25.01.2022 Breast crawl A great video to show a baby skin to skin on the mothers chest, using innate senses to find the way to the breast and begin feeding on their own. 25.01.2022 Mask up people!!! And if youre wearing a mask, please wear it properly. Help keep your family and friends, and my family and friends safe. Lets take it seriously, but with a smile #maskup #covid19 #lookaftereachother #dotherightthing

25.01.2022 First, let me be clear - I am a big believer in the need for strict lockdown to get Melbourne safe again. I am also 100% in favor of police enforcing lockdown restrictions to the best of their abilities. I do however question the wisdom of setting up checkpoints right at the front door of the busiest hospital precinct in the city (Royal Womens, Royal Melbourne and Peter Mac), and also right out the front of Freemasons Maternity. It seems to be not well thought through (to be polite!). It made for a very long and frustrating Ward round this morning, but I am just grateful that I wasnt rushing in for a delivery. And spare a thought for anyone hugging and puffing, trying to get to the hospital to give birth. #melbournelockdown #covidcraziness #melbourneobstetrician

24.01.2022 Even Ruby the dog was getting into the lockdown spirit, joining in a game of Pictionary with everyone this evening . Unfortunately the game was abandoned (with me losing!), when I was called in for a delivery. Ahh the joys of being an obstetrician!! #melbourneobstetrician #covidlockdown #busynight #deliveringbabies

22.01.2022 World Breastfeeding Week World Breastfeeding week aims to inform, anchor, engage and galvanize action on breastfeeding and related issues. We fully support and encourage women to breastfeed their babies and will go above and beyond to make it happen. We believe in good preparation, the right information and education around breastfeeding prior to the birth of your baby along with excellent postnatal support, contributes to successful and positive breastfeeding experiences. #breastfeeding #worldbreastfeedingweek #melbourne #obstetrician #education #support

22.01.2022 Repost @positivebirthmovement Positive birth experiences happen in every setting. They happen when Women feel heard... Women feel at the centre of decision making Women feel in control Women have bodily autonomy Women feel respected Where and how the birth happens is much less relevant to whether or not it feels positive. @monetnicolebirths #obstetrician #melbourne #privateobstetrician #specialist #maternalfetalmedicine #multiplepregnancy #twins #triplets #labour #birth #pregnancy #pregnancycare

22.01.2022 Very excited to introduce maternally assisted Caesarean sections to Epworth Freemasons hospital. A wonderful experience to watch Ayesha deliver baby Hugo herself, right up onto her chest for cuddles. Such a lovely way to begin life! Congratulations to Ayesha and Nathan, and thank you for the photos. Im so pleased we were able to make this happen for you! Hopefully this will be the first of many! #maternalassistedcaesarean #drstephencole #melbourneobstetrician #birthstories #epworthfreemasonsmaternity #epworthfreemasonsbaby

22.01.2022 It was lovely to have a visit from baby Thornton (aka @bebethornbek ) today, and Im so glad he brought along his parents his parents Chantel and Srecko. It was a pleasure looking after them, and so wonderful to see the joy that his arrival has created. Lucky that this visit was scheduled for just before lockdown 2.0! #welcomethornton #drchantelthornton #lorbekluxurycars #bebethornbek #melbourneobstetrician #babyboy #newborn @ Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

21.01.2022 These two Mums went to playgroup and discovered they had their bubs on the same day, at the same hospital with the same obstetrician (Me!) 21.01.2022 Such a great image to represent how feeding your baby looks different for everyone! Here at my practice, my midwives are here to support and educate you on your feeding journey! We know that antenatal education can help to really set you up to feed your baby, so organise an appointment with the midwives in your pregnancy (currently via Telehealth) to discuss your wishes around feeding and the midwives can help educate and empower you before you commence your feeding journey!... They are also available to you postpartum (currently via telehealth) to discuss any questions or concerns you have and to help support you! 15.01.2022 Young Theodore made a grand entrance! Caesarean sections are a messy business, but a quick cleanup and he was looking adorable in no time! Congratulations to Lihini and Bryson. Unfortunately Theodore hasnt been in for a visit after his birth, due to COVID-19, but hopefully we will have a chance to meet again soon. #drstephencole #melbourneobstetrician #francesperryhouse #caesareansection

15.01.2022 At the practice we are committed to restricting the spread of COVID-19 and due to a rise in covid cases we are implementing social distancing practices aimed at keeping us all safe... patients, staff and the wider community. Thank you for your understanding of these temporary changes: - We ask that only your partner attends with you and you call on arrival as we will only have one couple in the waiting room at any given time - All patients and their partners please use hand ...sanitizer at the reception desk on arrival - Anyone with a cough / sore throat / fever / respiratory illness should re-schedule their appointment until they are well and should get tested for COVID - We will need to temporarily suspend in-person postnatal home visiting See more

