stay at home. Coming to your GP only for a med certificate is a waste of your time, money and a doctors appointment. It also means exposing other people in the waiting room (and your GP). We also cannot give a medical certificate clearance https://www.nytimes.com//hea/coronavirus-young-people.html

01.01.2022 The WHO has changed its stance on use of face masks as we now know there is spread from people who dont show any symptoms of COVID! They recommend medical staff wear surgical masks and N95 masks (for procedures) but the general public can wear home made masks when out in public I encourage you to see your own mask... https://www.scmp.com//coronavirus-world-health-organisatio

01.01.2022 Spring is here and that means it's the peak time for pollen and grasses to trigger asthma. Asthma is a common condition in children, caused by narrowing of the ...small air passages in the lungs. It's an important time to seek a medical review with your child's GP or specialist to ensure your child has the most effective medication. This will help maintain good asthma and hay fever control and reduce the risks of being affected by springtime thunderstorm events. The RCH has a range of resources to help you stay on top of your child's asthma. Asthma education videos: http://bit.ly/2lvdwAg Kids Health Info Factsheet: http://bit.ly/2jTI65Y
