25.01.2022 Accidental overdose is preventable, and yet the number of people we lose because of fatal overdose is increasing in Australia. While its possible to overdose on many different drug types, Opioids are the class of drugs that contributes to the most fatal overdoses in Australia. For Overdose Awareness Day, we felt it was important to share more information about Opioids. Maria shares insight on a helpful resource weve created for the community which covers: How Opioids wor...k? What are some of the risks for people to be aware of? What would an overdose look like and how can people respond? What are the side effects of Opioids? How can allied health workers help to manage people with a reliance on Opioids? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDjjff1DgTQ

15.01.2022 International Overdose Awareness Day spreads the message that overdose death is preventable. SENBAZURU is the art of folding 1,000 paper cranes. It is said that if you fold 1,000 paper cranes and make a wish, it will come true. The ATDC is calling on members of the Tasmanian community to help fold Japanese cranes and to share tributes to remember Tasmanians lost to overdose and wish for a community free from the harm of overdose. Drug overdose continues to impact Tasmanians o...f all backgrounds with more than one person lost every week to overdose across Tasmania. The DEN team have been folding cranes and are proud to support the wish for a community free from the harm of overdose.

02.01.2022 September 9th is coming up and the team at DEN are getting ready to wear their red shoes. Why? To raise awareness and recognise International FASD Awareness Day. FASD stands for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, and it is a term used to describe a range of disabilities that result from prenatal alcohol exposure. People who are born with FASD have the condition for life.... The FASD Handbook provides health and alcohol and other drug workers with clear guidelines when working in a prevention framework. The guidelines in this resource emphasise Women Centred Practice which avoids blaming, stigmatisation and judgement of women who have complex needs and may be experiencing complex trauma. Please join us in raising awareness of FASD and get your red shoes ready! #prevention #starttheconversation Resource URL: http://interactive.den.org.au/flipbooks/fasdhandbook/#p=1