14.01.2022 How cute is baby Eden... her siblings Jasper & Remy definitely think so!

14.01.2022 Postnatal Home Visiting Service Due to the easing of restrictions, we have recommenced our postnatal home visiting service. My practice midwives Charlotte and Amber will contact you after you have birthed and organise to see you at home approximately 1-2 weeks post birth. This visit is an opportunity for the midwives to help and support you, this may include help with any issues with feeding, ensure you and your baby are well, help with any settling techniques, ensure you are... coping at home and provide you with support and reassurance. This visit is a crowd pleaser, as all new parents love to have that support as they adjust to life with a newborn! #obstetrician #melbourne #privateobstetrician #specialist #maternalfetalmedicine #multiplepregnancy #twins #triplets #labour #birth #pregnancy #pregnancycare #midwives #homevisiting #support #postnatalcare

12.01.2022 How incredible are these photos of Mercy’s Maternal Assisted Caesarean! It was such a special birth! Watching a mother birth her own baby at caesarean is a wonderful experience. I’m so happy to have introduced this procedure to @epworthbabies and I’m delighted that more doctors are starting to embrace it. Hopefully more women will have the opportunity to experience it. #obstetrician #melbourneobstetrician #caesareansection #caesareanbirth #maternalassistedcaesarean #birth #epworth #epworthfreemasonsmaternity #epworthfreemasonsbaby

12.01.2022 Lots of understandable anxiety about the impact of COVID-19 on pregnancy. But a recent article about stillbirth rates has caused quite a bit of stress. The attached article puts some context around the issue, and reinforces the importance of minimizing the changes we make to the way we provide care in the COVID era. I believe very strongly that regular safe face to face visits are should continue as much as possible during this time. And please remember - if youre worried, make contact. Dont let COVID change the decisions you make to keep you and your baby safe.

12.01.2022 Say hello to Ruby! The newest addition to our family. Bringing smiles to our faces amidst the chaos of Coronavirus

11.01.2022 Vale Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who passed away today. In an era when we too often choose our role models from (often less than ideal) sports stars and celebrities, this woman should be a true role model for all of us. Born with a sharp intellect, she never took this for granted. She believed in, and lived, the virtues of hard work, discipline, justice and service. Despite rising to be a justice of the US Supreme Court she always spoke and behaved with absolute humility. And she had an inner confidence , strength of character and purpose that belied her diminutive frame. We could all do with more RBG in our lives! #notoriousrbg #valerbg #rbg #riprbg

10.01.2022 It doesnt matter what the weather is doing. A walk on the beach with my soul mate and my little mate is one of lifes great pleasures!

10.01.2022 This little guy looks a bit stunned to be on the outside all of a sudden! But what better way to be brought into the outside world than to be guided out by his own mother - straight in to his first cuddle! this was an absolutely beautiful moment to watch! It reinforced to me how special a maternally-assisted caesarean section can be. #maternalassistedcaesarean #caesarean #caesareansection #birthphoto #babyborn #melbourneobstetrician #epworthbabies #epworthmaternity

10.01.2022 This is our strategy for coping with social distancing! The kids have been hassling us for ages to get a dog. What better time? Really important to find positives to get through this difficult time. What strategies are you using to get through?

08.01.2022 Nice to see this publicized in @theheraldsun today, but more important to get the message out there that this is an option women can explore. 06.01.2022 Today is World Prematurity Day. A day to raise awareness about the issue of prematurity. Despite decades of research and improvements in obstetric care, prematurity remains stubbornly high, affecting approximately 1 in 10 pregnancies. Our neonatal paediatric colleagues have been able to significantly improve outcomes for babies born preterm, but preterm birth remains one of the major causes of childhood death and disability. For all of you touched by prematurity, our thoughts are with you. For those who haven’t, please take a moment to reflect on your good fortune, and consider donating to one of the many charities supporting research into reducing the frequency of prematurity, and improving outcomes for affected families. #prematurebaby #worldprematurityday #nicubabies #pretermbirth #miraclebabies

05.01.2022 Repost @shebirths Love. Awe inspiring, hormone flooded, transformational true love. .... The hour after birth, it is so important for families to stay in this love bubble and bond and connect. Stare at each other, touch, marvel at the miracle of birth and human life. . If it is not possible for you to have this in the first hour then you can make a time to have skin to skin with your baby, gently touch them and get lost in their tiny perfection. The hormones will start to flow for both of you, the neuronal connections will be made and the unbreakable bond that is already there will be reinforced. . .
